Objective:To investigate the safety and efficacy of flow diverter (FD) in the treatment of middle cerebral artery (MCA) dissection aneurysms.Methods:Patients with MCA dissection aneurysm received FD treatment at the Department of Neurosurgery, Jinjiang Hospital and the Cerebrovascular Disease Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University from January 2021 to December 2023 were included retrospectively. The success rate of procedure, incidence of complications, occlusion rate of aneurysms, and clinical outcome were evaluated.Results:A total of 23 patients were included, with a success rate of 100% for FD implantation and a periprocedural complication rate of 8.7%. Nineteen patients (82.6%) completed angiography follow-up within an average of 7.2 months, of which the aneurysms of 16 patients (84.2%) were completely occluded, 3 (15.8%) were partial occluded, and 2 (10.5%) experienced in-stent restenosis; 14 (73.7%) showed stenosis of covered branch openings, of which 2 (10.5%) had branch occlusions, with no relevant clinical symptoms. The median clinical follow-up time was 23.2 months, with 95.7% of patients achieving good outcome (modified Rankin scale score ≤2).Conclusion:FD is safe and effective in the treatment of MCA dissection aneurysms, and precise device selection and release is the key to improving procedural safety.

Abstract Background and aims Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a major contributor to liver dysfunction and failure, particularly in the context of liver transplantation. Its pathogenesis is primarily driven by ferroptosis, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Given the interplay among these mechanisms through redox imbalance and disrupted energy metabolism, nicotinic acid (NA)—recognized for its antioxidative and metabolic regulatory properties—emerges as a promising therapeutic candidate. This study aims to investigate the protective effects of NA on HIRI and elucidate its underlying mechanisms. Methods An HIRI model in mice and a hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) model in primary hepatocytes were established to evaluate the effects of NA treatment on oxidative stress. NA was administered prior to model induction. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was used as a comparator. Comprehensive assessments of ferroptosis, oxidative stress, mitophagy, and mitochondrial biogenesis markers were conducted using Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and biochemical assays. Results NA pretreatment reduced serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, suppressed inflammation by decreasing neutrophil infiltration and macrophage activation, and mitigated oxidative stress by lowering reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. It enhanced antioxidant defenses, inhibited ferroptosis, and improved mitochondrial health through increased mitophagy, mitochondrial biogenesis, and mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) stabilization, leading to enhanced ATP production and mitochondrial function in HIRI. Conclusions NA improves mitochondrial function by promoting mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis, which reduces ferroptosis and oxidative stress, thereby alleviating HIRI.

Objective To investigate the expression level of tetratricopeptide repeat protein 9A in tumors and its association with the patients'prognosis and immune infiltration.Methods TTC9A expression in different tumor tissues and its association with prognosis,DNA methylation,tumor mutation burden(TMB),and microsatellite instability(MSI)were analyzed based on data from TCGA and GTEx.TIMER and xCell were used to analyze the relationship between TTC9A expression and immune infiltration.Western blotting and RT-qPCR were used to detect the expression of TTC9A in 4 types of cancer cell lines.Results TTC9A expressions were significantly increased in many tumors and down-regulated in a few cancer types(P<0.05).Western blotting and RT-qPCR showed that TTC9A expressions were elevated in lung,colon and liver cancer cells but decreased in bladder cancer cells.In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma,renal clear cell carcinoma,renal papillary cell carcinoma,low-grade glioma,malignant mesothelioma,and endometrial carcinoma tumors,a high expression of TTC9A was strongly correlated with better overall survival(OS),disease-specific survival(DSS),and progression-free interval(PFI)(P<0.05),but was correlated with worse OS,DSS,and PFI in lung adenocarcinoma,pancreatic adenocarcinoma,adrenal carcinoma,and rectal adenocarcinoma(P<0.05).TTC9A hypermethylation was associated with a more favorable prognosis of glioblastoma multiforme,low-grade glioma,uveal melanoma,and ovarian plasmacytoid cystadenocarcinoma(P<0.05)but with poor prognosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and intracervical adenocarcinoma,squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck,squamous cell carcinoma of the lungs,adrenal carcinoma,and endometrial carcinoma(P<0.05).In most of the cancer types,TTC9A was significantly correlated with the level of immune cell infiltration(P<0.05).Conclusion TTC9A can be used as a prognostic marker for a variety of cancers and is strongly associated with TBM,MSI and immune cell infiltration.

