Purpose: This study aimed to systematically evaluate school-based suicide prevention programs for adolescents, focusing on their impact on suicide attempts, knowledge and attitudes about suicide, and help-seeking behaviors. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Databases searched included PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, KMBASE, KoreaMed, and ScienceON. Randomized controlled trials of school-based interventions for middle and high school students were included. The Risk of Bias 2.0 tool was used to assess study quality. Results: Out of 1,738 screened records, eight studies met the inclusion criteria. SOS (Signs of Suicide) and SEYLE (Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe) programs significantly reduced suicide attempts by 40% and 55%, respectively. Sources of Strength improved help-seeking behavior (ES=0.62, p<.001), though results were inconsistent across interventions. All programs enhanced knowledge and attitudes about suicide, but methodological limitations, such as variability in implementation and reporting, affected reliability. Conclusion School-based suicide prevention programs effectively reduce suicide attempts and improve awareness but show mixed results for help-seeking behaviors. Standardized, scalable interventions and rigorous evaluations are needed to enhance their impact.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore how autonomy support mediates the association between exercise knowledge and exercise self-efficacy in patients with severe mental illness. Methods: A total of 181 individuals were selected through convenience sampling. They completed self-administered surveys measuring exercise knowledge, autonomy support, and exercise self-efficacy. The data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. To determine the statistical significance of the mediating effect, a bootstrapping test was also conducted. Results: This research revealed that autonomy support significantly predicted exercise self-efficacy and partially mediated the association between exercise knowledge and exercise self-efficacy (lower limit confidence interval [LLCI]: 2.34; upper limit confidence interval [ULCI]: 5.97). The model incorporating exercise knowledge and autonomy support explained 42.0% of the variance in exercise self-efficacy. Conclusion Collaborative endeavors involving mental health practitioners and exercise experts demonstrate notable efficacy in enhancing exercise self-efficacy of individuals with mental illness.

Purpose: We aimed to identify factors influencing smoking cessation success among cancer patients registered in an inpatient smoking cessation program at a single cancer center. Materials and Methods: The electronic medical records of enrolled patients with solid cancer were retrospectively reviewed. We evaluated factors associated with 6-month smoking cessation. Results: A total of 458 patients with cancer were included in this study. Their mean age was 62.9±10.3 years, and 56.3% of the participants had lung cancer. 193 (42.1%) had not yet begun their main treatment. The mean number of counseling sessions for the participants was 8.4±3.5, and 46 (10.0%) patients were prescribed smoking cessation medications. The 6-month smoking cessation success rate was 48.0%. Multivariate analysis showed that younger age (<65 years), cohabited status, early stage, and the number of counseling sessions were statistically significant factors affecting 6-month smoking cessation success (p<0.05). Initiation of a cessation program before cancer treatment was significantly associated with cessation success (odds ratio, 1.66; 95% confidence interval, 1.02–2.70; p=0.040). Conclusion Smoking cessation intervention must be considered when establishing a treatment plan immediately after a cancer diagnosis among smokers.

Objective: To investigate the effects of dietary habits on general and abdominal obesity in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder according to sex. Methods: A total of 270 patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder registered at mental health welfare centers and rehabilitation facilities were recruited. General obesity was defined as a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m 2 , and abdominal obesity was defined as a waist circumstance ≥ 90 cm in men and ≥ 85 cm in women. Dietary habits were evaluated using dietary guidelines published by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare. Demographic and clinical characteristics along with dietary habits and information related to obesity were collected. Factors related to obesity were evaluated separately by sex. Results: Dietary habits differed according to sex, in that scores for healthy eating habits were lower in men than in women. In men, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 17.0% and 37.3%, respectively. In women, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 23.1% and 38.5%, respectively. Regression analysis showed that the scores of regular eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in men, and the scores of healthy eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in women. Conclusion Among patients with schizophrenia, regular eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in men, and healthy eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in women. Nutrition education should be provided to community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia to prevent obesity in this population.

Background: A positive association between air pollution and insulin resistance has been shown in previous studies as a precursor state of type 2 diabetes, especially in older adults. This study was conducted to investigate the association between insulin resistance and environmental polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) exposure as ubiquitous outdoor and indoor air pollution components. Methods: From the second Korean National Environmental Health Survey, 5,717 adults aged ≥19 years were included in this study. To identify the association between environmental PAH exposure (urinary 1-hydroxypyrene, 1-OHP) and insulin resistance, defined by the ratio of triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, we performed multiple stepwise regression analysis, adjusting for age, sex, education, physical activity, exposure to smoking and air pollution, body mass index, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Results: Urinary 1-OHP concentration was significantly associated with the ratio of triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Conclusion Environmental exposure to PAHs is associated with increased insulin resistance in adults.

BACKGROUND: This study was to identify factors affecting the job satisfaction of pediatric nurse.METHODS: The participants were the 190 nurses who worked in five pediatric ward and hospital in G city. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from August 1 to August 31 2014, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Tukey, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear analysis with the SPSS PC+ 21.0 program.RESULTS: The variables that affect job satisfaction of pediatric nurses were nurse-parent partnership(β=.30, p<.001), Nursing duty(β=−.24, p=.006), Lack of professional knowledge and skills(β=−.24, p=.002), treatment of nurses(β=−.22, p=.014). These factors accounted for 31.0% of the variance in the job satisfaction.CONCLUSION: This study shows that the methods for increasing nurse-parent partnership and reducing job stress are needed, so as to enhance job satisfaction of nurses who are working pediatric ward.

BACKGROUND: We investigated the association between pentraxin 3 (PTX3), a novel inflammatory marker, and bone mineral density (BMD) in the general Korean population. METHODS: We selected a sub-cohort of 1,440 subjects (757 men and 683 women) from participants in the community-based Dong-gu Study. The mean age was 66.0 ± 8.1 years for men and 63.7 ± 7.9 years for women. The plasma PTX3 levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and BMD was measured in the femoral neck and lumbar spine using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Linear regression analyses were used to evaluate the association between the plasma PTX3 levels and BMD. RESULTS: PTX3 was inversely associated with the BMD of the lumbar spine (P = 0.010) and femoral neck (P < 0.001) in men but not in women. For men, the association with the BMD of the femoral neck remained after adjustment for multiple comparison (P = 0.020). CONCLUSION: This study suggests that PTX3 levels might be inversely associated with BMD in elderly men.
