The disease-syndrome combination animal model in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) andrology serves as an important bridge linking TCM theory with modern medical research, providing a key experimental platform for elucidating the 'syndrome-disease' correlation mechanism in male-specific diseases and for screening effective prescriptions. This article reviews recent progress in animal model research on common TCM andrological diseases, including prostatic diseases, sexual dysfunction, and male infertility, with a focus on analyzing the application, advantages, and disadvantages of various modeling strategies, such as immune induction, hormonal intervention, and multi-factor combination across different syndrome types. However, despite breakthroughs in model construction techniques, current research still faces several challenges, including insufficient standardization of syndrome differentiation and difficulties in quantifying TCM-specific indicators. Future studies need to optimize model evaluation systems by integrating modern technologies, in order to promote the standardization and internationalization of TCM andrology research.

AIM To study the effects of Jiaotai Pills and their single composition drugs on high-fat diet-induced hypothalamic inflammation in obese mice.METHODS C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into the normal group(15 mice)and the high-fat group(75 mice). The mice given 12 weeks of high-fat diet feeding were further randomly divided into the model group, the Jiaotai Pills group, the Coptis chinensis group, the Cinnamomum cassia group and the positive metformin group, with 15 mice in each group. After 6 weeks of administration, the mice had their body weight and fasting blood glucose(FBG)levels detected;their hypothalamic expressions of IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α and Socs3 mRNA detected by RT-qPCR;their hypothalamic expressions of TLR4,MyD88,IKKβ and activated NF-κB protein detected by Western blot;their hypothalamic expressions of Iba1 and GFAP detected by immunohistochemistry;and their ultrastructural changes of nerve tissues observed using transmission electron microscopy(TEM).RESULTS Compared with the model group, each drug group displayed decreased hypothalamic expressions of IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α and Socs3 mRNA(P<0.01),and improved number and morphology of nerve cells revealed by TEM.The groups intervened with Jiaotai Pills,or Coptis chinensis,or metformin shared decreased body weight and FBG levels(P<0.05);decreased protein expressions of TLR4,MyD88,IKKβ and p-NF-κB(P<0.05);and decreased number of hypothalamic astrocytes and microglia(P<0.05).Additionally,decreased p-NF-κB protein expression was observed in the Cinnamomum cassia group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Jiaotai Pills and their single composition drugs can improve high-fat diet-induced hypothalamic inflammation in obese mice.

Aim To explore the MST1 knockdown at-tenuates the inhibitory effect of salvianolic acid B(Sal B)on pERK anti-renal fibrosis. Methods In vitro experiments stimulated human renal cortical proximal tubular epithelial cells(HK-2)with XMU-XP-1(10μmol·L-1)inhibitor;in vivo experiments induced wild-type(WT)and MST1 systemic knockout mouse(MST1-/-)renal fibrosis models with DEN/CCl4/C2H5OH(DCC)and interfered with Sal B(15 mg·kg-1·d-1,ig)intervention.Renal histopathology was observed by HE and Masson staining;α-SMA and pERK protein expression was detected by Western blot;and pERK protein expression was detected by im-munofluorescence.Results In vitro results showed that Sal B could inhibit pERK protein expression. In vivo results showed that Sal B could improve DCC-in-duced renal tissue pathological injury and inhibit α-SMA and pERK protein expression;MST1-/-aggrava-ted pathological injury and significantly up-regulated α-SMA and pERK protein expression. Conclusion Sal B reduces the stimulatory effect of XMU-MP-1 on HK-2 cells by inhibiting the phosphorylation of ERK protein;Sal B exerts its anti-renal fibrosis effect by inhibiting the phosphorylation of α-SMA protein and ERK pro-tein;and MST1-/-,aggravating the pathological inju-ry of renal tissue, significantly up-regulated the expres-sion of α-SMA and pERK protein, which in turn atten-uated the antirenal fibrosis effect of Sal B.

Objective:To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of work ability in gynecological cancer patients, so as to provide a reference for occupational rehabilitation management of cancer patients. Methods:A total of 183 gynecological cancer patients who visited the gynecological oncology outpatient department of Women′s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from November 2022 to March 2023 were selected by the convenience sampling. The General Information Questionnaire, Return-to-Work Self-efficacy Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Quesionnaire Core 30, Work Ability Index were selected for cross-sectional investigaton. The multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of work ability in gynecological cancer patients. Results:A total of 189 questionnaires were sent out in this study, and 183 were effectively collected, with an effective recovery rate of 96.83% (183/189). The patients were (44.64 ± 7.06) years old. The scores of the patients were (27.77 ± 7.58) points on Work Ability Index, (4.72 ± 1.14) points on Return-to-Work Self-efficacy Questionnaire, (86.93 ± 23.44) points on Social Support Rating Scale, (79.46 ± 19.53) points on overall health status area and (41.23 ± 27.80) points on the field of fatigue symptoms area of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Quesionnaire Core 30. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that fatigue, comorbidities, clinical stage of disease, primary treatment, per capita monthly income of families, return-to-work self efficacy and job nature were independent influencing factors of work ability in gynecological cancer patients ( t values were -10.47-2.86, all P<0.05), which explained 67.9% of the total variance. Conclusions:Clinical medical staff should pay attention to the influencing factors that affect work ability in gynecological cancer patients, in order to take targeted occupational rehabilitation measures to improve their work ability.

Objective To explore the coupling mechanism between medical surge response resources and the spread of secondary risks during public health emergencies,as well as the effectiveness of relevant interventions. Methods Based on complex network theory,a dual-layer network model of medical resources and secondary events was constructed. The interactive feedback between medical resource status and secondary event risk,as well as the effects of network structure, were analyzed through MATLAB simulations,REPAST agent-based modeling, and mean-field analysis. Results Simulation and prediction results show that an increase in first-layer resource-deficient nodes significantly raises the activation rate and transmission speed of secondary events, while the clustering and spread of secondary events in the second layer,in turn, intensify resource depletion, creating a negative feedback loop.Mean-field analysis indicates a nonlinear positive correlation between the adequacy of medical resources and the likelihood of secondary events.Network structure analysis reveals that when the average node degree exceeds 8,resource allocation efficiency improves markedly. Conclusion There exists a dynamic coupling and bidirectional feedback relationship between medical resource status and secondary event risks.Enhancing the flexible allocation and responsiveness of medical resources, improving multi-sectoral collaborative monitoring and coordinated regulation, optimizing network connectivity and coordination mechanisms for resource distribution, and establishing dynamic monitoring and tiered early warning systems are key strategies for strengthening the resilience of healthcare systems and effectively containing the spread of secondary events.