In light of the scarcity of freshwater resources and challenges in ensuring potable water supply at naval stations,the entire process of drinking water supply at a naval station was comprehensively investigated by field surveys and inquiries.The drinking water supply of the naval station was significantly affected by low and high water periods,and the water quality was poor.The water purification was insufficient.The freshwater collected through groundwater or rainwater had a poor taste,which resulted in a low level of satisfaction among officers and soldiers.In consideration of the meteorological characteristics and water resources utilization status at the island observation station,this study presents recommendations for enhancing the drinking water supply for officers and soldiers stationed there.Furthermore,this study discusses the feasibility of implementing air-to-water production technology to improve the quality of drinking water at the naval island stations,thereby safeguarding personnel health and maintaining combat effectiveness.

Early distinction of bipolar disorder (BD) from major depressive disorder (MDD) is difficult since no tools are available to estimate the risk of BD. In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a model of oxidative stress injury for predicting BD. Data were collected from 1252 BD and 1359 MDD patients, including 64 MDD patients identified as converting to BD from 2009 through 2018. 30 variables from a randomly-selected subsample of 1827 (70%) patients were used to develop the model, including age, sex, oxidative stress markers (uric acid, bilirubin, albumin, and prealbumin), sex hormones, cytokines, thyroid and liver function, and glycolipid metabolism. Univariate analyses and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator were applied for data dimension reduction and variable selection. Multivariable logistic regression was used to construct a model for predicting bipolar disorder by oxidative stress biomarkers (BIOS) on a nomogram. Internal validation was assessed in the remaining 784 patients (30%), and independent external validation was done with data from 3797 matched patients from five other hospitals in China. 10 predictors, mainly oxidative stress markers, were shown on the nomogram. The BIOS model showed good discrimination in the training sample, with an AUC of 75.1% (95% CI: 72.9%-77.3%), sensitivity of 0.66, and specificity of 0.73. The discrimination was good both in internal validation (AUC 72.1%, 68.6%-75.6%) and external validation (AUC 65.7%, 63.9%-67.5%). In this study, we developed a nomogram centered on oxidative stress injury, which could help in the individualized prediction of BD. For better real-world practice, a set of measurements, especially on oxidative stress markers, should be emphasized using big data in psychiatry.

OBJECTIVETo assess the impact of metabolic syndrome(MS) on Framingham risk score(FRS) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

METHODSThe anthropometric and biochemical data of 1708 patients with T2DM admitted in hospital from May 2008 to April 2013 were retrospectively analyzed, including 902 males and 806 females with a mean age of 57.1±11.8 years (20-79 years). Diagnosis of MS was made according to the criteria of the Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ Criteria modified for Asians.

RESULTSCompared to non-MS/T2DM patients, MS/T2DM patients had higher waist circumference, body weight, body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting C peptide, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL-C (P<0.05), while lower HDL-C (P<0.01). Both FRS [13.0(10.0, 15.0) vs 11.0(9.0, 13.0) in male,15.0(12.0, 18.0) vs 12.0(6.0, 14.8) in female,P<0.01)] and 10-year cardiovascular risk [12.0%(6.0%, 20.0%) vs 8.0%(5.0%,12.0%) in male,3.0%(1.0%, 6.0%) vs 1.0%(0.0%, 2.8%) in female,P<0.01] were higher in MS/T2DM patients than those in non-MS/T2DM patients.Both FRS and 10-year cardiovascular risk were increased with the components of MS.

CONCLUSIONT2DM patients with MS have more cardiovascular risk factors, higher FRS and 10-year cardiovascular risk.

While most reported hepatic PEComas, such as angiomyolipoma (AML), behave in a benign fashion, emerging PEComas cases without typical characteristics require further clarification. We report a case of primary hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell tumors-not otherwise specified (HPEComas-NOS) with untypical pathological and immunohistochemical features compared to those of the benign hepatic AML cases. HPEComas-NOS may represent a special type of PEComas classified as having "malignant potential" or at "high risk of aggressive behavior", suggesting the need for further clarification of hepatic PEComas and long-term follow-up of patients with HPEComas-NOS.
