Farrerol is a dihydroflavone compound extracted from the dried leaves of Rhododendron dauricum belonging to the Ericaceae family. This article systematically reviews relevant research on farrerol both domestically and internationally， summarizes its pharmacological activities and mechanisms of action， and finds that it exerts cardiovascular and cerebrovascular protective effects by maintaining the homeostasis of vascular endothelial function and inhibiting vascular intimal hyperplasia； exerts renal protective effects by activating the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 （Nrf2） signaling pathway to reduce renal damage； exerts liver protective effects by inhibiting the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling pathway， activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway， improving insulin resistance， and reducing lipid deposition in the liver； exerts neuroprotective effects by activating the Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway， inhibiting the Toll-like receptor 4 and cyclic GMP-AMP synthase/stimulator of interferon genes signaling pathways to reduce neuroinflammatory damage； exerts bone protective effects by promoting tendon formation and inhibiting osteoclast differentiation； exerts antitumor effects by inducing tumor cell apoptosis and weakening tumor cell invasion and metastasis； and exerts antibacterial effects by downregulating α -toxin expression， interfering with β -lactamase/penicillin-binding protein 2a （PBP2a）， and inhibiting PBP2a oligomerization. Currently， research on the pharmacological effects of farrerol is still mainly focused on animal and cell experiments. Further mechanistic studies and clinical trials are needed to provide theoretical basis for its new drug development and clinical application.

ObjectiveTo systematically investigate the medication rules of chicken-derived medicinals for treating children enuresis in ancient Chinese medical classicals. MethodsThe China Medical Classics V5.0 database was searched to identify formulas and passages containing chicken-derived medicinals for pediatric enuresis. A database was established using Microsoft Excel 2021 to extract information including formulas， therapeutic categories， natures， flavors， channel entry， processing methods， dosage forms， and administration methods. Frequency analysis was performed， while association rule analysis and cluster analysis were conducted using R software. Gephi 0.10.1 software was used for complex network analysis. ResultsA total of 171 records were included， comprising 36 single-herb formulas and 135 compound formulas， sourced from 64 classical medical monographs. The identified chicken-derived medicinals included jichang （Intestinum Galli）， jineijin （Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli）， jigan （Gallina Hepar）， jishibai （Faeces Galli Albi）， jisu （Ingluvies Galli）， jiheling （Pluma Alae Galli）， and jiweimao （Chicken tail feathers）. The top three frequently used single herbs were jichang （17 times）， jineijin （8 times）， and jiheling （5 times）. Among compound prescriptions， the three most frequently recorded formulas were Jineijin Powder （鸡内金散， 43 times）， Jichang Powder （鸡肠散， 25 times）， and Guigan Pills （桂肝丸， 24 times）， with jineijin， jichang， and jigan being the predominant chicken-derived medicinals. When converting the daily dosage of chicken-derived medicines into modern dosage units， the dose ranged from 0.53 g to 33.57 g for jineijin， with 4.48 g being the most frequently used dose， and from 0.25 g to 30.00 g for jichang， with 17.90 g being the most frequently used dose. Chicken-derived medicinals were mostly used after processing， commonly employing burning （68 times）， roasting/ stir-baking （37 times）， and calcining （24 times） to preserve properties. Powders （117 times）， pills （45 times）， and decoctions （9 times） were the principal dosage forms， and administration with wine （70 times） was the most common method. The most frequently used herbal pair was jineijin and roucongrong （Herba Cistanches）， while the core prescription combinations were Tusizi Powder （菟丝子散）， Yangshi Jichang Powder （杨氏鸡肠散）， and Rongxiang Pill （茸香丸）. ConclusionChicken-derived medicinals ， such as jichang and jineijin， are commonly processed by burning or roasting before use in the treatment of enuresis. They are often combined with longgu （Fossilia Ossis Mastodi）， muli （Concha Ostreae）， sangpiaoxiao （Oötheca Mantidis）， roucongrong and rougui （Cortex Cinnamomi） to warm and tonify the kidney qi， arrest enuresis and emission with astringents. Pills and powders are the predominant dosage forms and are commonly administered before meals with wine or salted water.

