The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) has recently been proposed as a key player in the representation of itch stimuli. However, to date, little is known about the contribution of specific ACC interneuron populations to itch processing. Using c-Fos immunolabeling and in vivo Ca2+ imaging, we reported that both histamine and chloroquine stimuli-induced acute itch caused a marked enhancement of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)-expressing interneuron activity in the ACC. Behavioral data indicated that optogenetic and chemogenetic activation of these neurons reduced scratching responses related to histaminergic and non-histaminergic acute itch. Similar neural activity and modulatory role of these neurons were seen in mice with chronic itch induced by contact dermatitis. Together, this study highlights the importance of ACC VIP+ neurons in modulating itch-related affect and behavior, which may help us to develop novel mechanism-based strategies to treat refractory chronic itch in the clinic.

Objective:To investigate the correlation between psychological resilience and the risk of all-cause mortality in disabled older individuals. Methods:A total of 8, 089 disabled older adults were selected from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(1998-2018)after screening with the Katz index.Psychological resilience was assessed at baseline using a seven-item self-rating scale.Participants were followed up until 2018, with survival data being recorded.Restricted cubic spline regression and Cox proportional hazard models were employed to analyze the association between psychological resilience and all-cause mortality, as well as to explore the potential interaction between psychological resilience and levels of disability. Results:After adjusting for potential confounding factors, a linearly negative relationship was found between levels of psychological resilience and mortality risk( P-nonlinear 0.781).Stratified analyses by degree of disability revealed that for older adults with mild disability, a 1 standard deviation increase in psychological resilience was associated with a 12% decrease in mortality risk( HR=0.88, 95% CI: 0.83-0.94).However, no significant association was observed between psychological resilience and mortality risk in severely disabled participants.A significant interaction was noted between resilience levels and degree of disability( P-interaction=0.026). Conclusions:This study offers observational evidence supporting the importance of maintaining psychological resilience in reducing mortality risk among disabled older individuals, particularly those with mild disability. The findings highlight the potential benefits of psychological interventions for older adults with varying levels of functional decline.

【Objective】 To investigate the clinical characteristics and potential mechanism of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine-related myocarditis. 【Methods】 We made a systematic literature retrieval based on PubMed to search for all reports on COVID-19 vaccine-related myocarditis published by August 31, 2021. A total of 29 reports involving 71 patients with myocarditis were enrolled after screening. The patients’ demographic data, vaccination, clinical manifestations, biochemical and imaging results, treatments, and outcomes were extracted and summarized. The patients were divided into prior COVID (n=12) and non-prior COVID (n=59) according to their previous medical history. 【Results】 COVID vaccine-related myocarditis was more common in men (91.5%) and after the second dose of mRNA vaccine (81.7%). The average time to onset was 3 (1, 25) days, and the main symptoms included chest pain (94.4%), fever (45.1%), myalgia (26.8%), and shortness of breath (16.9%). Abnormal troponin level was present in almost all the patients, with a common elevation of C-reactive protein. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and colchicine were widely used in clinical treatment, and the symptoms of one-fifth of the patients were relieved after symptomatic therapy, with 1 to 2 weeks’ length of hospital stay. However, the risk of vaccine-related myocarditis was significantly increased in patients with previous COVID-19 infection, which was more common after the first dose of vaccine (58.3%) other than the second dose. And the clinical symptoms and outcomes were somewhat different from those without COVID-19 infection previously. 【Conclusion】 Myocarditis is one of the serious adverse events related to COVID-19 vaccine, with an overall relatively low incidence, mild clinical severity, and favorable prognosis. Vaccine-related myocarditis may be a combined result of primed immune system and individual susceptibility after infection with COVID-19.

Objective To explore the correlation between gait parameters at 14 days and knee function and quality of life at 3 months after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods Eighteen patients who underwent TKA were analyzed by using three-dimensional gait analysis system to observe their gait parameters. Knee joint function and life quality of the patients at 3 months after TKA were evaluated with WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index) and SF-36 (short form 36-item health survey scores) assessment scale and their correlations were analyzed simultaneously. Results At 14 days after TKA, single support time (SST) and peak knee flexion at swing (PKF) of the operated side of the leg were significantly smaller than those of the healthy side of the leg. The knee flexion angle at mid-stance (MKF) and knee valgus angle at mid-stance (MKV) of the operated side of the leg were significantly larger than those of the healthy side of the leg. There was a moderate negative correlation between the spatiotemporal parameters of the operated side of the leg and the WOMAC score during gait, while a high correlation between the WOMAC score and peak knee flexion at swing (PKF), MKF and MKV. Except for the step length and forward velocity, the other gait parameters were significantly correlated with SF-36 life quality score. The single support time (SST) and PKF had a highly positive correlation, while the MKF and MKV had a moderate negative correlation with SF-36 life quality score. Conclusions The SST, MKF, MKV and PKF in postoperative early gait analysis (14 days) results can be used as the effective indicators to judge postoperative knee function and rehabilitation efficacy of life quality after TKA surgery.

Objective To study the relationship between the genetic polymorphism of interleukine-6 (IL-6)-174 and the response to benazepril treatment in patients with hypertensive renal damage. Methods Two hundred and eighty-four patients with hypertension were enrolled in this study. The hypertensive renal damage was defined by the measurement of urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER). One hundred and sixty healthy subjects were enrolled simultaneously as control group. Blood samples were obtained from all the subjects, and plasma levels of IL-6 and the genotype of gene IL-6-174 were detected. The patients with hypertensive renal damage were treated with benazepril for 16 weeks. The responses were evaluated by the changes of UAER level to benazepril in different genotypes. Results Genotype CC was the most common of the gene IL-6-174 in patients with hypertension, followed by GG and GC successively, with the G/C allele frequency of 47%and 53%(P<0.05), while in patients with hypertensive renal damage, GG was the most common genotype of the gene IL-6-174, followed by GC and CC successively, with the G/C allele frequency of 68%and 32%(P<0.05). After benazepril treatment, the UAER was decreased most in patients with genotype CC, followed by GC and GG successively ( P<0.05). Conclusion The G allele frequency of the gene IL-6-174 is related with hypertensive renal damage in patients in Ningxia, with GG as the most common genotype. The patients with CC genotype have the best response to benazepril treatment, with most decreased UAER.
