OBJECTIVES: To develop the birth weight curves of the Chinese Han (26-41 weeks of gestation) and Zhuang (28-41 weeks of gestation) singleton neonates in 11 cities of China, as well as the birth weight means of full-term neonates of 14 Chinese ethnic groups. METHODS: The live singleton neonates who were born in 11 maternal and child health care hospitals from 11 cities of China between January 2017 and December 2020 were classified according to the mother's ethnic group. Birth weight means were calculated for the full-term neonates of each ethnic group. For the Han and Zhuang singleton neonates with a large sample size, the Lambda-Mu-Sigma (LMS) method was used to establish the birth weight percentile curves of the Han and Zhuang singleton neonates with different gestational ages. RESULTS: A total of 105 365 live singleton neonates were included, among whom the Han neonates had the highest number of 84 851 (26-41 weeks of gestation), followed by the Zhuang neonates (12 803 neonates with a gestational age of 28-41 weeks). The neonates of the other Chinese ethnic groups enrolled were live full-term singleton neonates, with a sample size of more than 100 neonates for each ethnic group. The 3rd-97th percentile curves of birth weight were established for the Han singleton neonates with a gestational age of 26-41 weeks and the Zhuang singleton neonates with a gestational age of 28-41 weeks. The birth weight curves of the Han singleton neonates at each gestational age were higher than those of the Zhuang singleton neonates. Birth weight means (3 199-3 499 g) and standard deviations were determined for 14 Chinese ethnic groups, i.e., Li, Mulao, Zhuang, Yao, Dong, Miao, Han, Buyi, Mongolian, Tujia, Yi, Hui, Man, and Korean ethnic groups. The Li ethnic group had the lowest birth weight, followed by the Mulao, Zhuang, Yao, Dong, Miao, Han, Buyi, Mongolian, Tujia, Yi, Hui, Man, and Korean ethnic groups. CONCLUSIONS The 3rd-97th percentile curves of birth weight are developed for the Han (26-41 weeks of gestation) and Zhuang (28-41 weeks of gestation) singleton neonates in 11 cities of China, and birth weight means are determined for the full-term neonates of 14 Chinese ethnic groups in 11 cities of China, which provides a reference for evaluating the intrauterine growth of neonates in these ethnic groups.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to analyze different transcripts specifically expressed by red blood cells in RhD-positive individuals， and to explore the mechanism of alternative splicing. MethodsErythroblasts from RhD-positive individuals were isolated and cultured in an in vitro erythroblast culture system. The fragment from exon 6 to 3’untranslated coding regions of RHD gene of RhD-positive individuals was amplified by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR） method. The PCR products were then sequenced by next-generation sequencing and the mRNA transcripts were analyzed. The maximum entropy values of 5’ splice site （ss） and 3’ ss of all exons of RHD gene were analyzed using bioinformatics. ResultsThe transcripts of the RHD gene were mainly normal full-length mRNA. In addition， eight other abnormal transcripts were also identified. According to the expression frequencies （high to low）， these transcripts were exon 7 deletion， exon 9 deletion， exons 8 and 9 deletion， exons 7-9 deletion， exons 7 and 9 deletion， exons 8-9 deletion and 170 bp insertion between exon 7 and 10， full-length with 170 bp insertion between exon 7 and 8， exon 9 deletion and 170 bp insertion between exon 7 and 8. The last three transcripts were novel. Bioinformatic analysis suggested that the abnormal splicing of exon 7 and exon 9 might be due to the decreased binding ability of 5’ss or 3’ss to the spliceosome. The intron 7 was expressed in mRNA， which might be related to the sequences conserved with 5’ss and 3’ss splicing. ConclusionThe alternative splicing patterns of RHD gene are very complicated， which leads to various transcripts at the mRNA level of the RHD gene from RhD-positive individuals.