Mitochondria serve as multifunctional powerhouses within cells, coordinating essential biological activities that are critical for cell viability, including material metabolism, signal transduction, and the maintenance of homeostasis. They support cells in adapting to complex and fluctuating environments. Oocytes, being the largest cells in multicellular organisms, contain a high number of mitochondria with unique structural characteristics. Mitochondria play active roles in the development and maturation of oocytes. A decline in mitochondrial function negatively affects both the quality and quantity of oocytes, thereby contributing to ovarian aging. However, the specific mechanisms through which mitochondrial dysfunction influences the progression of ovarian aging and impacts reproductive longevity remain unclear. Furthermore, medical strategies aimed at rejuvenating mitochondria to restore ovarian reserve and improve female reproductive potential may open new avenues for clinical treatment. In this review, we summarize the current understanding and key evidence regarding the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in ovarian aging and present emerging medical approaches targeting mitochondria to alleviate premature ovarian aging and enhance reproductive performance.

Objective:To construct fused cancer cell/neutrophil membrane-coated polydopamine nanoparticles chelated with manganese ions (Ⅱ) (PMNP@FMs) and explore the potential for targeted pancreatic cancer fluorescence imaging and MRI.Methods:Cancer cell membranes fused with neutrophil membranes were encapsulated on the surface of polydopamine nanoparticles chelated with manganese ions (Ⅱ) (PMNPs) to prepare PMNP@FMs. The morphology, structure, and MRI performance of the product were characterized. The cytotoxicity of PMNP@FMs towards human pancreatic cancer cells (PANC-1) and normal human pancreatic ductal epithelial cells (hTERT-HPNE) was evaluated using cell counting kit (CCK)-8, and in vivo toxicity was assessed in healthy mice. PANC-1 pancreatic cancer xenograft nude mouse models were established for in vivo fluorescence imaging and MRI. Data were analyzed using the independent-sample t test, repeated measures analysis of variance and the least significance difference method. Results:PMNP@FMs exhibited a core-shell structure with a diameter of (112.81±8.64) nm, negative surface charge, and good dispersibility. The T 1 relaxivity of PMNPs was 18.81±0.22, which was 4.1 times higher than that of gadopentetate dimeglumine (Gd-DTPA) (4.55±0.24; t=75.54, P<0.001). Co-culture of PMNPs and PMNP@FMs with hTERT-HPNE and PANC-1 cells for 24 h resulted in cell viability above 90% within the concentration range of 0-500 μg/ml. PMNP@FMs did not affect mouse survival and showed no apparent organ damage. In vivo fluorescence imaging and MRI revealed that PMNP@FMs accumulated highly in tumors and reached the peak 24 h post intravenous administration (relative MR signal: 1.35±0.01, fluorescence intensity: (1.20±0.25)×10 10), surpassing the peak observed in the control group (1.22±0.01, (3.87±0.50)×10 9;F values: 11.03-188.01, t values: 18.20, 5.64, all P<0.05), with hepatic metabolism being the primary route of clearance. Conclusion:PMNP@FMs demonstrate a potential for targeted pancreatic cancer fluorescence imaging and MRI, offering promising prospect for precise diagnosis of early-stage pancreatic cancer.

Objective:To investigate the features of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in children with sepsis and evaluate the value of these cells in combination with multiple indicators in the diagnosis of pediatric sepsis.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on 86 sepsis children and 83 children with local infection admitted to Hebei Children′s Hospital from October 2022 to October 2024. Baseline clinical data, peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets, and other laboratory indicators were compared between the two groups. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to evaluate the independent risk factors correlated with the initiation of sepsis. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to evaluate the value of each independent risk factor for diagnosing sepsis.Results:The thrombin time, the absolute counts of NK, CD3 + T, CD4 + T, and CD8 + T cells, the levels of IgG and IgM, and the counts of lymphocytes and platelets were lower in the sepsis children than in the children with local infection. However, the prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time, the levels of fibrinogen, direct bilirubin, and C-reactive protein (CRP) were higher in the sepsis group (all P<0.05). The variables screened by LASSO regression were analyzed by the multivariate logistic regression, and the results showed that PT, absolute CD4 + T cell count, and the levels of IgM and CRP were independent risk factors for sepsis. The ROC analysis indicated that the area under the ROC curve (AUC) for PT, absolute CD4 + T cell count, and IgM and CRP levels when used individually in diagnosing sepsis was 0.729, 0.593, 0.605, and 0.795, respectively. The AUC for the four indexes when used in combination for diagnosing sepsis reached 0.822, showing greater superiority over that of the single index. Conclusions:The combined measurement of PT, absolute CD4 + T cell count, and the levels of IgM and CRP can improve the diagnostic efficacy for sepsis in children. Early monitoring of these indexes facilitates the assessment of the condition in children suffering from sepsis.

