Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(4):553-557
Objective:
To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of category C intestinal infectious diseases among children and adolescents in Shenzhen from 2012 to 2024 and the association with meteorological factors, so as to provide a scientific basis for the targeted prevention and control of infectious diseases for children and adolescents.
Methods:
Using data from the "Infectious Disease Reporting Information Management System" of the "China Disease Prevention and Control Information System" covering the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2024, the study analyzed clinical and confirmed cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease, other infectious diarrhea, and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis among individuals aged 6-19 years old to describe demographic and temporal characteristics. It used Joinpoint regression to calculate the average annual percent change (AAPC) and annual percent change (APC) to analyze incidence trends, and Spearman s correlation was combined to generalize linear models so as to assess the association between category C intestinal infectious diseases and meteorological factors.
Results:
From 2012 to 2024, a cumulative total of 61 019 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease among children and adolescents, 58 498 cases of other infectious diarrhea, and 6 377 cases of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis were reported. The AAPC in the incidence rates of these three diseases was 19.19%, 31.03% and 31.48 %, respectively(all P <0.05). Notably, the incidence of hand, foot, and mouth disease increased significantly after 2022 (APC= 133.66 %, P <0.01). The temporal distribution showed that hand, foot, and mouth disease was most prevalent in May,June and July (seasonal index of 2.39,3.64,1.97), other infectious diarrhea was most prevalent in February,March and December (seasonal index of 1.22,1.25,1.47), and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis peaked in September and October (seasonal index of 4.22,2.16). Monthly average temperature could increase the risk of hand, foot, and mouth disease( β = 0.18 ,95% CI =0.11-0.25); as monthly average wind speed increased, the incidence of other infectious diarrhea ( β =-0.86, 95% CI = -1.50 to -0.22) and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis ( β =-1.32, 95% CI =-2.60 to -0.05) both decreased (all P < 0.05 ).
Conclusions
Among children and adolescents in Shenzhen, category C intestinal infectious diseases remain prevalent throughout the year;the number of reported hand, foot, and mouth disease cases has shown an upward trend in recent years.Temperature and wind speed significantly affect the number of reported cases of three types with category C intestinal infectious diseases.

Clinical and Molecular Hepatology 2026;32(2):536-564
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) imposes a major health and economic burden worldwide, with disproportionate effects in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Surveillance in high-risk populations, typically using semiannual ultrasound and alpha-fetoprotein testing, has been shown to be cost-effective by enabling earlier detection and improving survival. Yet, its overall value is reduced by poor adherence and the limited sensitivity of ultrasound, particularly in patients with metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease. Emerging approaches—including abbreviated magnetic resonance imaging, multi-biomarker models (e.g., gender, age, AFP, AFP-L3, and DCP), and liquid biopsy assays such as methylated DNA markers—demonstrate greater diagnostic accuracy and potential economic advantages compared with conventional methods. Integration of artificial intelligence into imaging may further enhance efficiency and reduce downstream costs. Moving toward precision surveillance, guided by individualized risk stratification that incorporates etiology, fibrosis stage, and molecular profiles, can optimize allocation of resources and maximize cost-effectiveness at the population level. Interventions to improve adherence, including mailed outreach and behavioral economic incentives, have shown both clinical benefit and cost savings, underscoring the role of implementation science. Because socioeconomic disparities influence both access and outcomes, economic models must explicitly address equity to achieve sustainable impact. Future research should prioritize prospective trials that evaluate not only clinical performance but also the real-world cost-effectiveness of novel technologies and stratified surveillance strategies. For LMICs, adapting proven models into affordable, context-appropriate programs is essential. By combining prevention, precision risk assessment, innovative technologies, and equitable implementation, HCC surveillance can deliver both clinical and economic value, reducing the global burden of disease.