Soil cadmium pollution can adversely affect the cultivation of the ornamental plant, Coleus scutellarioides. Upon cadmium contamination of the soil, the growth of C. scutellarioides is impeded, and it may even succumb to the toxic accumulation of cadmium. In this study, we investigated the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the adaptation of C. scutellarioides to cadmium stress, by measuring the physiological metabolism and the degree of root damage of C. scutellarioides, with Aspergillus oryzae as the test fungi. The results indicated that cadmium stress increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT), and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and proline (Pro) within the cells of C. scutellarioides, but inhibited mycorrhizal infestation rate, root vigour and growth rate to a great degree. With the same cadmium concentration, the inoculation of AMF significantly improved the physiological indexes of C. scutellarioides. The maximum decrease of MDA content was 42.16%, and the content of secondary metabolites rosemarinic acid and anthocyanosides could be increased by up to 27.43% and 25.72%, respectively. Meanwhile, the increase of root vigour was as high as 35.35%, and the DNA damage of the root system was obviously repaired. In conclusion, the inoculation of AMF can promote the accumulation of secondary metabolites, alleviate root damage, and enhance the tolerance to cadmium stress in C. scutellarioides.

Objective:To summarize the experience of designing transplanted hair based on the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics for the treatment of eyebrow defects after burns. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data of the patients with eyebrow defects after burns who treated at Hair Transplantation Center, Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences between January 2011 and September 2023. The location and appearance of eyebrow were designed according to the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics. The follicles were extracted by incision of scalps strips and follicle unit excision (FUE) on the donor area of the occipital region near the posterior hairline or the posterior ear hairline. Scalps with scars that needed to be removed or had "dog ear" deformities following scalp expansion surgery that needed to be repaired were also be used as donor sites. The follicles were divided as follicle units (FUs) including single hair. The recipient area was punched with syringe needle of 22 or 22 G to subcutaneous superficial layer. Then the hair shaft was clamped with microforceps and the hairs were transplanted to the defective area to restore the appearance of eyebrow. The density, morphology, direction and scars of the donor sites were observed by following-ups.Results:A total of 197 patients with 282 eyebrows were recruited. There were 133 males and 64 females. The average age was 33.7 (9 to 62) years. There were 17 patients with skin graft transplantation in the eyebrow arch, 33 with flap and expanded flap repair, 36 with eyelid skin grafting, 111 with burn scar healing. A total of 51 patients had complete eyebrow defects on both sides, and 34 had partial defects. Sixty-five patients had complete eyebrow defects on single side, and 47 had partial defects. The amount of hair transplantation was from 53 to 600 FUs on 282 eyebrows. Seventy-five patients extracted follicles with incision of scalps strips and 122 with FUE. The patients were followed up for 9 months to 10 years. Folliculitis were found in 17 patients and completely cured by 75% alcohol disinfection. Nine patients with insufficient density underwent hair transplantation for a second time to increase the density of hairs one year later. And the implanted hairs grew well, which were similar to the shape and direction of normal eyebrows. Transplanted hairs of the rest patients grew well. The direction and appearance were satisfied. The scar in the donor site was not obvious. Conclusion:The transplanted hair should be designed primarily based on the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics for the treatment of eyebrow defects after burns. Then the position of the eyebrow and the bilateral symmetry should be considered. The ideal effect of eyebrow reconstruction would depend on the full consideration of the receipt site.

Objectives:To analyze the consistency of evaluating left ventricular hemodynamics (HDF) based on single plane and multi plane cine sequences of magnetic resonance mitral valve orifice. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 48 healthy adults, and two methods were used to measure the mitral valve diameter and calculate HDF parameters. The first method was to measure the diameter of the mitral valve opening in the left ventricular three chamber cine sequence; The second method is to measure the mitral valve diameter using cine sequences of two chamber, three chamber, and four chamber hearts, and then take the average value. Paired t-tests were used to compare the differences in HDF measured by two methods, and Pearson correlation coefficient ( r), intra group correlation coefficient ( ICC), and Bland-Altman analysis were used to test the consistency and reproducibility of the two methods. Results:The root mean square (RMS) of longitudinal HDF calculated using single plane and multi plane mitral valve diameters were [(17.28±4.41)% vs (17.21±4.61)%] ( P=0.379) for the entire cardiac cycle, [(21.45±5.54)% vs (21.49±5.68)%] ( P=0.646) for systolic phase, and [(12.78±4.10)% vs (12.54±4.24)%] ( P=0.106) for diastolic phase, respectively. The difference in the calculation results of HDF parameters related to ventricular function was not statistically significant (all P>0.05), and there was good consistency ( r=0.924-0.996, ICC=0.924-0.995). The two HDF parameters related to atrial function were sensitive to the measurement method of mitral valve orifice diameter [RMS of longitudinal HDF during active atrial emptying: (3.26±1.51)% vs (3.32±1.55)%, P=0.006; longitudinal HDF pulse during active atrial emptying: (-2.60±1.28)% vs (-2.76±1.30)%, P<0.001]. Conclusions:The ventricular function related HDF parameters obtained from the analysis of mitral valve orifice diameter using single plane and multi plane methods have good consistency, and can be evaluated using relatively simple single plane methods for left ventricular HDF.

Normal human blood pressure has a certain circadian rhythm, which is high during the day and low at night, and two peaks and one valley of the arytenoid change. The theory of opening-closing-pivot is an essential part of the yin and yang theory in traditional Chinese medicine, which reflects the law of qi movement changes of the three yin and three yang. According to "time to heal six channels" in Shanghan Lun,the opening-closing-pivot of three yin and three yang have their own time. Following certain time laws, the ascending, descending, exiting, and entering of the yin and yang qi movement conform to the circadian rhythm, which is the basis for maintaining the normal circadian rhythm of human blood pressure. Jueyin closing and shaoyang pivot mainly regulate morning blood pressure, whereas yangming closing, taiyin opening, and shaoyin pivot mainly regulate night blood pressure. The opening-closing-pivot of three yin and three yang coordinate and influence each other to maintain the stability of the circadian rhythm of blood pressure. The abnormal opening-closing-pivot can lead to the disturbance of the circadian rhythm of blood pressure, which primarily manifests as early morning hypertension caused by jueyin closing and shaoyang pivot failure, and night hypertension caused by yangming closing, taiyin opening and shaoyin pivot failure. By adjusting the movement of opening-closing-pivot of three yin and three yang, the blood pressure of corresponding period can be regulated. Combined with Western medical research,a new idea and method of regulating the circadian rhythm of blood pressure with traditional Chinese medicine is put forward.
