Background: The survival impact of bisphosphonates (BPs) remains uncertain, particularly in East Asian populations, where new-user analyses have been limited. Methods: This was a retrospective, new-user cohort study using the Korean National Health Insurance Service–National Sample Cohort (2002–2011). We identified new users of BPs (N=41,854), and a 1:1 age-matched control group (N=41,854) among women aged ≥ 50 years. Participants were followed for all-cause mortality for up to 10 years. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs), adjusting for age and the Charlson Comorbidity Index. Results: A total of 83,708 women were included. Compared with the control group, the risk of all-cause mortality was lower in BP group. BP users showed adjusted HR of 0.47 (95% confidence interval, 0.44–0.49; P<0.001) compared to controls. Conclusions In this large, nationwide Korean cohort, initiating BPs was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality in women aged 50 and older. These findings suggest that BPs may have survival benefits beyond fracture prevention.

To account for the 15-year latency period when estimating the PAF in 2020, the prevalence rates from 2015 and attributable cases or deaths from 2020 were used. Results: The PAF attributed to EBW was similar for both cancer incidence and deaths using either the World Health Organization (WHO) Asian-Pacific region standard or a modified Asian standard, with the WHO standard yielding the lowest values. In the Korean population, the PAFs of EBW for cancer incidence were 2.96% in men and 3.61% in women, while those for cancer deaths were 0.67% in men and 3.06% in women in 2020. Additionally, PAFs showed a gradual increase in both sexes until 2030. Conclusion The EBW continues to have a significant impact on cancer incidence and deaths in Korea. Effective prevention strategies targeting the reduction of this modifiable risk factor can substantially decrease the cancer burden.

Purpose: In this study, we evaluated 66 patients diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) enrolled in two Korean Cancer Study Group trials to investigate the response and progression patterns in recurrent and/or metastatic ACC treated with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (VEGFR-TKIs). Materials and Methods: We evaluated 66 patients diagnosed with ACC who were enrolled in the Korean Cancer Study Group trials. The tumor measurements, clinical data, treatment outcomes, and progression patterns of therapy were analyzed. Results: In the 66 patients (53 receiving axitinib and 13 receiving nintedanib), the disease control rate was 61%, and three patients achieved partial response. The median follow-up, median progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival, and 6-month PFS rate were 27.6%, 12.4%, and 18.1% months and 62.1%, respectively. Among 42 patients who experienced progression, 27 (64.3%) showed target lesion progression. Bone metastasis was an independent poor prognostic factor. Conclusion Overall, most patients demonstrated stable disease with prolonged PFS; however, prominent target lesion progression occurred in some patients. Thus, PFS may capture VEGFR-TKI efficacy better than the objective response rate.
