Background Ozone (O3), a key air pollutant, significantly contributes to cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality, with particularly pronounced effects in the elderly. Objective To explore the association between acute O3 exposure and mortality from CVD and its subtypes in the elderly population in Jinan, and to investigate the modifying effects of gender, age, and seasonal factors on O3-related effects, as well as to clarify the interaction with other air pollutants. Methods Daily mortality data for CVD, air pollutants, and meteorological parameters were collected in Jinan from 2015 to 2023. Generalized additive models (GAM) combined with distributed lag nonlinear models (DLNM) were used to analyze the lag effects of acute O3 exposure on mortalities from CVD, ischemic heart disease (IHD), and stroke in elderly individuals aged ≥60 years. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore effect differences by gender (male vs. female), age (non-high-aged elderly<80 years vs. high-aged elderly ≥80 years), and season (warm season: April–September vs. cold season: October–March of the following year). Relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI), attributable proportion of interaction (API), and Synergy index (SI) were used to assess the interactions of O3 with PM2.5 and NO2. Results During the study period, the mean daily concentration of ozone reached (105.01 ± 54.18) μg·m−3, exceeding the Grade I limit value specified in Ambient Air Quality Standard (GB 3095–2012). The incidence of leukemia,a malignant cancer originating from the hematopoietic system,is increasing annually.Although traditional treatment method such as chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation have improved patient survival rates to some extent, serious side effects, drug tolerance, and high recurrence rates remain. In recent years, studies have shown that the gut microbiota and its metabolites play an important role in the occurrence, development, and complications of leukemia.Imbalance of the gut microbiota can lead to decreased immune function and an intensified inflammatory response, which is a key factor driving disease progression. Some metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids, enhance immune function and improve patient prognosis through intestinal barrier repair, while others, such as hydrogen sulfide and bile acids, show potential anti-tumor effects exerted through regulation of tumor cell apoptosis and immune balance.Traditional Chinese medicine aimed at regulating the structure of the gut microbiota and its metabolites has shown great potential in alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy for leukemia. This review covers the role of the gut microbiota and its metabolites in the occurrence, development, and complications of leukemia, and explores treatment strategies for regulating the microbiota, including fecal microbiota transplantation, probiotics, and traditional Chinese medicine intervention. We anticipate that this review will serve as a reference for improving the treatment and prognosis of leukemia.

Objective:To explore the potential effects of sleep deprivation on lactic acid metabolism and cognitive function in mice. Methods:Twelve SPF-grade BALB/c mice were randomly divided into a normal control group and a sleep deprivation group using a random number table, with 6 mice in each group. The horizontal platform method was used to establish a mouse sleep deprivation model. The Morris water maze was employed to assess cognitive ability, including initial quadrant residence time, platform crossing times, escape latency, and total swimming distance. Serum lactic acid levels and inflammatory factors such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were also detected. Results:There was no significant difference in body weight between the two groups before and after sleep deprivation (all P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the sleep deprivation group showed prolonged residence time in the initial quadrant, significantly shorter residence time in the target quadrant, and fewer platform crossings (all P<0.05). Escape latency and total swimming distance in the sleep deprivation group were significantly longer than those in the control group (all P<0.01). Serum lactic acid levels and inflammatory factors IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α in the sleep deprivation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusions:Sleep deprivation impairs cognitive ability in mice, accompanied by significant increases in lactic acid and inflammatory factors.

Objective:This study was performed to assess the effect of glycemic control on atrial fibrillation recurrence rates after heart surgery concomitant with Cox-Maze Ⅳ ablation. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on 317 diabetic patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent cardiac surgery combined with Cox-Maze Ⅳ ablation in our hospital from May 2016 to February 2020. The patients were followed up for(37.7±27.7) months, and the data of atrial fibrillation recurrence and clinical outcome were collected and compared. The limited cubic spline model was used to analyze the dose-relationship between HbA1c level and the recurrence of atrial fibrillation. The univariate and multivariate Cox proportional regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors of recurrent atrial fibrillation after Cox-Maze Ⅳ ablation. Results:Higher glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c) at the time of ablation was associated with higher post-ablation recurrence rates. The cumulative survival freedom from atrial fibrillation recurrence for patients with HbA1c ≥7.4% at time of operation at 12, 24, 36 and 48 months were 96.3%、75.8%、52.7% and 35.7%, respectively( P<0.001). Besides, the rates of all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality and rehospitalization were significantly lower in patients with HbA1c<7.4%(1.7% vs. 6.3%, P=0.03; 1.1% vs. 5.6%, P=0.02 and 5.7% vs. 20.4%, P=0.01). The multivariate Cox regression model showed that HbA1c was an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation recurrence( P<0.05). Conclusion:Higher preoperative HbA1c levels were associated with increased recurrence of atrial fibrillation and adverse clinical outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery combined with Cox-Maze Ⅳ ablation.

Objective:To simulate the spot characteristics of light emitting diode (LED) array light sources used in non-invasive phototherapy at different distances and to provide reference for the formulation of clinical non-invasive phototherapy treatment schemes. Methods:The ray tracing module in Comsol software was used to simulate the spot characteristics of LED light sources with different power and arrays at different distances, and the fitting curve was analyzed. The model was verified by the actual LED spot measurement, and the feasibility of the treatment scheme was verified by the mouse back wound model. Results:Under the irradiation of 2×2 LED light source array, with the increase of the vertical distance from the light source, the area of the effective area and the treatment area gradually increased, the power density value in the area gradually decreased, and the uniformity gradually increased. These changes showed a linear or binomial correlation with the vertical distance. The model was improved based on the actual LED light spot, and the new model consisted of an array of 18 LEDs as the light source, and the treatment area showed better uniformity and power density values. The simulated optical parameters were used to treat mice’s wounds with light, and the results showed that light treatment could promote wound healing. Conclusions:The established medical LED array light source spot characteristics simulation can provide a reference for the development of clinical non-invasive phototherapy protocols, thus helping the clinic select the appropriate LED power and array distribution according to the treatment needs and also providing a basis for the development of medical LED array light sources.
