ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with levodopa in the treatment of Parkinson's disease(PD). MethodsA total of 60 patients with PD were enrolled and randomly assigned to test group or control group, with 30 patients in each group. The control group received levodopa only, starting at 100 mg per dose, three times daily, with gradual increases not exceeding a maximum daily dose of 800 mg. The test group received acupuncture three times per week in addition to levodopa. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. Assessments were conducted before treatment, after 6 and 12 weeks treatment, using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS), Wearing-Off Questionnaire-9(WOQ-9), Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA), Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE), Depression Rating Scale(DRS), Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA), PD Questionnaire-39(PDQ-39), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI). Repeated measures ANOVA was utilized to evaluate the effects of time, group, and their interaction on each index. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between combined treatment and outcome scores. Adverse events in both groups were recorded throughout the study. ResultsBoth groups showed significant improvements after 6 and 12 weeks treatment, with decreases in UPDRS total score, WOQ-9 total score, DRS score, HAMD score, HAMA score, PDQ-39 score, and PSQI score, and increases in MoCA and MMSE scores(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the test group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in all the above indicators after 6 and 12 weeks (P<0.05). Repeated measures ANOVA showed significant time main effects, group main effects, and their interaction across all outcome measures(P<0.01). Spearman correlation analysis revealed that combined therapy was significantly negatively correlated with UPDRS, WOQ-9, DRS, HAMD, HAMA, PDQ-39, and PSQI scores, while positively correlated with MoCA and MMSE scores after 12 weeks of treatment(P<0.05). Both groups did not experience any serious adverse events and did not affect treatment. ConclusionAcupuncture combined with levodopa is more effective than levodopa alone in improving motor function, non-motor symptoms, cognitive function, depression and anxiety, quality of life, and sleep quality in patients with PD, with good safety.

Colonic mucosal healing is the ultimate goal of ulcerative colitis (UC) treatment, but it remains difficult to realize. Given the higher incidence of UC in males and the beneficial effect of estrogen on UC, we conducted this study to examine the therapeutic potential of estrogen receptor β (ERβ), the primary ER subtype in colon, on mucosal healing in UC. Our study is the first to report that ERβ activation degree was positively correlated with mucosal healing in patients with UC. Furthermore, ERβ activation enhanced mucosal healing in mice with dextran sulfate sodium-induced and biopsy-induced colonic injuries. Mechanistically, ERβ activation promoted autophagy of colonic epithelial cells by inhibiting branched-chain amino acid transport, leading to focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation. Activated FAK promoted focal adhesion turnover and colonic epithelial cell migration, ultimately facilitating mucosal healing. ERβ -/- colitis mice exhibited impaired mucosal healing compared to wild-type littermates, highlighting the crucial effect of ERβ. Importantly, combination with ERβ-agonist diarylpropionitrile enhanced the amelioration of 5-aminosalicylic acid, a standard UC treatment agent, against mouse colitis. These findings attest to the crucial role of ERβ activation in colonic mucosal healing and may further inform the development of novel strategies for UC treatment.

OBJECTIVE To analyze the current situation of drug use in domestic aeromedical rescue, and provide references for the development of aeromedical rescue services and the rational use of drugs on board. METHODS All literature on aeromedical rescue in China were retrieved from the databases of SinoMed, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang data up to September 1st, 2024. Extracting descriptive analysis were conducted on the literature screened by the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of 36 literature were included. Aeromedical rescue cases had been reported in China since 1985, with a cumulative total of 5 370 cases reported. Prehospital rescue performed 861 cases, with 96.40% of them involving the use of at least 9 categories, totaling at least 10 different drugs, primarily emergency drugs. Interhospital rescue performed 4 509 cases, and 85.23% of them used over 48 kinds of drugs across 19 categories, mainly emergency drugs supplemented by specialty drugs. From the view of transportation, 5 166 air transfers were made by helicopters, of which 88.00% involved the use of drugs, and 204 cases by fixed-wing aircraft, of which 91.18% involved the use of drugs. CONCLUSIONS Drugs are frequently used in aeromedical rescue involving a wide variety of types in China. It is imperative to strengthen the focus on the equipment and rational use of drugs in aeromedical rescue, thereby facilitating the establishment of a standardized theoretical framework.

