To explore the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and integrative TCM-Western medicine approaches in the treatment of diabetic microvascular complications (DMC), refine key pathophysiological insights and treatment principles, and promote academic innovation and strategic research planning in the prevention and treatment of DMC. The 38th session of the Expert Salon on Diseases Responding Specifically to Traditional Chinese Medicine, hosted by the China Association of Chinese Medicine, was held in Beijing, 2024. Experts in TCM, Western medicine, and interdisciplinary fields convened to conduct a systematic discussion on the pathogenesis, diagnostic and treatment challenges, and mechanism research related to DMC, ultimately forming a consensus on key directions. Four major research recommendations were proposed. The first is addressing clinical bottlenecks in the prevention and control of DMC by optimizing TCM-based evidence evaluation systems. The second is refining TCM core pathogenesis across DMC stages and establishing corresponding "disease-pattern-time" framework. The third is innovating mechanism research strategies to facilitate a shift from holistic regulation to targeted intervention in TCM. The fourth is advancing interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance the role of TCM in new drug development, research prioritization, and guideline formulation. TCM and integrative approaches offer distinct advantages in managing DMC. With a focus on the diseases responding specifically to TCM, strengthening evidence-based support and mechanism interpretation and promoting the integration of clinical care and research innovation will provide strong momentum for the modernization of TCM and the advancement of national health strategies.

Cancer Research on Prevention and Treatment 2026;53(2):127-132
Objective To investigate the relationship between symptom burden and nutritional status under Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution classification in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods Data on the physical constitution, symptom burden, and nutritional status of 640 patients with malignant tumors within the 21st–28th days of chemotherapy treatment were collected and analyzed. Results Symptom burden was found to have a positive correlation with nutritional risk and TCM bias (except for idiosyncrasies), suggesting that constitution bias may be an important internal factor for the aggravation of clinical symptoms and malnutrition in patients with cancer. Conclusion The relationship between symptom burden and nutritional status in chemotherapy under the guidance of TCM constitution can be studied to predict the nutritional status and symptom burden of patients after chemotherapy to guide the symptom and nutritional management of patients with cancer in the chemotherapy stage.

From the theoretical perspective of "body fluids and blood stasis mixing", environmental microplastics (MPs) are conceptualized as a "novel turbid-toxin". This study aims to elucidate the complete pathogenic pathway through which MPs act as a key driving force (the "crucible" of pathogenesis) in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis (AS). By tracing the classical theories in the Chapter The Occurrence of All Diseases of Miraculous Pivot (Ling Shu), this paper clarifies the core connotations of "body fluids"-it not only refers to endogenous pathological fluids and lipid turbidity but also provides a theoretical basis for incorporating "exogenous turbid fluids", thereby laying a logical foundation for conceptualizing MPs as a "novel turbid-toxin". Meanwhile, the implications of "blood" (encompassing both blood quality abnormalities and blood stasis) and the dynamic process of "mixing" are elucidated. Drawing upon modern toxicological evidence, this paper demonstrates the high homology between MPs and "exogenous turbid-fluids" from three aspects: Morphology, toxicity, and invasion routes. The micro/nano-scale particle morphology of MPs enables mobility within the bloodstream. The multiple exposure pathways of MPs correspond to the traditional Chinese medicine understanding of pathogens invading through the mouth, nose, and skin. The characteristics of accumulating in vivo while inducing oxidative stress and inflammatory responses of MPs fully embody the pathogenic features-adhesion, binding, and vessel damage-of "turbid-toxin". On this basis, the dynamic pathogenesis of MP-induced AS is systematically interpreted. Initially, MPs with the "turbid-toxin" nature impair nutrient-defense harmony and cause endothelial dysfunction. Subsequently, as the core of "mixing", they interact with blood lipids and immune cells, generating heat and phlegm to form a major pathological hub of chronic inflammation. Ultimately, this process drives the coalescence of phlegm, stasis, and turbid-toxin into tangible plaques, evolving from stable lesions to vulnerable masses and accumulations. By integrating classical pathogenic model with contemporary environmental medicine, this study establishes an analytical framework that bridges macro-theory and micro-mechanisms for understanding the cardiovascular risks of MPs through an integrative Chinese-Western medicine lens.

Aim To explore the role of zinc transporter 6(SLC30A6)on the proliferation, migration and inva-sion capabilities of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)cell line Huh7,and to identify potential traditional Chi-nese medicine(TCM)small-molecule inhibitors targe-ting SLC30A6 from the China Natural Products Data-base(CNPD)using virtual screening techniques. Methods The expression levels, clinical characteris-ticsand prognostic value of SLC30A6 in HCC were pre-dicted based on TCGA and ICGC datasets.SLC30A6 was knocked down in Huh7 cells using lentiviral trans-fection.The effects on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were assessed using CCK-8,EdU,wound heal-ing,and Transwell assays. The regulation of HCC cancer stem cell markers(CD44,CD133,CD90)by SLC30A6 was also examined.Based on the CNPD,a docking-based virtual screening strategy was employed, including high-throughput virtual screening, standard precision virtual screening, and high-precision virtual screening,to identify the potential drug candidates with high specificity and favorable drug-likeness.Results SLC30A6 expression was upregulated in HCC tissues.Higher SLC30A6 levels were associated with advanced pathological stages, histological grades,alpha-fetopro-tein(AFP)levels,vascular invasion, and poor progno-sis in HCC patients.SLC30A6 knockdown significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of Huh7 cells and reduced the levels of HCC cancer stem cell markers.Virtual screening identified six potential TCM small-molecule inhibitors. Conclusions SLC30A6 can regulate the proliferation, migrationand invasion of HCC cells.SLC30A6 may serve as a poten-tial prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for HCC.