Animal experiments are an essential component of life sciences and medical research. However, the external validity and reliability of individual animal studies are frequently challenged by inherent limitations such as small sample sizes, high design heterogeneity, and poor reproducibility, which impede the effective translation of research findings into clinical practice. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis represent a key methodology for integrating existing evidence and enhancing the robustness of conclusions. Currently, however, the application of systematic reviews and meta-analysis in the field of animal experiments lacks standardized guidelines for their conduct and reporting, resulting in inconsistent quality and, to some extent, diminishing their evidence value. To address this issue, this paper aims to systematically delineate the reporting process for systematic reviews and meta-analysis of animal experiments and to propose a set of standardized recommendations that are both scientific and practical. The article's scope encompasses the entire process, from the preliminary preparatory phase [including formulating the population， intervention， comparison and outcome （PICO） question, assessing feasibility, and protocol pre-registration] to the key writing points for each section of the main report. In the core methods section, the paper elaborates on how to implement literature searches, establish eligibility criteria, perform data extraction, and assess the risk of bias, based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis （PRISMA) statement, in conjunction with relevant guidelines and tools such as Animal Research： Reporting of in Vivo Experiments （ARRIVE) and a risk of bias assessment tool developed by the Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory Animal Experimentation (SYRCLE). For the presentation of results, strategies are proposed for clear and transparent display using flow diagrams and tables of characteristics. The discussion section places particular emphasis on how to scientifically interpret pooled effects, thoroughly analyze sources of heterogeneity, evaluate the impact of publication bias, and cautiously discuss the validity and limitations of extrapolating findings from animal studies to clinical settings. Furthermore, this paper recommends adopting the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology to comprehensively grade the quality of evidence. Through a modular analysis of the entire reporting process, this paper aims to provide researchers in the field with a clear and practical guide, thereby promoting the standardized development of systematic reviews and meta-analysis of animal experiments and enhancing their application value in scientific decision-making and translational medicine.

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of hepatitis E in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province from 2006 to 2024, so as to provide the evidence for the prevention and control of hepatitis E. Methods: Data on hepatitis E incidence in Shaoxing City from 2006 to 2024 were collected through the Surveillance System of China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. The epidemiological characteristics were analyzed using descriptive epidemiological methods. The trend in hepatitis E incidence was analyzed using the average annual percent change (AAPC) and annual percent change (APC). The spatial-temporal clustering characteristics of hepatitis E incidence were identified using spatial-temporal scanning analysis. Results: A total of 2 408 hepatitis E cases were reported in Shaoxing City from 2006 to 2024, with an average annual reported incidence of 2.55/100 000. The overall trend was not statistically significant (AAPC=3.181%, P>0.05). Specifically, it showed an upward trend from 2006 to 2011 (APC=17.371%, P<0.05), a downward trend from 2011 to 2019 (APC=-12.497%, P<0.05), and an upward trend from 2019 to 2024 (APC=18.076%, P<0.05). The epidemic season of hepatitis E was from January to May, with seasonal indices of 122.09%, 118.60%, 145.02%, 129.57%, and 106.15%, respectively. The top three average annual reported incidences were identified in Zhuji City, Xinchang County, and Shengzhou City, with rates of 4.18/100 000, 2.85/100 000, and 2.74/100 000, respectively. The average annual reported incidence of hepatitis E was higher in males than in females (3.52/100 000 vs. 1.56/100 000, P<0.05). A relatively large number of hepatitis E cases were reported among individuals aged 40-<70 years, with 1 639 cases (68.06%). Among them, the group aged 60-<70 years had the highest average annual reported incidence of hepatitis E, at 4.92/100 000. Farmers constituted the predominant occupational group, accounting for 1 515 cases (62.92%). Spatial-temporal scanning analysis identified two clusters in Shaoxing City from 2006 to 2024. The class Ⅰ cluster was located in Shengzhou City, with aggregation time from January 1, 2011 to May 1, 2014. The class Ⅱ cluster was located in Xinchang County, with aggregation time from December 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013. Conclusions The reported incidence of hepatitis E in Shaoxing City from 2006 to 2024 exhibited a pattern of an initial increase, followed by a decrease, and then a subsequent rise. The disease demonstrated higher prevalence during the winter and spring seasons. Key populations for targeted control and prevention include males, individuals aged 40-<70 years, and farmers. Shengzhou City and Xinchang County were identified as high-risk areas.

