Osteoporosis is a prevalent skeletal condition characterized by reduced bone mass and strength, leading to increased fragility. Buqi-Tongluo (BQTL) decoction, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, has yet to be fully evaluated for its potential in treating bone diseases such as osteoporosis. To investigate the mechanism by which BQTL decoction inhibits osteoclast differentiation in vitro and validate these findings through in vivo experiments. We employed MTS assays to assess the potential proliferative or toxic effects of BQTL on bone marrow macrophages (BMMs) at various concentrations. TRAcP experiments were conducted to examine BQTL's impact on osteoclast differentiation. RT-PCR and Western blot analyses were utilized to evaluate the relative expression levels of osteoclast-specific genes and proteins under BQTL stimulation. Finally, in vivo experiments were performed using an osteoporosis model to further validate the in vitro findings. This study revealed that BQTL suppressed receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclastogenesis and osteoclast resorption activity in vitro in a dose-dependent manner without observable cytotoxicity. The inhibitory effects of BQTL on osteoclast formation and function were attributed to the downregulation of NFATc1 and c-fos activity, primarily through attenuation of the MAPK, NF-κB, and Calcineurin signaling pathways. BQTL's inhibitory capacity was further examined in vivo using an ovariectomized (OVX) rat model, demonstrating a strong protective effect against bone loss. BQTL may serve as an effective therapeutic TCM for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and the alleviation of bone loss induced by estrogen deficiency and related conditions.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2014;(7):1470-1475
So far, an evaluation system for the patent value of traditional medicine is in absence. For this reason, an evaluation system had been established in this paper, by taking advantage of unique attributes of traditional medicine. This system consisted of 10 key indexes equipped with the algorithm for the calculation of original value and comparative value. The comparative value of patent was easier to show the value difference among patents. In consideration of strong correlation between the legal value, technical value, and economic value of the patent and be-tween evaluation indexes thereof, three kinds of value were combined together without discrimination for integral e-valuation. Besides, with inclusion of specific indexes in this field, the non-specific indexes related or indexes un-available were excluded. Because there is no personal rating involved, this evaluation system is appropriate for the automatic evaluation of patents of traditional medicine and other fields .

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2014;(11):2320-2324
The generic chemical structure can express succinctly and can realize large protection range, so it is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical patents. But because of the complexity and the variety of generic chemical structure, the existing domestic patent retrieval system is unable to realize its retrieval. Efficient processing and depth of indexing for this kind of information is also the industry's problems. In order to construct one-stop service system of intellectual property, to realize the retrieval of generic chemical structure, we develop a new indexing method on the basis of the original GFL indexing language. The method further optimizes the definition of a super atom, regulates the selection principle of indexing term and the typical structure indexing to make the super atom play a greater role in the indexing and retrieval of generic chemical structure, so the method not only can improve the retrieval efficiency and convenience, but also can reduce the cost of indexing.
4.TCM Patents, A Neglected Information Resource for TCM R & D
World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2014;(9):1880-1884
As a kind of new literature resource, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) patent emerged in 1993 followed by a rapid development. Patent is a literature with academic, commercial, legal characteristics, carrying lots of the most timely and useful fruits of TCM research. The technological level of patent is not inferior to scientific papers, even better in terms of timeliness. By the end of 2013, the total number of patent applications for inventions related to traditional medicine had reached 204 000. For a long time, the study on TCM patents always focus on the tool of protection of intellectual property. While its role, as an information resources and a bridge binding scientific research and new drug development, has not been given adequate attention. This article briefly describes the job of the Key Lab of traditional medicine patent information resources and Beijing East Linden company, in medicine patent processing and utilization, and the idea of realizing the value of patent information resources, promoting innovation and development of Chinese medicine.
5.TCM Patent Resource in the Knowledge Economy Era
World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2014;(5):978-982
Patent is a type of technological literature with both academic and commercial value. Patents of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) occurred by the establishment of Chinese medicine patent system, and got a rapid develop-ment by the TCM modernization. To date, TCM patents had been accumulated into a large and content-rich technol-ogy resource. Efficient utilization of TCM patents is of significant importance to government departments, research in-stitutions and pharmaceutical companies. However, due to the absence of patent awareness and knowledge, the TCM researchers have no idea on the use of TCM patent information resources. In this article, a brief review was present-ed on the development process of TCM patent. Besides, several issues of development were discussed in depth. We attempted to outline the guidelines and come out with a series of specific measures on exploring patent resources. The prospects of TCM patent resources were also analyzed.
