ObjectiveTo analyze the characteristics of 150 patients with spinal cord injury complicated with spasticity. MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted on 150 patients with spinal cord injury accompanied by spasticity from September, 2019 to December, 2024. Their age, gender, cause of injury, injury site, severity of injury, spasticity severity and other indicators were recorded. The relationships between different characteristics were analyzed, and a correlation analysis of disease duration, spasticity grade, injury level, injury severity and age were conducted. ResultsThere was no significant difference in age distribution between patients with tetraplegia and paraplegia (Z = 0.806, P = 0.420). The proportions of trauma (χ2 = 3.982, P = 0.046) and tetraplegia (χ2 = 10.559, P = 0.010) were higher in males than in females. Trauma was the main cause of injury in both tetraplegia and paraplegia patients; the proportion of tetraplegia was higher than paraplegia in trauma patients, while paraplegia was higher than tetraplegia in non-trauma patients (χ2 = 11.885, P < 0.001). Patients with tetraplegia was dominated by incomplete injury, whereas patients with paraplegia was dominated by complete injury (χ2 = 10.885, P = 0.012). Grade A injury was predominant in trauma patients (P = 0.003). Spasticity grade showed a very weak positive correlation with disease duration (r = 0.175, P = 0.032) and age (r = 0.168, P = 0.040). Injury severity showed a very weak positive correlation with age (r = 0.183, P = 0.025). ConclusionCharacteristics of patients with spinal cord injury complicated with spasticity is different with gender, cause of injury, injury level, injury severity.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical characteristics of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (euDKA) induced by empagliflozin, and provide references for safe medication. METHODS Case reports of euDKA induced by empagliflozin were retrieved and analyzed from PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang Data. The Naranjo’s scale was adopted to assess the causal relationship between empagliflozin and euDKA. RESULTS A total of 29 patients were enrolled, including 16 males and 13 females, with a median age of 58 years. All patients were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus; 22 patients had at least one comorbidity. The median time to euDKA onset was 60 days after administration, and 7 cases occurred within 2 weeks of treatment. Perioperative periods, fasting, and low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diets were the main predisposing factors. Common presentations included nausea, vomiting, fatigue, tachypnea, and tachycardia. The causal relationship between empagliflozin and euDKA was assessed as “probable” in all cases. According to adverse reaction severity grading, 13 cases were grade 3 (severe) and 16 cases were grade 4 (life-threatening). All patients discontinued empagliflozin and recovered after corresponding treatment. CONCLUSIONS euDKA is a serious adverse reaction to empagliflozin, which mostly occurs early in treatment. Perioperative periods, fasting, and ketogenic diets are prone to induce euDKA. Elderly patients and those with comorbidities are at higher risk. Risk assessment should be conducted before clinical administration; blood ketones and acid-base monitoring should be strengthened in the early medication period; withhold the drug before elective surgery, avoid prolonged fasting;upon diagnosis, discontinue empagliflozin and initiate intravenous insulin, provide fluid resuscitation promptly, and use other treatments to improve patient prognosis.

OBJECTIVE To explore the changes and correlations of color, components and anti-tumor activity of Gelsemium elegans during sand-frying processing, so as to provide a reference for the toxicity-attenuating and efficacy-preserving processing as well as quality control of sand-fried G. elegans decoction pieces.METHODS Raw G.elegans and its processed products prepared by sand-frying for 15, 30, 75, 105 and 120 s were taken as test samples. The chromatic values, contents of total alkaloids and seven main active components (gelsemine, humantenine, koumine, gelsenicine, etc.) were determined. Their in vitro anti-tumor activity was investigated. The correlations between color and component contents, as well as between total alkaloid content and anti-tumor activity were analyzed.RESULTS The color of G.elegans samples generally darkened after sand-frying, and the total color difference (Δ E * ) of samples sand-fried for 75 s was greater than 20. At the initial stage of sand-frying (15-30 s), the total alkaloid content in processed products decreased sharply compared with the raw material; at the later-stage of sand-frying (75-105 s), the declining rate of total alkaloid content slowed down and tended to be stable. The contents of gelsenicine and humantenidine in processed products dropped drastically at 30 s of sand-frying, while the contents of koumine and sempervirine decreased substantially (by about 80%) after 75 s of sand-frying and then gradually tended to be stable. The anti-HepG2 cell proliferation activity of each processed product decreased with the extension of frying time. Correlation analysis demonstrated that color brightness and yellow-blue chromaticity were significantly positively correlated with the contents of total alkaloids and all determined active components except gelsemine ( P <0.05 or P <0.01); red-green chromaticity was significantly positively correlated with the contents of koumine, sempervirine, gelsemivirine and humantenidine ( P <0.05 or P <0.01); Δ E * was significantly negatively correlated with the contents of total alkaloids and all determined active components except gelsemine. Besides, total alkaloid content was significantly negatively correlated with the half maximal inhibitory concentration of the samples on HepG2 cells ( P <0.05 or P <0.01).CONCLUSIONS With the prolongation of sand-frying time, the color of sand-fried G.elegans decoction pieces gradually turned brownish-brown, the contents of seven active components and total alkaloids decreased progressively, and its anti-HepG2 cell activity showed an overall downward trend. Sand-frying for 75 s serves as a critical turning-point for the above-mentioned changes.

