Objective:To investigate the relationship between macrophage activation related factors and clini-cal symptoms of schizophrenia(SCZ).Methods:Outpatient or inpatient SCZ patients(n=166)and normal con-trols(n=71)meeting the diagnostic criteria of DSM 4th edition were selected as subjects. The psychopathological symptoms were assessed by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS),and the concentrations of α-Na-Galases,MAF and IL-18 were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The correlation be-tween biological indicators and clinical symptoms was analyzed and the mediation effect was tested. Results:The concentrations of α-NaGalases(P<0.001)and MAF(P<0.01)in SCZ group were lower than those in normal control group. In SCZ group,IL-18 was negatively correlated with α-NaGalases concentration(r=-0.24,P<0.01).α-NaGalases was positively correlated with MAF concentration(r=0.67,P<0.001),and the total score of PANSS positive symptom scale was positively correlated with IL-18(r=0.21,P<0.05)and MAF concentration(r=0.22,P<0.01).The mediating effect of α-NaGalases and MAF was statistically significant, and the relative mediating effect accounted for 25.47%.Conclusion:The increase of IL-18 level may indicate the occurrence of positive symptoms of schizophrenia, and α-NaGalases and MAF may negatively regulate the inflammatory damage effect of IL-18 on SCZ,thereby reducing the positive symptoms.

A 68-year-old male patient with lung adenocarcinoma was treated with icotinib 125 mg thrice daily orally and Kanglaite soft capsules (康莱特软胶囊) 2.7 g orally 4 times daily. The patient′s serum creatinine (Scr) was 91 μmol/L before the medication. He developed foamy urine, fatigue, chest tightness, loss of appetite, and red rash on the neck and chest skin 29 days after the medication. No intervention was given and the patient received a total of 76 days of medication. Laboratory tests showed Scr 167 μmol/L, immunoglobulin A (IgA) 4 090 mg/L, urine protein 2 g/L, urinary protein 2.61 g per 24 hours, urinary red blood cells 6.8/high power field, and urine α microglobulin 66.9 mg/L. Through pathological examination, the patient was diagnosed with focal proliferative IgA nephropathy and acute renal tubule injury, which was considered to be related to icotinib. Low protein diet and the symptomatic treatments were given. After 80 days of treatment, the patient′s Scr was 189 μmol/L and urine protein was 2 g/L. After that, the patient was lost to follow-up.

Objective To investigate the correlation between EBV-LMP2-specific cell responses,EBV DNA copies and titers of IgA antibody to viral capsid antigen (IgA/VCA).Methods IgA/VCA antibody were tested with immune-enzyme method. Both of plasma and lymphocytes were respectively separated from IgA/VCA-positive individuals and patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) without treatment.EBV DNA copies and LMP2-specific cell responses were detected by interferon-gamma Elispots assay and fluorescent quantitative PCR method. Results IgA/VCA antibody in 80 of 1 233 individuals was positive in Cangwu county, and the positive rate is 6%.EBV-LMP2-specific cell responses and EBV DNA copies were detected in 72 of 80 IgA/VCA positive individuals and patients with NPC.EBV DNA copies in plasma were increased with rise of titers of IgA/VCA antibody, while EBV-LMP2-specific cell responses were declined. Conclusion EBV-LMP2-specific cell responses and EBV DNA copies are probably associated with titers of IgA/VCA antibody.

Journal of International Oncology 2013;(3):174-177
PRDI-BFI and RIZ homology domain containing proteins (PRDM) play a key role in cell differentiation and proliferation. Most members of the PRDM gene family are tumor suppressor genes which involved in tumorigenesis and abnormal expression in a variety of tumors.Aberrant DNA methylation often silences these genes, which may occur in the early stage of tumor,Cancer can be reversed by demethylation, which provides a new way for cancer treatment.
