PURPOSE:
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the left and right lower extremities was treated in the same way, but the left and right extremities received different levels of attention. This study aimed to investigate the differences between the right and left lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (LEDVT).
METHODS:
Clinical characteristics of LEDVT patients from July 2020 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed to compare the incidence of LEDVT on different limbs, demographics, predisposing factors, and anatomical characteristics. The exclusion criteria were bilateral LEDVT and recurrent thrombosis. Measured data was analyzed using independent samples t-test or Mann-Whitney test. Count data were analyzed by Chi-square test. A p < 0.05 was considered a statistically significant difference.
RESULTS:
There were 478 patients included in this study and the ratio of left to right LEDVT on the left and right limbs was 3.16:1 (363:115). Left LEDVT predominantly affected female, with the major aged > 50 years (50 - 60 years: 16.80%; > 60 years: 57.30%). The primary predisposing factor was iliac vein compression syndrome, with iliofemoral thrombosis being the main type. Male patients with LEDVT on the right limb were predominant and the age of onset was usually ≤ 60 years (52.17%). The main predisposing factor was recent surgery or trauma (< 30 days) and femoropopliteal thrombosis was the main type. In more detail, the left iliac vein was compressed mainly in the proximal segment, and the right iliac vein was compressed mainly in the intermediate and distal segments. Recent surgery or trauma to the locomotor system and genitourinary system often induced LEDVT.
CONCLUSION
The incidence of LEDVT on the left is significantly higher than that on the right. LEDVT on different sides has different characteristics, which is crucial for prevention and diagnosis in the relevant population so there are also differences in treatment of the affected limbs.

Targeting drug delivery systems mediated by nanoparticles has shown great potential in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. However, influences of different tumor progressions on the accumulation of nanoparticles, especially the ligand-modified active targeting nanoparticles are seldom exploited. In this work, the accumulation and penetration of RGD-modified gold nanoparticles (active AuNPs) with different sizes were investigated in orthotopic breast cancer with different tumor progressions. The results showed that the smallest active AuNPs had better accumulation and permeation effects in early tumor tissues with the relatively looser extracellular matrix, larger gaps, lower interstitial fluid pressure, and less receptor expression, which was due to size effects. However, the larger active AuNPs had better accumulation and penetration effects in late tumor tissues with highly expressed target receptors integrin α v β 3 because of the multivalent interactions between larger active nanoparticles and integrin α v β 3. In the midterm, tumor accumulation of active AuNPs was equally influenced by size effects and multivalent interactions. Therefore, RGD-modified nanoparticles with sizes of 7 and 90 nm accumulated more in tumors. This study will guide a rational design of active targeting nanoparticles for enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of tumors based on their progressions.

Cervical chondrocutaneous branchial remnants (CCBRs) are a rare congenital benign abnormality resulting from branchial arch dysplasia, characterized primarily by the presence of ectopic exophytic cartilaginous tissue in the neck present at birth. In July 2024, a case of CCBRs was treated at Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, involving a 7-year-and-10-month-old female patient. At birth, a bean-sized, rod-shaped, firm mass was noted on the left side of her neck, which progressively grew to the size of a corn kernel, measuring approximately 1.0 cm×1.2 cm. No significant local tenderness, redness, swelling, or ulceration was observed. Comprehensive examinations revealed no associated comorbidities. The patient underwent surgical excision of the neck mass. Postoperative pathological examination with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining revealed elastic cartilage in the central region of the lesion. The neck incision healed primarily, and no subsequent reappearance of the lesion was observed during the four-month follow-up. This article summarized the diagnostic and therapeutic process of this patient with CCBRs, and through a comprehensive literature review, highlighted that CCBRs represent one of the superficial markers of branchial arch dysplasia, with surgical excision being the primary treatment. Given that branchial arch abnormalities may be associated with structural or functional anomalies in other organs, a thorough systemic evaluation is recommended prior to surgery. Notwithstanding the absence of concomitant malformations detected on initial evaluation, continuous long-term follow-up monitoring is recommended to mitigate the risk of potential diagnoses being overlooked.

Gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis (GCPM) is a common and lethal manifestation of advanced gastric cancer, with a median survival of only 5-11 months. This consensus was developed by 30 experts from Asia (China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore) using the Delphi method and the GRADE evidence grading system. A total of 29 statements were formulated, covering the diagnosis and assessment of GCPM, indications for laparoscopic exploration and NIPS (normothermic intraperitoneal and systemic treatment), treatment regimens, prevention and management of complications, criteria for conversion surgery, and postoperative intraperitoneal therapy. The consensus aims to standardize clinical practice and improve the prognosis of patients with GCPM.

AIM:To explore the molecular mechanism by which treadmill exercise reshapes the homeostasis of mitochondrial dynamics and alleviates depression-like behavior.METHODS:The mouse model of depression-like be-havior was established by electronic foot shock plus restraint stress. The depression-like mice were intervened with tread-mill exercise. The neurobehavior of mice was evaluated using the open field test and elevated plus-maze test, neuronal in-jury was detected by Nissl staining and TUNEL,and the expression of mitochondrial dynamics-related proteins was detect-ed by Western blot and immunofluorescence.RESULTS:Five weeks of electronic foot shock plus restraint stress success-fully established the depression-like mouse model, and neurobehavioral tests showed that the mice exhibited depression-like behaviors. In depression-like mice, neuronal synapses were degraded and neuronal apoptosis increased, while tread-mill exercise reduced neuronal damage and alleviated abnormal neurobehavior in depression-like mice. The mechanism study shows that the expression of mitochondrial fission-related protein 1(Fis1)and dynamin-related protein 1(Drp1)in-volved in mitochondrial division is up-regulated,and the expression of mitofusin 2(MFN2)and optic atrophy 1 protein(OPA1)involved in mitochondrial fusion is down-regulated in the cerebral cortex of depression-like mice.Notably,tread-mill exercise reverses the expression of these mitochondrial dynamics-related proteins and reshapes the homeostasis of mi-tochondrial dynamics.CONCLUSION:Mitochondrial dynamics disorder is involved in the pathological process of neu-robehavioral changes in mice with depression-like behavior.Treadmill exercise reshapes the homeostasis of mitochondrial dynamics and alleviates depression-like behavior. This study provides a scientific reference for the clinical application of exercise therapy as an adjuvant therapy in the intervention of diseases associated with depression-like behavior.