Objective:To analyze the CT and MRI manifestations of hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML) to improve the diagnostic accuracy of HAML.Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 46 cases of HAML confirmed by tumor surgery or biopsy in Yueqing People's Hospital of Zhejiang and Rui'an People's Hospital of Zhejiang from November 2015 to June 2024. Among them, there were 20 males and 26 females, with an average age of (40±18) years. The CT and MRI manifestations of the patients were recorded, and the tumor location, size, shape, boundary, CT density, T 1-weighted imaging, T 2-weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), fat suppression sequence, and inverse phase signal were observed. Results:29 cases underwent plain CT scan combined with enhanced scan. Among them, 4 cases (13.8%) had a round shape, 22 cases (47.8%) had a nearly round shape, and 3 cases (10.3%) had an irregular shape. 26 cases (89.7%) had clear boundaries, and 3 cases (10.3%) had unclear boundaries. 5 cases (17.2%) had uniform density, and 24 cases (82.8%) had non-uniform density. The CT value of the tumor was (32±6.8) Hu. 25 cases (86.2%) contained fat tissue within the tumor. Among them, 13 cases (44.8%) were mixed type. After enhancement, the fat tissue and necrotic cystic changes did not enhance, and the soft tissue components showed varying degrees of enhancement in the arterial phase. Among them, 6 cases continued to enhance in the portal venous phase and delayed phase, showing " fast in and slow out" , and 7 cases showed decreased enhancement in the portal venous phase and delayed phase, showing " fast in and fast out" . 17 cases underwent plain MRI scan combined with enhanced scan. Among them, 12 cases were mixed type. On T 2-weighted imaging with fat suppression, it was a mixed high signal, on T 1-weighted imaging, it was an isointense/low signal or mixed low signal, and on DWI, it was a high signal, with partial signal reduction on the inverse phase. 9 cases of tumor septation showed isointense signals on T 1-weighted imaging, 7 cases showed isointense signals on T 2-weighted imaging, and 2 cases showed high signals on T 2-weighted imaging. After enhancement, the mass showed heterogeneous enhancement, with 7 cases showing " fast in and fast out" and 5 cases showing " fast in and slow out" . Conclusion:Plain CT scan shows that HAML is round or nearly round, with non-uniform low density or uniform isodensity. Plain MRI scan shows isointense or slightly high signal on T 2-weighted imaging, low signal on T 1-weighted imaging, and high signal on T 2-weighted imaging with fat suppression. After enhancement, there is significant or mild to moderate enhancement in the arterial phase, with " fast in and fast out" or " fast in and slow out" as the characteristics.

Hematologic malignancies, such as lymphoma, myeloma, and myeloid neoplasms, can occur in extramedullary tissues.Traditional histopathological morphology and immunohistochemical staining have lim-itations,including time-consuming specimen processing, prolonged reporting cycles, and relatively low sensi-tivity in cases of limited cell numbers.Flow cytometry offers significant advantages in detecting tissue sam-ples,such as rapid processing, shorter reporting cycles, and high accuracy and sensitivity, making it an effective complement to histopathological and immunohistochemical methods. However, the application of flow cytome-try in tissue sample detection currently lacks standardized protocols for sample collection and preservation,single-cell suspension preparation, antibody panel design for limited samples, data analysis, and result repor-ting.To promote the standardized application of flow cytometry in detecting hematologic tumor cells in tissue samples, the Cell Analysis Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Biotechnology organized experts to develop the Chinese Expert Consensus on Flow Cytometry for Detecting Hematologic Tumor Cells in Tis-sue Samples(hereinafter referred to as the Consensus). This Consensus elaborates on the technical aspects of flow cytometry for tissue sample detection, covering sample processing, antibody panel design, data analysis, reporting content, and quality management. It particularly emphasizes recommended antibody panels and data analysis methods for flow cytometry when tissue sample cell counts are low. This article aims to interpret the key points of the Consensus to facilitate its better application in clinical practice.

Biomedical and Environmental Sciences 2024;37(12):1373-1384
OBJECTIVE:
This study investigated the association between household chemical use and respiratory disease (RD) in older Chinese adults.
METHODS:
The data were from the 2018 China Longitudinal Health and Longevity Survey (CLHLS) database, which included 12,866 participants aged ≥ 65 years. The prevalence of RD was based on self-reported medical history, and patients were divided into diseased and non-diseased groups. The frequency of household chemical usage was divided into four categories, and a total score for eight household chemical usage categories was constructed. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the relationship between the frequency of household chemical use and RD, and a restricted cubic spline was used to determine the dose-response association.
RESULT:
After adjusting for all covariates, regular use of repellents [odds ratios ( OR) = 1.28, 95% CI 1.06-1.55] and oil removers ( OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.03-1.58) were associated with RD. There was a dose-response association between the total score of household chemicals usage and RD risk ( P non-linearity > 0.05, P for trend < 0.01). Using patients with the total score below 9 as a reference, the OR for patients with the total score ranging from 25 to 32 is 2.33 (95% CI 1.25-4.09).
CONCLUSION
Regular use of repellents and oil removers increased the risk of RD, and the dose-dependent relationship was also observed.
