Abstract
To promote adolescents active participation in physical activity and improve sleep quality, the article analyzes the relationship of adolescent physical activity with subjective sleep satisfaction, sleep latency, sleep continuity, sleep efficiency, and sleep duration. It explores potential mechanisms underlying the link between physical activity and sleep quality, including physiological mechanisms (circadian rhythms, body temperature, neuroendocrine systems, and immune function), and psychological mechanisms (stress relief, improvement of negative emotions, and promotion of mental relaxation). Based on existing research, it is recommended that adolescents engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity daily to promote improved sleep quality.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(6):779-782
Objective:
To explore relationship of sleep quality with overweight and obesity among middle school students, so as to provide a reference basis for improving adolescent sleep health.
Methods:
From September to December 2023, 5 713 middle school students aged 13 to 18 were selected by stratified cluster random sampling method in six regions, including Shanghai, Suzhou, Taiyuan, Wuyuan, Xingyi and Urumqi. Sleep quality survey was conducted on middle school students by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Height and weight were measured, and World Health Organization s standards for growth and development of children and adolescents was used to evaluate their nutritional status. Both χ 2 test and Logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the association between sleep quality and nutritional status of middle school students.
Results:
The non compliance detection rate of sleep quality was 38.4% among girls, but 29.2% among boys, and the difference was of statistical significance( χ 2=54.08, P < 0.01 ). The detection rate of substandard sleep quality was 34.2% in the group with normal nutritional status, 38.3% in the group with overweight, 43.7% in the group with obesity and 26.0% in the group with emaciation, and the difference in the rates of substandard sleep quality among middle school students of different nutritional status was statistically significant ( χ 2=68.15, P <0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that, after controlling for mental health and physical activity, the detection rate of substandard sleep quality in the obese groups was 1.30 times higher than that in the normal group, respectively( OR =1.30, 95% CI =1.06- 1.59 , P <0.01).
Conclusions
Sleep quality is correlated with overweight and obesity among middle school students, and there are gender differences. Intervention policies should be formulated according to the characteristics of different genders.

Objective To systematically evaluate the economic burden of echinococcosis patients in western China using meta-analysis, so as to provide insights into formulation of effective echinococcosis control strategies and optimization of medical resource allocation. Methods Articles pertaining to the economic burden of echinococcosis patients in western China were retrieved in international and Chinese databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Full-Text Database. Studies were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the basic characteristics of included articles, characteristics of included studies, and echinococcosis patients’ economic burden were extracted. A meta-analysis was performed using the software R package. The pooled effect size and heterogeneity were examined using a random effects model, and subgroup analyses were conducted. Results A total of 13 articles were enrolled, including 12 Chinese publications and one English publication, and all were retrospective studies. Included studies covered 4 western provinces (autonomous regions) of China, including Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Sichuan Province, and Qinghai Province, which involved 11 282 echinococcosis patients, and the study period spanned from 2006 to 2023. Meta-analysis showed that the pooled direct medical costs of echinococcosis patients were 24 730 [95% confidence interval (CI): (13 040, 36 430)] Yuan in endemic areas of western China, appearing a significant heterogeneity (I2 = 79.95%, P < 0.01). Subgroup analyses showed the pooled direct medical costs of 9 090 [95% CI: (-4 970, 23 150)] Yuan for echinococcosis patients in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and 18 140 [95% CI: (8 440, 27 840)] Yuan in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and pooled direct medical costs of 9 470 [95% CI: (-1 850, 20 790)] Yuan for cystic echinococcosis patients prior to 2007 and 15 270 [95% CI: (560, 24 030)] Yuan after 2007, respectively. There were high heterogeneities in the pooled direct medical costs for echinococcosis patients in terms of date of publication (I2 = 82.05%, P < 0.001), treatment modality (I2 = 83.28%, P < 0.001) and type of echinococcosis (I2 = 72.63%, P < 0.001). In addition, the pooled indirect medical costs and direct non-medical costs were 5 670 Yuan and 4 000 Yuan for echinococcosis patients in western regions of China, respectively. Conclusions Echinococcosis patients suffer from a high economic burden in endemic areas of western China, and there are disparities in the direct medical costs for echinococcosis patients depending on disease type, study areas and study period.

