1.Consensus of Korean Asthma Study Group on Definition of Clinical Remission in Severe Asthma: A Modified Delphi Study

Background:
Asthma remission has recently emerged as an aspirational treatment goal, yet its definition remains inconsistent across studies and expert groups. The absence of a standardized framework hampers its application in clinical practice and research, particularly in Korea where biologics use is rapidly increasing. This study aimed to establish a consensus definition of clinical remission in severe asthma among Korean experts.
Methods:
A two-round modified Delphi survey, followed by a focused third round, was conducted among 28 board-certified pulmonologists from the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (KATRD). The questionnaire consisted of six domains and 27 items. Responses were analyzed using agreement rates, interquartile ranges, and content validity ratios to determine consensus levels.
Results:
Consensus was reached on defining clinical remission as a composite of no exacerbations, no systemic corticosteroid use, sustained symptom control (Asthma Control Test ≥20 on at least three occasions over 12 months), and stabilization and optimization of pulmonary function while on maintenance treatment. Experts agreed that pulmonary function should be assessed based on clinical judgment rather than absolute thresholds. Complete remission was additionally defined as fulfilling all clinical remission criteria with normalization of type 2 inflammation (blood eosinophils <300/μL and fractional exhaled nitric oxide <25 ppb).
Conclusion
This Delphi consensus provides a regionally relevant and pragmatic framework for defining remission in severe asthma. These statements may help guide clinical practice, inform guideline development, and support future research on remission as a treatment goal.
2.Characteristics of Patients with Idiopathic Bronchiectasis in Comparison to Post-infectious Bronchiectasis in South Korea

Background:
Bronchiectasis has a complex and heterogeneous pathogenesis, with various etiologies, the majority being idiopathic. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of patients with idiopathic bronchiectasis in comparison to those with post-infectious bronchiectasis.
Methods:
We analyzed data from patients with idiopathic and post-infectious bronchiectasis (including post-tuberculosis) from the Korean Multicenter Bronchiectasis Audit and Research Collaboration (KMBARC) registry, a prospective cohort study.
Results:
Among the 866 patients enrolled in the study, 346 (40.0%) were classified as having idiopathic bronchiectasis, while 363 (41.9%) had post-infectious bronchiectasis. The idiopathic group demonstrated a shorter disease duration, a higher body mass index (BMI), a lower prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a higher prevalence of rhinosinusitis, a predominance of lower lobe distribution, less frequent use of regular respiratory treatments, better pulmonary function, and a statistically lower bronchiectasis severity index compared to the post-infectious group. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted, considering factors such as gender, age, BMI, history of asthma, COPD, rhinosinusitis, rheumatoid arthritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and smoking status. A higher BMI (odds ratio [OR], 1.09; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04 to 1.15) and a history of rhinosinusitis (OR, 3.10; 95% CI, 1.57 to 6.14) were associated with idiopathic bronchiectasis. In contrast, a history of COPD was linked to post-infectious bronchiectasis (OR, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.41 to 0.80).
Conclusion
Patients with idiopathic bronchiectasis are characterized by a higher BMI and a history of rhinosinusitis compared to those with post-infectious bronchiectasis. These findings may provide exploratory insights into underlying systemic or non-pulmonary factors. Further research is necessary to clarify the clinical significance of these associations.

A total of 10 male New Zealand white rabbits were used to compare recovery levels between implants treated with SLA (SLA group) and those treated with both SLA and femtosecond laser (SF group). The implants’ surface characteristics were determined through topographic evaluation, element analysis, surface roughness, and wettability evaluation. In total, 4 implants were placed in each rabbit (2 in each tibia), with 20 implants per treatment group. Using the implant stability quotient (ISQ), marginal bone volume, and histological analysis (bone-to-implant contact (BIC), bone volume/tissue volume (BV/TV)), and post implantation outcomes were assessed. Outcome data were analyzed using independent t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and one-way ANOVA (α = 0.05).
RESULTS:
No significant differences were noted between SLA and SF groups in terms of ISQ, marginal bone volume, BIC, and BV/TV (P > .05). However, significant differences in ISQ were observed within each group over time (P < .05). Furthermore, significant differences were noted in the marginal bone volume of the SF group (P < .05) and the BV/TV of the SLA group between weeks 4 and 6 (P < .05).
CONCLUSION

Heart failure (HF) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in South Korea, imposing substantial physical, emotional, and financial burdens on patients and society. Despite the high burden of symptom and complex care needs of HF patients, palliative care and hospice services remain underutilized in South Korea due to cultural, institutional, and knowledge-related barriers. This position statement from the Korean Society of Heart Failure emphasizes the need for integrating palliative and hospice care into HF management to improve quality of life and support holistic care for patients and their families. By clarifying the role of palliative care in HF and proposing practical referral criteria, this position statement aims to bridge the gap between HF and palliative care services in South Korea, ultimately improving patient-centered outcomes and aligning treatment with the goals and values of HF patients.
9.Utilization of the remaining periodontal ligament and tooth repositioning for optimized periodontal healing: a case series

Tooth autotransplantation and surgical extrusion can preserve natural dentition, but outcomes are often compromised under nonideal periodontal conditions. The viability of the periodontal ligament (PDL) is essential for regeneration. This case series introduces a zonebased approach of donor–recipient interfaces: zone I (intact PDL and bone), II (one intact, one damaged), and III (both damaged).Three cases involving hemisection, intentional replantation with rotation, and autotransplantation were managed by repositioning the tooth to maximize zones I and II while minimizing zone III. After 5–12 months, probing depths decreased by 2–4 mm, Periotest values improved, and radiographs confirmed bone stability. This approach consistently transformed unfavorable zone III interfaces into more biologically favorable contacts. A zone-based repositioning strategy leveraging residual PDL may promote periodontal healing even under compromised conditions. Further prospective studies are needed to validate this system.
10.Influences of Generation Z Characteristics on Job Embeddedness and Turnover Intention

This study explored how Generation Z characteristics—specifically work–life balance, growth needs, and individualism—along with work environment, emotional labor, and interpersonal skills, affect job embeddedness among newly graduated nurses. It also examined whether job embeddedness mediates the relationship between these factors and turnover intention. Methods: A correlational descriptive study was conducted by analyzing survey data collected from 131 clinical nurses born between 1995 and 2000, who had less than three years of nursing work experience in South Korea. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was employed to identify the independent effects of Generation Z characteristics on job embeddedness, over and above the effects of work environment, emotional labor, and interpersonal skills. Path analysis using bootstrapping method was conducted to examine the mediating role of job embeddedness in turnover intention. Results: Needs for growth and work environment were significant predictors of job embeddedness among newly graduated nurses. Furthermore, the effects of needs for growth and work environment on turnover intention were significantly mediated by job embeddedness. Conclusion: Understanding the characteristics of Generation Z, particularly their needs for growth, along with the work environment, is essential for enhancing job embeddedness among newly graduated nurses. Strengthening job embeddedness can effectively reduce their turnover intention.
