Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes and a leading cause of vision loss globally.Although anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)therapies remain the clinical mainstay, a significant proportion of patients exhibit suboptimal responses, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic targets. Calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP), a multifunctional neuropeptide, is gaining attention due to its roles in vascular regulation, neuroprotection, and immunomodulation. This review summarizes the biological characteristics of CGRP and its receptor-mediated signaling, and explores emerging evidence of CGRP's involvement in DR through its vasodilatory effects and regulatory effect on neurodegenerative disorders and release of inflammatory cytokines. Furthermore, the therapeutic potential of targeting the CGRP pathway in DR is evaluated, especially in cases unresponsive to VEGF inhibition. Despite currently the lack of CGRP-targeted drugs applied for DR, the peptide demonstrates efficacy and safety in other diseases, such as migraine, suggests promising translational opportunities. However, CGRP may play a dual role in different pathological stages of DR, thus its treatment strategy needs to be considered precisely. Future research elucidating the precise mechanisms of CGRP in DR may pave the way for innovative intervention strategies.

Recent studies show that graphene and its derivatives have good physical and chemical properties and biocompatibility,and can promote cell proliferation and stem cell differentiation.The process of pulp regeneration involves the proliferation and differen-tiation of seed cells,suggesting that graphene and its derivatives have the potential applications perspective in pulp regeneration.How-ever,it has not been reported whether the physical and chemical properties of graphene and its derivatives are suitable for pulp cavity or root canal environment and its effect on pulp regeneration seed cells.This article reviews the physical and chemical properties,cyto-logical effects and the application of graphene and its derivatives in tissue engineering,and provides a basis for its application in dental pulp regeneration.

Objective: To discuss the functional recovery after recurrent laryngeal nerve injury (RLNI) on different electromyography thresholds during thyroid surgery. Methods: The prospective experimentally were induced in 12 acute recurrent laryngeal traction animals (porcine) from December 2014 to December 2015, the amplitude and latency of electromyography, even time course during RLNI and recovery of 24 recurrent laryngeal nerves(RLN) were continuous intraoperative neuromonitoring(IONM), including 12 RLN releasing traction after 50% amplitude decrease (AD) and other 12 RLN after 70% AD. The IONM data and postoperative laryngoscopy result of 1 119 thyroid cancer patients, involved 237 male and 882 female, aged 45.2 years in average, who underwent thyroidectomy in Department of Thyroid Surgery, China-Japan Union Hospital Affiliated to Jilin University from July to December in 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The porcine model of traction lesion showed that the time of 50% AD was (59±4) s, latency increase (LI) was (8± 4)%, was recovered in 10 minutes; the time of 70% AD was (75±6)s, LI was (11±5)% , was recovered (43±23)% of baseline even during 20 minutes. Among the IONM of 1 632 recurrent laryngeal nerves in clinic, the mechanism of 64 RLNI is clear, including traction injury accounted for 62.5% (40/64), thermal injury was 12.5% (8/64), compression injury was 23.4% (15/64), clamp injury was 1.6% (1/64). When 50%≤AD <70% (8.8%), the rate of abnormal vocal fold movement (AVCM) was 8.8% (6/68), while AD≥70% (37.2%), the rate of AVCM was 37.2% (19/51), but LOS was 5/13. Conclusion Releasing the injury before AD≥50% in surgery, is a more effective indicator to avoid postoperative AVCM and promote nerve function recovery.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of group psychological counseling on the self-confidence and social adaptation of burn patients during the course of rehabilitation.

METHODSSixty-four burn patients conforming to the inclusion criteria and hospitalized from January 2012 to January 2014 in Xijing Hospital were divided into trial group and control group according to the method of rehabilitation, with 32 cases in each group. Patients in the two groups were given ordinary rehabilitation training for 8 weeks, and the patients in trial group were given a course of group psychological counseling in addition. The Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale was used to evaluate the changes in self-confidence levels, and the number of patients with inferiority complex, normal feeling, self-confidence, and over self-confidence were counted before and after treatment. The Abbreviated Burn-Specific Health Scale was used to evaluate physical function, psychological function, social relationship, health condition, and general condition before and after treatment to evaluate the social adaptation of patients. Data were processed with t test, chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon test.

RESULTS(1) After treatment, the self-confidence levels of patients in trial group were significantly higher than those in control group (Z = -2.573, P < 0.05). Among trial group, the number of patients with inferiority complex was 17 (53.1%) before treatment, which was decreased to 6 (18.8%) after treatment; the number of patients with normal feeling and that of self-confidence were 8 (25.0%) and 4 (12.5%) before treatment, which were respectively increased to 13 (40.6%) and 10 (31.3%) after treatment. The overall difference in trial group was obvious between before and after treatment (Z = -4.123, P < 0.01) . There was no obvious difference in self-confidence level of patients in control group between before and after treatment (Z = -1.000, P > 0.05). (2) After treatment, the scores of psychological function, social relationship, health condition, and general condition were (87 ± 3), (47.8 ± 3.6), (49 ± 3), and (239 ± 10) points in trial group, which were significantly higher than those in control group [(79 ± 4), (38.3 ± 5.6), (46 ± 4), and (231 ± 9) points, with t values respectively -8.635, -8.125, -3.352, -3.609, P values below 0.01]. After treatment, the scores of physical function, psychological function, social relationship, health condition, and general condition in trial group were significantly higher than those before treatment (with t values from -33.282 to -19.515, P values below 0.05). The scores of physical function, psychological function, health condition, and general condition in control group after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment (with t values from -27.137 to -17.790, P values below 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSGroup psychological counseling combined with ordinary rehabilitation training give rise to significant effects on self-confidence level and social adaptation for burn patients.