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the mechanisms of adrenal dysfunction among adult offspring rats caused by prenatal ethanol exposure(PEE)aggravated by high-fat diet(HFD)and unpredictable chronic stress(UCS).METHODS Pregnant rats were randomly divided into the control group(saline,ig,once)and PEE group(4 g·kg-1,ig,once)from gestational day(GD)11 until delivery. At postnatal week 4(PW4),offspring rats from the control group and PEE group were randomly assigned to three sub-groups:the normal diet(ND)group,HFD group, and HFD-UCS group(n=20 per subgroup,at an equal male-to-female ratio). The rats in each group were given a corresponding diet until PW24.The HFD-UCS group received HFD until PW24,with additional UCS treatment initiated at PW21 and continued for 3 weeks.Serum adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)levels were measured by radioimmunoassay, and corticosterone(CORT)levels were quantified via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Adrenal mRNA expressions of steroidogenic factor 1(Sf1),steroidogenic acute regulatory protein(Star),cyto-chrome P450 cholesterol side chain cleavage(P450scc),3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase(3β-Hsd),steroid 21-hydroxylase(P450c21),steroid 11β-hydroxylase(P450c11),11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1(11β-Hsd1),11β-Hsd 2,mineralocorticoid receptor(Mr),glucocorticoid receptor(Gr),insulin-like growth factor 1(Igf1),IGF1 receptor(Igf1r),and serine/threonine kinase 1(Akt1)were determined using real-time quantitative PCR.Protein expressions of Akt1 and phosphorylated Akt1(p-Akt1)were analyzed via immunohistochemistry.RESULTS In male offspring,HFD/PEE significantly reduced serum ACTH and CORT levels, downregulated Star,P450scc,3β-Hsd and P450c11 mRNA,decreased 11β-Hsd1 mRNA expressions and 11β-Hsd1/11β-Hsd2 ratio, but increased Igf1,Igf1r mRNA,and p-Akt1 protein.Conversely,HFD-UCS/PEE elevated ACTH,CORT,P450scc,3β-Hsd and P450c11 mRNA,increased 11β-Hsd1 and 11β-Hsd1/11β-Hsd2 ratio while suppressing Igf1 mRNA,and p-Akt1 protein. In females,HFD/PEE decreased ACTH but upregulated Igf1,Akt1 mRNA,and p-Akt1 protein.HFD-UCS/PEE increased ACTH,CORT,Sf1,Star,P450scc and P450c11 mRNA,and 11β-Hsd1/11β-Hsd2 ratio, but reduced lgf1 and Igf1r mRNA.CONCLUSION HFD/UCS can aggravate PEE-induced adrenal dysfunction in adult offspring. The adrenal"GC-IGF1 axis"is an endocrine negative feedback one,and its decompensation may increase the susceptibility of a wide range of GC-related adult chronic diseases, such as diabetes.

Objective:To explore the spatial correlation between gray matter volume (GMV) changes and neurotransmitter receptors/transporters in patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FES) .Methods:Fifty-four FES patients(FES group) and fifty-nine healthy controls (HC group) were selected from June 2014 to May 2020 in the Psychiatry Department of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University. Structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) was conducted on all subjects. Differences of GMV were compared across 400 cortical regions and 32 subcortical regions. Based on the positron emission tomography(PET) data from Neuromaps, which provides the density of 19 different neurotransmitter receptors and transporters, Spearman correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the spatial correlation between GMV changes and neurotransmitter systems. Results:Compared to the HC group, FES group exhibited significant GMV reductions in widespread cortical (90/400) and subcortical (6/32) regions (all FDR-corrected P<0.05). The effect size of GMV reduction (Cohen’s d) showed significant positive correlations with the density of 5-hydroxytryptamine 1a(5HT1a) ( r=0.400, Pspin=0.002), γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor(GABA A)( r=0.307, Pspin=0.002), and metabotropic glutamate receptor 5(mGluR5) ( r=0.275, Pspin=0.020) receptors (all FDR-corrected P<0.05). Conclusion:GMV reductions in a wide range of brain regions existed in patients with FES. There are significant correlations between 5HT1a, GABA A and mGluR5 receptors and gray matter reduction in patients with FES. The disorder of these neurotransmitter receptors may be the potential neurobiological mechanism of gray matter structural abnormalities in the early stage of schizophrenia.