This paper reported one acute lymphoblastic leukemia patient who infected with Plasmodium falciparum after blood transfusion. Through the epidemiological investigation on this patient and the related blood donors as well as laboratory detections, the source of infection was ascertained. This blood donor was an overseas student from Africa, whose blood sample was positive in the rapid diagnostic test, and the results of microscopic examination of peripheral blood smear and PCR both suggested P. falciparum positive.

Objective:To investigate the HBV infection and analyze the related risk factors among Li minority in Baisha county,Hainan Province. Methods: A total of 1 595 individuals of Li minority in Baisha county,were enrolled by random sampling method from July 2014 to October 2015. Epidemiological data including baseline characteristics and risk factors were obtained. HBcAb was detected by chemiluminescence method. The difference in age between HBcAb positive and negative group was analyzed by t test. The effects of age,gender and related risk factors on HBcAb were analyzed by univariate chi-square test and multivariate Logistic regression. Results: The positive rate of HBcAb was 71. 8% (1 145/1 595) and no significant difference between male and female was observed(x2=0. 134,P=0. 715). The difference of HBV infection among age groups was statistically significant (F=540. 769,P＜0. 001). The HBV infection rate was 11. 9% in the 12-17 year group,which was significantly lower than the others. The rate in the 18-23 year group (28. 0% ) was significantly higher than that in the 12-17 year group,but significantly lower than the other groups (＞85% ). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that alcohol consumption and tattoo were independent risk factors associated with HBV infection (x2=169. 833,P＜0. 001;x2=11. 354,P=0. 001). Conclusion: The rate of HBV infection of Li minority in Baisha county,Hainan Province is high. The age,alcohol consumption and tattoo are the independent risk factors for infection.

Based on standard carotid endarterectomy, we performed modified carotid endarterectomy in two cases of carotid artery stenosis by changing the direction of the carotid artery incision to avoid restenosis of the internal carotid artery without using a patch. The two patients recovered smoothly without any complications. Compared with eversion or patch endarterectomy, this modified carotid endarterectomy avoids restenosis of the carotid artery and shortens operation time.