To analyze the characteristics of outpatient rare disease admissions at Xi′an Children′s Hospital based on the two batches of the China′s Rare Disease Catalogs. Based on the hospital information system, the outpatient visits of children with diseases included in the two batches of the rare disease catalogs from January 2018 to December 2023 at our center were retrieved and analyzed. A total of 93 602 outpatient visits of children with rare diseases were recorded, accounting for 0.71% of the total outpatient admissions during the same period. Among the diseases included in the two batches of the rare disease catalogs, 129 disease types were admitted, with a disease coverage rate of 62.32% (129/207). Specifically, 83 disease types (83/121, 68.60%) from the first batch of the catalog were admitted, with a total of 18 454 outpatient visits, showing an increasing trend year by year; 46 disease types (46/86, 53.49%) from the second batch of the catalog were admitted, with a total of 75 148 outpatient visits. The department of neurology admitted the most disease types, with a total of 54 types (54/207, 26.09%). Outpatient visits for single disease types exhibited multi-specialty characteristics, with 51.21% of the cases involving two or more specialties. Our center has admitted a relatively large number of children with rare diseases, covering most of the disease types that onset during childhood in the two batches of catalogs. There are obvious multi-specialty characteristics in outpatient admissions. The study results can provide data support for further optimizing the outpatient admission process for children with rare diseases and reasonably setting up multidisciplinary outpatient services.

Neuraminidase(NA),a glycoprotein on the surface of the influenza virus, plays a crucial role in viral escape and serves as a stable target for drug candidates.Monoclonal antibodies targeting the NA active site can bind to multiple influenza virus subtypes and inhibit the spread of influenza virus through various mechanisms, such as neutralizing, mediating antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity and complement-dependent cytotox-icity.In vivo experiments have shown that human monoclonal antibodies targeting the influenza virus NA can ef-fectively exert preventive and therapeutic effects, rescuing mice infected with lethal doses and reducing viral ti-ters in lungs of mice. This article provides a review of the currently reported human monoclonal antibodies targe-ting NA of Influenza A and Influenza B viruses, providing new ideas and prospects for the subsequent development of anti-influenza drugs.

The stability of ammonium ion selective electrode is an important indicator to ensure accurate monitoring of ammonia nitrogen concentration in drinking water. However,in long-term monitoring process, interfering ions and water molecules in water samples may penetrate into the interior of the ammonium ion selective electrode to form a water layer, which affects the potential response and stability of the electrode.Perfluorooctanoic acid is a low surface energy material, and doping it in polyaniline can reduce surface energy of the composite and improve surface roughness. In this work, five ammonium ion selective electrodes were prepared by doping polyaniline with different concentrations of perfluorooctanoic acid as a solid contact layer, which made the solid contact layer of electrode had hydrophobic properties, thereby improving stability of the ammonium ion selective electrode. The stability of the ion-selective electrode was evaluated by potential drift experiment, and the optimal doping concentration of perfluorooctanoic acid in the sediment solution was determined to be 5 mmol/L.The experiment results showed that the solid contact layer had a water contact angle of 132o under the doping concentration, the potential drift rate was 41.66 μV/h,and potential drift rate in the aqueous layer test was 1.31 mV/h,which were all better than those of the unmodified electrode. The standard deviation of the electrode potential was 1.42 mV,which was obviously superior to that of the unmodified electrode. The characteristics of high stability of the electrode made it suitable for long-term monitoring of ammonia nitrogen content in water samples.

