The prevalence of periodontitis in China is as high as 74.2%, making it the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and severely impacting both oral and overall health. The treatment of periodontitis and periodontal tissue regeneration are global challenges of significant concern. GE Shaohua' s group at School and Hospital of Stomatology, Shandong University has focused on the key scientific issue of "remodeling the periodontal inflammatory microenvironment and optimizing tissue repair and regeneration". They have elucidated the mechanisms underlying the persistence of periodontitis, developed bioactive materials to enhance stem cell regenerative properties, and constructed a series of guided tissue regeneration barrier membranes to promote periodontal tissue repair, leading to the establishment of a comprehensive technology system for the treatment of periodontitis. Specific achievements and progress include: (1) Elucidating the mechanism by which key periodontal pathogens evade antimicrobial autophagy, leading to inflammatory damage; developing intelligent antimicrobial hydrogels and nanosystems, and creating metal-polyphenol network microsphere capsules to reshape the periodontal inflammatory microenvironment; (2) Explaining the mechanisms by which nanomaterial structures and electroactive interfaces regulate stem cell behavior, developing optimized nanostructures and electroactive biomaterials, thereby effectively enhancing the regenerative repair capabilities of stem cells; (3) Creating a series of biphasic heterogeneous barrier membranes, refining guided tissue regeneration and in situ tissue engineering techniques, stimulating the body' s intrinsic repair potential, and synergistically promoting the structural regeneration and functional reconstruction of periodontal tissues. The research outcomes of the group have innovated the fundamental theories of periodontal tissue regeneration, broken through foreign technological barriers and patent blockades, established a cascade repair strategy for periodontal regeneration, and enhanced China' s core competitiveness in the field of periodontal tissue regeneration.

Objective:To analyze the genetic and environmental factors that may contribute to the development of allergic rhinitis (AR) in patients, and provide a scientific basis for formulating intervention measures. Methods:This is a case-control study. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on AR patients who received treatment at The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from June 2017 to March 2019 using a self-designed questionnaire on AR susceptibility factors. Logistic regression analysis of AR susceptibility factors was performed. Results:There were 242 patients in the AR group and 258 patients in the non-AR group (control group). The average age of all patients was (13.16 ± 5.63) years. 56.8% of included patients were male. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that AR onset was associated with neonatal jaundice ( OR = 6.043), respiratory infections within 6 months after birth ( OR = 8.123), diarrhea ( OR = 3.868), eczema ( OR = 4.540), living in urban areas ( OR = 2.477), home decoration after birth ( OR = 3.042), moldy ceilings or walls ( OR = 38.255), home gardening ( OR = 3.752), and exposure to smoking environments ( OR = 2.574). Conclusion:The etiology of AR is complex, and its onset is influenced by various factors such as genetic factors, environmental factors, and related disease factors. It is necessary to strengthen the promotion and education of AR prevention knowledge, pay attention to environmental hygiene, and take personal protection measures.

Objective To assess the diet quality of pregnant women during the second trimester using the dietary inflammatory index ( DII) and to explore the correlation between the DII in second trimester of preg-nancy and preterm delivery. Methods A total of 253 women with singleton pregnancy in 16-20 gestational weeks who had received routine prenatal care between August 2014 and April 2015 at the First Affiliated Hospi-tal of Anhui Medical University were enrolled with cluster random sampling. The included women were asked to recall daily dietary intake in the 3 days prior to the survey. All dietary data were analyzed for energy and nutri-ents intake with a nutritional analysis software, followed by calculation of DII according to previous reports. Based on quartiles of the DII scores, the participants were divided into three groups, namely the anti-inflam-matory group (DII<-5.10), intermediate group (DII -5.10--2.55), and the pro-inflammatory group (DII>-2.55).The participants were followed up until delivery and the pregnancy outcomes were recorded. The relationship between the DII in second trimester of pregnancy and preterm delivery were analyzed. Results DII scores of the 253 pregnant women during the second trimester of pregnancy ranged from -7.913 to 3.872.The risks of preterm birth in the anti-inflammatory diet group, the intermediate group, and the pro-inflammatory diet group were 0, 1.6%, and 6.3%, respectively, with statistically significant differences among the groups (P=0.034).The higher DII scores (pro-inflammatory) were associated with higher inci-dence of preterm birth ( P<0.05 ) .Conclusion DII may be used to assess diet quality of pregnant women during the second trimester and to predict the risk of preterm birth.

Objective To detect the expressions of chemokine CXCL5 and its receptor CXCR2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), investigate their relationships between CXCL5, CXCR2 and clinicopathologic features and probe into the significance in the evaluation of prognosis. Methods Immunohistochemical Envision method was utilized to detect the expressions of CXCL5 and CXCR2 in HCC , to explore their relationship between CXCL5, CXCR2 and clinicopathologic features and MVD in HCC. Results (1) The high expression rates of CXCL5 and CXCR2 protein was 64.7% and 68.6%, respectively, significantly higher than those in adjacent tissues of HCC(17.6%, 15.7%, P < 0.05). The overexpression of CXCL5 protein had correlation with tumor size, differentiation, TNM stage and vascular invasion (P < 0.05) and the overexpression of CXCR2 protein did with tumor grade and vascular invasion (P < 0.05). (2) The value of MVD was higher in HCC than that in the adjacent tissues of HCC (P < 0.05), and had positive correlation with the expressions of CXCL5, and CXCR2 proteins. (3) The higher rates of recurrence and metastasis were in the groups of higher expression of CXCL5 and CXCR2 proteins (P < 0.05). Conclusions The overexpressions of CXCL5 and CXCR2 may promote the occurrence and development of HCC as well as the neovasculation in HCC. Therefore, they can be used as markers to evaluate the prognosis of HCC.