ObjectiveTo investigate the potential mechanism of Liangxue Tuizi Formula （凉血退紫方， LXTZF） in treating Henoch-Schönlein Purpura （HSP） by examining its regulatory effect on neutrophil extracellular trap （NETs） dysregulation via the rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma kinase （RAF）/mitogen-activated protein kinase （MEK）/extracellular signal-regulated kinase （ERK） signaling pathway. MethodsSeventy Wistar rats were randomly allocated into a blank control group （n=14） and a modeling group （n=56）. Rats in the modelling group underwent an eight-week modelling period to establish HSP rat models with blood-heat syndrome via modified ovalbumin （OVA） induction method combined with oral administration of heat-property Chinese herbal medicine. Fifty successfully modeled rats were subsequently randomly divided into five groups （n=10 per group）， model group， compound glycyrrhizin group， LXTZF group， RAF inhibitor group， and LXTZF + RAF agonist group. Additionally， 10 rats were selected from the original blank control group for the final experiment. From the 11th week of modelling， rats in the blank control group and the model group received 1 ml/（100 g·d） ultrapure water via oral administration， in addition to 0.5 ml/（kg·d） 0.9% sodium chloride solution via intraperitoneal injection. The LXTZF group and the compound glycyrrhizin group received 7.5 g/（kg·d） LXTZF granule suspension via gavage， 13.5 mg/（kg·d） compound glycyrrhizin suspension via gavage， respectively. The RAF inhibitor group received 1 mg/（kg·d） GW5074 suspension via intraperitoneal injection and ultrapure water via oral administration； the LXTZF + RAF agonist group received 7.5 g/（kg·d） LXTZF granule suspension via gavage and 1 mg/（kg·d） paclitaxel suspension via intraperitoneal injection. All administrations were performed once daily for 4 weeks. After intervention， skin tissue histopathology was examined by hematoxylin and eosin （H&E） staining， immunoglobulin A （IgA） deposition was assessed via immunofluorescence， serum levels of neutrophil elastase （NE）， tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α）， and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 （VCAM-1） were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）， serum myeloperoxidase （MPO） level was determined by a colorimetric assay； the mRNA expression levels of RAF， MEK， and ERK in skin tissue were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction （RT-qPCR）； and the protein expression of RAF， MEK， ERK， as well as phosphorylated MEK （p-MEK） and phosphorylated ERK （p-ERK）， were analyzed by Western Blot. ResultsSkin tissue in the blank control group rats remained normal， whereas the model group exhibited neutrophil infiltration and haemorrhage with red blood cell rupture. In all drug intervention groups， neutrophil infiltration and haemorrhagic exudation reduced markedly， with LXTZF group demonstrating the most pronounced improvement. Compared with the blank control group， rats in the model group exhibited enhanced IgA fluorescence intensity in skin tissue， elevated serum levels of NE， MPO， TNF-α and VCAM-1， increased mRNA expression of RAF， MEK， ERK1 and ERK2， as well as heightened RAF protein levels and p-MEK/MEK and p-ERK/ERK ratios （P＜0.05）. Compared with the model group， the drug intervention groups exhibited reduced IgA fluorescence intensity in skin tissue， along with decreased serum levels of NE， MPO， TNF-α， and VCAM-1 （P＜0.05）. In LXTZF group and RAF inhibition groups， reduced mRNA expression of RAF， MEK， ERK1， and ERK2 was observed in rat skin tissue， alongside decreased RAF protein levels and reduced p-MEK/MEK and p-ERK/ERK ratios （P＜0.05）. Compared with LXTZF + RAF agonist group， the compound glycyrrhizin group， LXTZF group， and RAF inhibitior group exhibited reduced IgA fluorescence intensity in skin tissue， decreased serum NE， MPO， TNF-α， and VCAM-1 levels， and decreased MEK mRNA expression and p-MEK/MEK ratio （P＜0.05）. ConclusionThe potential mechanism by which LXTZF treats Henoch-Schönlein purpura with blood heat syndrome may involve blocking the RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway in skin tissue， and suppressing excessive formation of NETs， thereby reducing IgA deposition in dermal microvessels and attenuating systemic inflammatory responses.