Microalgae can achieve sustainable CO2 fixation and biomass conversion, making them a green path for carbon capture and conversion.Monitoring extracellular carbonic anhydrase(CA)activity in microalgae is crucial for regulating carbon conversion efficiency. In this study,double-stranded DNA was designed as a capture probe to bind H+,which was produced by CA-catalyzed CO2 hydration. This interaction induced conformational changes in the DNA probe, enhancing fluorescence signals and thereby establishing a recognition and signal transduction mechanism for CA catalytic product. This approach enabled a novel method for measuring CA activity. The response of probe to H+was investigated using ultraviolet visible(UV-Vis)spectroscopy,circular dichroism sepctroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimental results indicated that the fluorescence intensity of the probe increased progressively with rising H+concentration.Using this probe,CA activity detection could be completed within 29 min, with a detection range of 0.35-17500 U/mL and a detection limit of 0.15 U/mL.Compared to traditional methods, this approach offered a lower detection limit and was suitable for analyzing and detecting extracellular CA activity in actual algal samples.

Objective To explore the effectiveness of the peripheral arterial calcification scoring system(PACSS)based on computed tomography angiography(CTA)in assessing renal function in patients with peripheral arterial disease(PAD).Methods The clinical data,CTA imaging data, and laboratory results from PAD patients who underwent lower limb artery CTA examination were retrospectively collected. The PACSS was utilized to score the calcification in both lower limb arteries.Participants were categorized into three groups based on their estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)(normal group:eGFR≥90 mL/min;mild renal dysfunction group:eGFR 60-89 mL/min,and moderate to severe renal dysfunction group:eGFR<60 mL/min).The demographic data, clinical symptoms, and comorbidities among the three groups were compared by analysis of variance(ANOVA).The Spearman correlation coefficient was employed to evaluate the relationship between eGFR,cystatin C,and PACSS score. Results The age(P<0.001)and PACSS score(P<0.05)of patients with renal dysfunction were significantly higher than those of patients with normal renal function. However, there were no significant differences in gender, prevalence of diabetes, hypertension,or severe limb ischemia.Spearman correlation analysis showed that eGFR was negatively correlated with PACSS score(r=-0.18 in the right lower limb,P=0.037,r=-0.24 in the left lower limb,P=0.006).In contrast, cystatin C was positively correlated with PACSS score(r=0.26 in the right lower limb,P<0.001,r=0.22 in the left lower limb,P=0.002).Conclusion The PACSS score of lower limb artery in PAD patients is corre-lated with the severity of renal dysfunction. This finding may facilitate early warning and clinical intervention for PAD patients with renal dysfunction.

The patient, assigned female at birth and aged 1 year and 7 months, presented with clinical manifestations of 46,XY disorders of sex development. The external genitalia exhibited a severely undermasculinized phenotype. Laboratory tests and gonadal biopsy indicated poor Leydig cell function and good Sertoli cell function. Genetic testing revealed compound heterozygous mutations of c.867-2A>C and c.547G>A (p.G183R) in the LHCGR gene. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with type II Leydig cell hypoplasia. Type II Leydig cell hypoplasia presents a broad spectrum of clinical phenotypes, characterized by a lack of parallel function between Leydig cells and Sertoli cells, and significant individual variability in spermatogenesis and gender assignment. This condition should be considered when there is poor Leydig cell function but good development of Wolffian duct derivatives.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2025;27(8):1017-1021
The patient was a boy aged 1 year and 9 months who presented with 46,XY disorder of sex development (DSD), with severe undermasculinization of the external genitalia. Laboratory tests and ultrasound examinations showed normal functions of Leydig cells and Sertoli cells in the testes. Genetic testing revealed a novel pathogenic heterozygous variant, c.1186dupA (p.T396Nfs*17), in the PPP1R12A gene. Thirteen cases of PPP1R12A gene variants have been reported previously. These variants may cause isolated involvement of the genitourinary or neurological systems, or affect other systems/organs including the digestive tract, eyes, heart, etc. Patients with DSD typically present with a 46,XY karyotype and variable degrees of undermasculinization involving the external genitalia, gonads, and reproductive tract. This article reports a child with 46,XY DSD accompanied by growth retardation caused by a heterozygous variant in the PPP1R12A gene, which expands the clinical disease spectrum associated with PPP1R12A gene variants.