This paper summarizes Professor WANG Xiuxia's clinical experience in treating hyperprolactinemia using the liver soothing therapy. Professor WANG identifies liver qi stagnation and rebellious chong qi (冲气) as the core pathomechanisms of hyperprolactinemia. Furthermore, liver qi stagnation may transform into fire or lead to pathological changes such as spleen deficiency with phlegm obstruction or kidney deficiency with essence depletion. The treatment strategy centers on soothing the liver, with a modified version of Qinggan Jieyu Decoction (清肝解郁汤) as the base formula. Depending on different syndrome patterns such as liver stagnation transforming into fire, liver stagnation with spleen deficiency, or liver stagnation with kidney deficiency, heat clearing, spleen strengthening, or kidney tonifying herbs are added accordingly. In addition, three paired herb combinations are commonly used for symptom specific treatment, Danggui (Angelica sinensis) with Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong), Zelan (Lycopus lucidus) with Yimucao (Leonurus japonicus) , and Jiegeng (Platycodon grandiflorus) with Zisu (Perilla frutescens).

Objective To explore the molecular mechanism by which SOS Ras/Rac guanine nucleotide exchange factor 1-intronic transcript 1(SOS1-IT1)affects enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2)protein expression in endometrial cancer cells Ishikawa and RL95-2.Methods Lentiviral transfection of short hairpin RNA(shRNA)and overexpression plasmid were used in Ishikawa and RL95-2 cell lines to knock down and overexpress SOS1-IT1.The mechanism of EZH2 expression regulation was studied using Real-time PCR,Western blotting, and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Results The expression of SOS1-IT1 and EZH2 genes was positively correlated in endometrial cancer tissues.Knocking down SOS1-IT1 significantly reduces the expression of EZH2,inhibited the proliferation and migration of Ishikawa and RL95-2 cells, and could reduced the acetylation of histone H3 at position 27(H3K27)and the enrichment of CREB binding protein(CBP)in the EZH2 gene promoter region.Overexpression of SOS1-IT1 could increased the expression of EZH2 and enhance the acetylation of H3K27 and the enrichment of CBP.CBP could bind to SOS1-IT1 RNA,and this binding ability was weakened when CBP was knocked down. Conclusion SOS1-IT1 can promote the expression level of EZH2 in endometrial cancer cells Ishikawa and RL95-2 by regulating the acetylation modification level of the EZH2 gene promoter region, thereby affecting the proliferation and migration ability of endometrial cancer cells.

Objective To investigate the functional changes of oligodendrocytes in a mouse model of cognitive impairment induced by microwave radiation and the mechanism. Methods C57BL/6N male mice were exposed to S-band microwave at 2.856 GHz and 8 mW/cm2 for 15 min.The rectal temperature of mice was monitored by an optical fiber thermometer during microwave radiation. The changes of autonomous exploration behavior and learning and memory ability of mice on the 1st and 7th days after microwave radiation were detected via the open field test and novel object recognition test.Immunofluorescence was used to detect the expression and distribution of neuroglia-2 proteoglycan(NG2)and myelin basic protein(MBP)in the hippocampus of mice on the 1st and 7th days after radiation.Clemastine fumarate,a drug that promoted the maturation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells was administered by gavage, and the expression levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and fibroblast growth factor 2(FGF2)in hippocampal tissues were detected by radioimmunoassay at 1 and 7 days after radiation. The changes of myelin sheath structure an 1 and 7 days after radiation were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The effects of clemastine fumarate on learning and memory impairment induced by microwave exposure in mice were assessed via open field and new object recognition experiments. Results Under the experimental conditions, the rectal temperature in mice caused by microwave radiation increased by less than 1 ℃,which was within the thermal safety range of the body. The open field test showed that compared with the control group, the microwave radiation group didn't change significant in terms of movement speedon the 1st and 7th days, but the time spent exploring in the central area was significantly reducedon the 1st day after radiation(P<0.05).In the novel object recognition test, the indexes of the mice on the 1st day were significantly reduced(P<0.05),indicating that the anxiety like behavior and cognitive function of the mice were impaired after microwave radiation.Compared with the control group, the proportion of NG2+area in the hippocampus was significantly decreased(P<0.05)in the microwave radiation group, while that of MBP+area hardly changed on the 1st day after microwave radiation(P>0.05).The expression level of oligodendrocyte related BDNF in the hippocampus was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The myelin of the corpus callosum was broken, and the myelin g ratio was significantly increased(P<0.05),suggesting that micro wave radiation could reduce the number of oligodendrocyte precursors and damage the secretion and myelin function of oligodendrocyte.Compared with the radiation group, the expression levels of BNDF and FGF2 in the radiation combined with clemastine fumarate group were up-regulated,the myelin g ratio was significantly decreased on the 1st day after radiation(P<0.05),and the novel object recognition index was significantly increased(P<0.05).Conclusion Pulsed microwave radiation below the body's fever threshold can cause cognitive dysfunction and other brain damage in mice. The impaired secretion and myelin function of oligodendrocytes and the decreased self-repair ability are the important mechanisms of cognitive dysfunction induced by microwave radiation.

Chinese Journal of Perinatal Medicine 2025;28(7):608-614
Glucocorticoids play a critical role in initiating parturition in most mammals, including humans. In humans, their labor-promoting mechanisms primarily involve promoting estrogen and prostaglandin synthesis, inducing functional progesterone withdrawal, and facilitating membrane rupture. However, the administration of synthetic glucocorticoids—whether intramuscular, intravenous, or intra-amniotic—can variably trigger labor and may even contribute to the development of fetal programming of adult diseases. Clinically, synthetic glucocorticoids are primarily used in threatened preterm pregnant women to enhance fetal lung maturation and improve neonatal outcomes, rather than to intervene in the delivery process. Therefore, strict control over the timing and dosage of synthetic glucocorticoids is essential to balance their benefits for fetal lung development against the risks of unintended labor induction.
