Background/Aims: Cold snare polypectomy (CSP) is recommended for colorectal polyps <10 mm; however, the impact of snare size on clinical outcomes remains unclear. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of 10-mm and 15-mm snares for CSP of small colorectal polyps. Methods: In this prospective multicenter study, patients with 4–10 mm non-pedunculated polyps underwent CSP with either a 10-mm or 15-mm snare. Both snares had identical wire thickness and hexagonal loop design. The primary outcome was histological complete resection rate (CRR). Secondary outcomes included adverse events and technical parameters. Results: In total, 182 patients were enrolled (10-mm group: n = 92; 15-mm group: n = 90). Baseline characteristics, including age, sex, polyp size, morphology, location, and pathology, were comparable between groups. Histological CRRs were 90.2% in the 10-mm group and 91.1% in the 15-mm group (P= 0.483). No significant differences were observed in the presence of submucosal tissue within specimens (P= 0.523), iatrogenic ulcer size (P= 0.532), hematoma occurrence (P= 0.391), or intraprocedural bleeding requiring hemostasis (6.5% vs. 5.6%; P= 0.974). No cases of delayed bleeding or perforation were reported. Logistic regression analysis identified iatrogenic ulcer size > 8 mm as an independent predictor of complete resection (odds ratio, 3.89; 95% confidence interval, 1.15–13.21; P= 0.029); snare size was not significantly associated with CRR (P= 0.519). Conclusions CSP using either a 10-mm or a 15-mm snare for 4–10 mm non-pedunculated colorectal polyps showed no significant difference in complete resection or safety outcomes within this size range. Methods: This cross-sectional study administered a descriptive survey to 184 college students across Korea. Data collection was conducted from August 27 to 28, 2024, using an online survey platform (Google Forms). The self-reported survey comprised the Health-Related Quality of Life Instrument with 8 Items scale, the Dry Eye Questionnaire 5, and the Ocular Surface Disease Index. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 27.0. Results: The participants had a mean age of 21.37 (standard deviation 1.96) years. Regression analysis identified sleep satisfaction, vision-related functions, and dry eye symptoms as statistically significant predictors of QoL, accounting for 18.4% of the variance (F = 14.71, p < .001). Dry eye symptoms were significantly influenced by the use of artificial tears, vision-related functions, and environmental factors, which accounted for 41.3% of the variance (F = 43.93, p < .001). Additionally, significant determinants of ocular surface disease included the use of vision correction tools, the presence of ophthalmic diseases, sleep satisfaction, and dry eye symptoms. These factors explained 45.7% of the variance, confirming the model's robustness (F = 31.84, p < .001). Conclusion: It is necessary to identify strategies to alleviate dry eye syndrome in college students and develop comprehensive prevention and management programs to improve their QoL.

Antimicrobial (AM) resistance is a growing threat in human and veterinary medicine, spreading across species and perceived as One-Health issue. Prudent use of AM products is essential in mitigating this risk in both human and veterinary medicine. Farm veterinarians, responsible for prescribing appropriate AM and offering advice to farmers on their proper usage, are regarded as key players in the livestock industry. An online survey of farm veterinarians (n = 1,531) was conducted to assess their educational experience, beliefs, current status of prescription, practical behavior, and self-efficacy regarding the prudent use of antimicrobials (PUA). The data from 170 respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression and mediation analysis. Participants chose AM based on their experiences, academic resources, and peer veterinarians. Approximately 77% did not routinely conduct antibiotic-susceptibility-test. Most participants believed in the importance of PUA and the role of veterinarians to reduce AM resistance, but they reported a lack of awareness among farmers and insufficient national support interfere with their practical behavior with regard to PUA. Half of the participants had PUA-education, and 78.6% reported that education had a positive impact on their behavior with PUA. Self-efficacy partly mediates the relationship between belief and behavior for PUA, which accounted for 23.77% of the total effect that beliefs have on behavior for PUA. The findings of the study show that enhancing veterinarians' abilities to practice and their self-efficacy through education tailored to the current status of farms can contribute to the reduction of AMs in the livestock sector.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) play a key role in liver fibrosis. Succinate and succinate receptor (GPR91) signaling pathway are involved in the activation, proliferation, and migration of HSCs. We investigated whether succinate may induce hepatic fibrosis. The mice were randomly divided into 2 groups —the control group (chow diet-fed mice, n = 26) and sodium succinate group (2% sodium succinate + chow diet, n = 38). Each diet was provided for 16 weeks. Mice administered an oral diet of 2% sodium succinate for sixteen weeks lost body weight and had increased serum alanine transaminase and hepatic triglyceride contents compared to those in the control mice. Moreover, mice fed with sodium succinate showed increased expression of the alpha smooth muscle actin protein and gene in the liver at 8 weeks of feeding and increased fibrosis in their histology at 16 weeks of feeding. However, the expression of the GPR91 protein and mRNA increased at 4 weeks of feeding, but decreased at 8 and 16 weeks of feeding. These results suggest that an oral succinate diet could induce liver damage and liver fibrosis in mice and that GPR91 signaling might be an early marker or sensor of hepatic fibrosis development.

Methods: The following databases were searched with no limitation of the time period: Ovid-MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Ovid-Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, NDSL, KoreaMed, RISS, and KISS. Two investigators independently reviewed and selected articles according to the predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria. ROB 2.0 and the RoBANS 2.0 checklist were used to evaluate study quality. Results: Based on the 14 selected studies, psychosocial support interventions were provided for the purpose of (1) informational support (including GDM and diabetes mellitus information; how to manage diet, exercise, stress, blood glucose, and weight; postpartum management; and prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus); (2) self-management motivation (setting goals for diet and exercise management, glucose monitoring, and enhancing positive health behaviors); (3) relaxation (practicing breathing and/or meditation); and (4) emotional support (sharing opinions and support). Psychosocial supportive interventions to women with GDM lead to behavioral change, mostly in the form of self-care behavior; they also reduce depression, anxiety and stress, and have an impact on improving self-efficacy. These interventions contribute to lowering physiological parameters such as fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and 2-hour postprandial glucose levels. Conclusion Psychosocial supportive interventions can indeed positively affect self-care behaviors, lifestyle changes, and physiological parameters in women with GDM. Nurses can play a pivotal role in integrative management and can streamline the care for women with GDM during pregnancy and following birth, especially through psychosocial support interventions.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of targeting risk factors for the control of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) among high-risk infants in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: Infants admitted to the NICU and diagnosed with CLABSI from January to December 2013 were eligible for inclusion to the study. The CLABSI group (n=47) was matched in a 1:2 ratio to the control group (n=94) based on gestational age, birth weight, and Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology-II. Risk factors for CLABSI were identified using the Cox proportional hazard model, and analysis of the effect of these risk factors targeting infection control was performed. Results: The risk factors associated with CLABSI were prolonged central line dwell days (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.028; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.011 to 1.045; P=0.001), use of a silicone catheter (adjusted HR, 5.895; 95% CI, 1.893 to 18.355; P=0.002), surgical treatment (adjusted HR, 3.793; 95% CI, 1.467 to 9.805; P=0.006), and less probiotic supplementation (adjusted HR, 0.254; 95% CI, 0.068 to 0.949; P=0.042). By targeting these risk factors with a quality improvement initiative, the mean CLABSI incidence rate per 1,000 catheter-days decreased from 6.6 to 3.1 (P=0.004). Conclusion Targeting risk factors for infection control significantly reduced the rate of CLABSI among high-risk infants in the NICU.
