The development of atherosclerosis (AS) is closely associated with endothelial dysfunction and mitochondrial metabolic abnormalities. These alterations are fundamentally characterized by metabolic reprogramming, in which the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle serves as a central regulatory hub. Disruption of the homeostasis of TCA cycle intermediates, including succinate, α -ketoglutarate, and itaconate, contributes to AS progression through multiple mechanisms, such as the modulation of oxidative stress, inflammation, and glucose and lipid metabolic networks. Owing to their multi-target and multi-pathway regulatory properties, bioactive compounds derived from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have demonstrated unique advantages in correcting metabolic dysregulation. Flavonoids, glycosides, and other bioactive constituents of TCM can target key enzymes and metabolites involved in the TCA cycle, thereby restoring aberrant metabolic reprogramming, alleviating endothelial injury induced by oxidative stress, inflammation, and glucose and lipid metabolic disorders, ultimately improving metabolic homeostasis and attenuating the progression of AS.

Objective:To investigate the risk factors and prognosis of postoperative atrial fibrillation(POAF) and delayed-onset POAF(dPOAF).Methods:In a retrospective cohort study involving consecutive patients who underwent cardiac surgery across provincial cardiovascular consortium consisted of 57 hospitals in Jiangsu Province from January 2015 to December 2022, the incidence and implications of dPOAF were examined. dPOAF was defined as being diagnosed within 30 days of discharge. Results:Among 2 788 patients with postoperative new-onset POAF, 154(5.5%)cases had dPOAF, median onset time 21(15, 26)days following surgery. Compared to in-patient diagnosed POAF, dPOAF was associated with increased rates of hypertension(28.6% vs. 9.0%, P<0.001), diabetes(10.4% vs. 3.2%, P<0.001), heart failure(39.6% vs. 19.3%, P<0.001), peripheral vascular disease(13.6% vs. 2.2%, P<0.001), and higher CHA2DS2-VASc score(≥2)(59.8% vs. 43.2%, P<0.001). Female patients were less likely to develop dPOAF( OR=0.44, 95% CI: 0.30-0.63, P<0.001). During follow-up period, there was no significant difference in major adverse cardiovascular events(MACEs)( HR=1.33, 95% CI: 0.82-2.17), overall mortality( HR=0.58, 95% CI: 0.07-4.67), or thromboembolism events( HR=0.57, 95% CI: 0.26-1.25). Conclusion:This study underscores the risk factors and prognosis associated with dPOAF compared to in-hospital POAF. It highlights the imperative for vigilant monitoring and individualized management strategies tailored to patients at risk of dPOAF.

AIM: To investigate whether rs7903146 polymorphisms in transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) gene are associated with susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Chinese Uygur population.METHODS: In this case-control study, 935 cases of T2DM patients were recruited in T2DM group, and 971 healthy examination individuals were selected as normal control. The TCF7L2 gene polymorphism was detected by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrum.RESULTS: Significant differences in the frequencies of CC, CT and TT genotypes and the frequencies of C and T alleles on TCF7L2 rs7903146 were found between T2DM group and control group(P<0.05).As compared with C allele, the patients with T allele had a significantly higher risk of T2DM with OR of 1.190 (95% CI: 1.034~1.371).As compared with CC genotype, the patients with CT genotype had a significantly higher risk of T2DM with OR of 1.374 (95% CI: 1.122~1.683), and the patients with CT+TT genotype had a significantly higher risk of T2DM with OR of 1.307 (95% CI: 1.090~1.567).The levels of fasting plasma glucose, serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen were higher in all participants with CT+TT genotype of rs7903146 than those with CC genotype, which showed a significant difference (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The polymorphisms of rs7903146 in TCF7L2 gene may be associated with T2DM in Uygur population from Xinjiang region. The T allele and CT genotype of rs7903146 are the risk factors for T2DM.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the antimicrobial resistance status and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns of Salmonella Enteritidis (S.Enteritidis) strains in Henan province.
METHODSS. Enteritidis strains were isolated from seven sentinel hospitals from March 2011 to December 2013. According to molecular typing and Salmonella (Kirby-Bauer, K-B) drug susceptibility testing method published by the international PulseNet bacterial infectious disease monitoring network and USA Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), we analyzed drug sensitivity of 8 kinds antibiotics and PFGE molecule characteristics of 120 S. Enteritidis isolates from seven sentinel hospitals.
RESULTSAmong 120 strains of S. Enteritidis, 77 were isolated from male patients, 43 from female patients. A total of 78 strains S. Enteritidis were isolated from young children ranged from 0 to 5 years old (65.0%), including 57 strains isolated from 6 months to 2 years old (47.5%). The isolated time mainly centralized on May to October of the year, 11 strains isolated in March-April (9.2%), 48 were in May-July (40.0%),54 in August-October (45.0%), 7 in other months, with a typical summer seasonal characteristics. The resistance rate of 120 strains S. Enteritidis to ampicillin was 50.0% (n=60); to ceftazidime was 14.2% (n=17), to cefotaxime was 18.3% (n=22); to cefepime was 5.8% (n=7); to nalidixic acid was 61.7% (n=74); to ciprofloxacin was 8.3% (n=10), to norfloxacin was 5.8% (n=7); to gentamicin was 42.5% (n=51); to streptomycin was 21.7% (n=26); to chloramphenicol was 30.0% (n=36); resistance to methicillin benzyl ammonium was 11.7% (n=14), compound sulfamethoxazole resistance rate was 71.7% (n=86); the tetracycline resistant rate was 47.5% (n=57). All 120 strains of S. Enteritidis had different levels of resistance to 8 kinds of antibiotics, all strains were multidrug resistant strains, 28 isolates were resistant to 3-4 kinds of antibiotics (23.3%), 38 isolates were resistant to 5-6 kinds of antibiotics (31.7%), 39 isolates were resistant to 7-8 kinds of antibiotics (32.5%). All 120 strains of S. Enteritidis were divided into 44 molecular patterns by digestion with XbaI and pulsed field gel electrophoresis. each pattern contained 1-35 strains with similarity ranged from 54.3%-100%. EN14 and EN19 were the main PFGE types, including 35 and 29 strains respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe status of drug resistance of clinical isolates of Salmonella in Henan province was rather serious, PFGE patterns showed advantages and partial strain's corresponding resistant spectrum have certain relevance and the same aggregation relationship.