We investigated the molecular characteristics of the full-length genome of 5 dengue serotype 4 virus (DENV-4) strains isolated in Yunnan Province,China,2015 and their molecular epidemiological feature.Isolation of dengue virus was using C6/36 cell culture method.Viral RNA was extracted from virus isolates,then the full-length genome was amplified by RT-PCR.The homology and phylogenetic analysis was made on the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences by bioinfor matics softwares including ClastalX1.83 and MEGA6 etc.Results showed that five strains of DENV-4 isolated from dengue fe ver cases in Ruili City of Yunnan Province in 2015,of these,2 strains from indigenous cases,3 from imported cases from Lashio and Nam Can cities of Myanmar to Ruili of China.RT-PCR and sequencing indicated that the full-length genes (10 661 nt) of 5 DENV-4 strains were obtained,and their open reading frame (103-10 264) were coded 3 386 amino acid residues.Phylogenetic tree and homology analysis based on the comeplete genome or structural and non-structural protein genes showed that the 5 DENV 4 isolates were highly homologous and gathered in an evolution as well as they have a closer genetic relationship with the DENV-4 genotype Ⅰ (G-Ⅰ) strains isolated from Thailand.Results indicated that the Yunnan strains belonged to G-Ⅰ.Yunnan strains and Thailand strains compared with DENV 4 prototype strain (H241,Philippines 1956) and Guangzhou strain (B5,1990) of China and showed low homology and evolutionary relationship.When Yunnan strains compared with H241 strain,there were 21 and 45 different sites in amino acid of structural and non-structural proteins,respectively.This is the first time in Yunnan to obtain full-length genomes sequence of DENV-4 and they have closer evolutionary relationship with DENV 4G-Ⅰ strains from Southeast Asia region in recent years.The autochthonous DENV-4 epidemic in Yunnan was detected for the first time,and the virus transmission sources were from neighboring northern Myanmar.It is necessary to further study that change of the amino acid sites of Yunnan strains of DENV-4 is related to its antigenicity and virulence.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of a novel disposable ring versus that of the suture device in circumcision for redundant prepuce and phimosis. METHODS: We randomly assigned 470 male patients with redundant prepuce or phimosis to receive circumcision with a novel disposable ring (the DR group, n = 235) or the suture device (the SD group, n = 235) and compared the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, pain scores, wound healing time, and postoperative complications and penile appearance between the two groups of patients. RESULTS: All the operations were completed smoothly. Compared with the SD group, the DR group showed significantly shorter operation time (［7.49 ± 1.84］ vs ［3.83 ± 0.42］ min, P <0. 05), less intraoperative blood loss (［3.34 ± 2.59］ vs ［2.41 ± 1.01］ ml, P <0.05), lower intraoperative pain score (0.57 ± 0.76 vs 0.20 ± 0.47, P <0.05) and 6-hour postoperative pain score (3.42 ± 1.12 vs 0.48 ± 0.94, P <0.05), shorter wound healing time (［12.05 ± 2.80］ vs ［7.79 ± 1.65］ d, P <0.05), lower incidence rates of postoperative glans congestion or edema (36.17% ［85/235］ vs 2.56% ［6/235］, P <0.05), dysuria or strenuous urination (34.04% ［80/235］ vs 2.13% ［5/235］, P <0.05) and bleeding or hematoma (5.11% ［12/235］ vs 1.28% ［3/235］, P <0.05), and higher satisfaction with postoperative penile appearance (90.6% ［213/235］ vs 95.8% ［228/235］, P <0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the SD and DR groups in the pain scores at the sixth night after operation (1.31 ± 0.96 vs 1.34 ± 1.07, P >0.05) or while the staples scraping the underpants or at the ring removal (3.49 ± 1.22 vs 3.36 ± 1.41, P >0.05). No obvious postoperative infection or delayed healing was observed except for 3 cases of wound dehiscence (1 in the DR and 2 in the SD group) and 8 cases of delayed removal of the staples in the SD group. CONCLUSIONS The novel disposable ring, with its advantages of short operation time, less bleeding and pain, good penile appearance, high safety, and simple operation, is obviously superior to the suture device in circumcision and deserves to be applied and popularized clinically. .

Objective: To compare the clinical effect of a novel disposable circumcision device Ring with that of conventional circumcision in the treatment of redundant prepuce and phimosis. METHODS: Totally, 750 patients with redundant prepuce or phimosis underwent Ring circumcision (group A, n = 450) or conventional circumcision (group B, n = 300). We recorded the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) intraoperative pain scores, postoperative complications, wound healing time, and patients' satisfaction with postoperative penile appearance, followed by comparison of the collected data between the two groups of patients. RESULTS: All the operations were successfully completed. Group A, as compared with B, showed significantly shorter operation time (［3.78 ± 0.42］ vs ［26.24 ± 3.99］ min, P <0.05), less intraoperative blood loss (［2.39 ± 1.01］ vs ［10.80 ± 3.57］ ml, P <0.05), lower pain scores intraoperatively (0.14 ± 0.36 vs 2.30 ± 1.46, P <0.05), 6 hours postoperatively (0.32 ± 0.78 vs 3.03 ± 1.56, P <0.05) and at the ring removal (3.35 ± 1.42 vs 2.78 ± 1.43, P <0.05), shorter wound healing time (［7.61 ± 1.60］ vs ［8.57 ± 1.37］ d, P <0.05), higher satisfaction with postoperative penile appearance (97.8% ［440/450］ vs 86% ［258/300］, P <0.05), and lower incidence of postoperative bleeding or hematoma (0.89% ［4/450］ vs 3% ［9/300］, P <0.05). No statistically significant differences were observed between groups A and B in the nocturnal pain score before the ring removal (1.45±1.02 vs 1.38 ± 0.92, P >0.05) or the postoperative incidence rate of edema (0.89% ［4/450］ vs 2.33% ［7/300］, P >0.05). There were no significant postoperative infections or delayed incision healing except for 1 case of wound dehiscence in each group. CONCLUSIONS Ring circumcision, with its advantages of shorter operation time, less blood loss and pain, higher safety, and better postoperative penile appearance, is easily accepted by the patients and deserves wide clinical application.

To understand the molecular characteristics of the full-length genome of dengue serotype 2 virus (DENV-2) strains isolated in southwestern border region of Yunnan province,China,in 2013 and 2015 and their epidemiological feature.Dengue virus was cultured in C6/36 cell line.Viral RNA was extracted from isolates,then the full-length genome was amplified by RT-PCR.The homology and phylogenetic analyses were made on the nucleotide sequences by bioinformatics softwares including ClastalX1.83 and MEGA6 etc.Ten strains of DENV-2 were harvested from dengue fever cases,of these,6 strains from Ruili city of Dehong prefecture and 4 from Jinghong city of Xishuangbanna prefecture,Yunnan province.Phylogenetic tree and homology analysis based on structural and non-structural protein genes showed that 5 strains of the experimental virus belonged to Asian I genotype (AG-I) and the other 5 strains belonged to Cosmopolitan genotype (CG).Among them,the AG-I strains were isolated from Ruili in 2013 and 2015,and CG strains were isolated from Jinghong in 2015 as well as they have a closer genetic relationship with the strains isolated from Southeast Asia.Compared with prototype strain (New Guinea-C) of DENV-2,E and NS5 nucleotide homology of the Yunnan strains were 93.38%~93.77% and 92.80%~94.74% respectively.Yunnan strains compared with US_Hawaii strain,there were 44 and 150 different sites in amino acid of structural and non-structural proteins respectively.Only 29 and 86 different sites in amino acid of structural and non-structural proteins were found when compared to New Guinea-C strain,respectively.DENV-2 AG-I and CG transmitted in southwestern border region of Yunnan and AG-I was prevalent in Ruili in 2013 and 2015,and CG was prevalent in Jinghong in 2015.They have genetic diversity but multiple transmission sources were from neighboring countries of Southeastern Asia.It is obvious different in amino acid sites of structural and non-structural proteins between Yunnan strains and New Guinea-C strain.Their main amino acid sites for antigenicity,pathogenic and virulence of both AG-I and CG genotypes were shown without significant difference.

OBJECTIVETo study on the efficacy, prognosis and security of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

METHODSTotally 72 HCC patients treated by HIFU from December 2009 to January 2011 were divided into two groups according to treatment methods: 40 cases in HIFU group, 32 cases in TACE + HIFU treatment group (combined group). Then set up a control group include 40 cases treated by only TACE in the same period (TACE group). The improvement of clinical symptoms, AFP, reduce rate of tumor volume, survival rate of 1 year after operation and postoperative complications in front and behind the treatment were analyzed.

RESULTSThere was no significant statistical difference on the improvement of clinical symptoms in all these three groups (P > 0.05) after treatment for HCC. There is no significant statistical difference also on reduce rate of tumor volume and decrease rate of AFP in both HIFU group (35.0%, 41.4%) and TACE group (37.5%, 41.9%) (χ² = 0.054, P = 0.816; χ² = 0.002, P = 0.965). Both reduce rate of tumor volume (62.5%) and decrease rate of AFP (72.0%) in combined group were better than HIFU group (χ² = 5.394, P = 0.020; χ² = 5.098, P = 0.024) and TACE group (37.5%, 41.9%) (χ² = 4.448, P = 0.035; χ² = 5.062, P = 0.024). Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that there was no significant statistical difference on short-term survival rate in the 3 groups. But the long-term survival rate of combined group was better than TACE group and HIFU group.

CONCLUSIONTACE combined with HIFU is a effective, safe and noninvasive treatment method to HCC.
