Objective:
This study aimed to explore the correlation between balance function and core muscle activation in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), compared to healthy individuals.
Methods:
A total of 24 AIS patients and 25 healthy controls were recruited. The limits of stability (LOS) test were conducted to assess balance function, while surface electromyography was used to measure the activity of core muscles, including the internal oblique, external oblique, and multifidus. Diaphragm thickness was measured using ultrasound during different postural tasks. Center of pressure (COP) displacement and trunk inclination distance were also recorded during the LOS test.
Results:
AIS patients showed significantly greater activation of superficial core muscles, such as the internal and external oblique muscles, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Diaphragm activation was lower in AIS patients during balance tasks (p < 0.01). Although no significant difference was observed in COP displacement between the groups, trunk inclination was significantly greater in the AIS group during certain tasks (p < 0.05).
Conclusion
These findings suggest distinct postural control patterns in AIS patients, highlighting the importance of targeted interventions to improve balance and core muscle function in this population.

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2025;31(9):792-801
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity of total alkaloids from Gelsemium elegans Benth. (TAG) in vivo and in vitro and to elucidate their potential mechanisms of action through transcriptomic analysis.
METHODS:
TAG extraction was conducted, and the primary components were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The effects of TAG (100, 150, and 200 µg/mL) on various tumor cells, including SMMC-7721, HepG2, H22, CAL27, MCF7, HT29, and HCT116, were assessed. Effects of TAG on HCC proliferation and apoptosis were detected by colony formation assays and cell stainings. Caspase-3, Bcl-2, and Bax protein levels were detected by Western blotting. In vivo, a tumor xenograft model was developed using H22 cells. Totally 40 Kunming mice were randomly assigned to model, cyclophosphamide (20 mg/kg), TAG low-dose (TAG-L, 0.5 mg/kg), and TAG high-dose (TAG-H, 1 mg/kg) groups, with 10 mice in each group. Tumor volume, body weight, and tumor weight were recorded and compared during 14-day treatment. Immune organ index were calculated. Tissue changes were oberseved by hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry. Additionally, transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses, as well as quatitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), were performed to detect mRNA and metabolite expressions.
RESULTS:
HPLC successfully identified the components of TAG extraction. Live cell imaging and analysis, along with cell viability assays, demonstrated that TAG inhibited the proliferation of SMMC-7721, HepG2, H22, CAL27, MCF7, HT29, and HCT116 cells. Colony formation assays, Hoechst 33258 staining, Rhodamine 123 staining, and Western blotting revealed that TAG not only inhibited HCC proliferation but also promoted apoptosis (P<0.05). In vivo experiments showed that TAG inhibited the growth of solid tumors in HCC in mice (P<0.05). Transcriptomic analysis and RT-qPCR indicated that the inhibition of HCC by TAG was associated with the regulation of the key gene CXCL13.
CONCLUSION
TAG inhibits HCC both in vivo and in vitro, with its inhibitory effect linked to the regulation of the key gene CXCL13.

OBJECTIVE:
This study aimed to reexplore minimum iodine excretion and to build a dietary iodine recommendation for Chinese adults using the obligatory iodine loss hypothesis.
METHODS:
Data from 171 Chinese adults (19-21 years old) were collected and analyzed based on three balance studies in Shenzhen, Yinchuan, and Changzhi. The single exponential equation was accordingly used to simulate the trajectory of 24 h urinary iodine excretion as the low iodine experimental diets offered (iodine intake: 11-26 μg/day) and to further deduce the dietary reference intakes (DRIs) for iodine, including estimated average requirement (EAR) and recommended nutrient intake (RNI).
RESULTS:
The minimum iodine excretion was estimated as 57, 58, and 51 μg/day in three balance studies, respectively. Moreover, it was further suggested as 57, 58, and 51 μg/day for iodine EAR, and 80, 81, and 71 μg/day for iodine RNI or expressed as 1.42, 1.41, and 1.20 μg/(day·kg) of body weight.
CONCLUSION
The iodine DRIs for Chinese adults were established based on the obligatory iodine loss hypothesis, which provides scientific support for the amendment of nutrient requirements.

Chinese Journal of Blood Transfusion 2025;38(10):1320-1326
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the emergency infusion protocol for universal red blood cells by analyzing its clinical application in patients treated at our hospital's war trauma and emergency center. Methods: Data were collected from 133 patients who received universal red blood cell transfusion in the war trauma center of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2024. The basic information, universal red blood cell transfusion volume, compatible blood components, transfusion volume, blood routine (Hb, Hct), liver and kidney function (ALT, AST, TBil, DBil, creatinine, etc.) and coagulation function (PT, APTT, Fib, etc.) before and after transfusion were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Among the 133 patients who received a total of 374 units of universal red blood cells, the 24-hour survival rate was 62.4% (83/133). Spearman correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between shock index and universal red blood cell transfusion volume (r=0.283, P<0.05). Patients were stratified by universal red blood cell transfusion volume (≤ 3 U vs ≥ 4 U). The low volume group had less homotypic red blood cell transfusion volume and total transfusion volume at different time points, and the difference was statistically significant: within 2 h [2(2, 4)vs 4(3, 7), P=0.033<0.05], 0~24 h [6(4, 9) vs 8(6, 14), P=0.028<0.05], total transfusion volume [13(8, 20)vs 19(12, 35), P=0.021<0.05]. No acute hemolytic transfusion reaction occurred within 24 hours after transfusion of universal red blood cell. Conclusion: Universal red blood cells are safe for use in emergency treatment. Furthermore, the shock index combined with the volume of universal red blood cells transfused can predict subsequent transfusion requirements and enables the early reservation of compatible blood, thereby preventing delayed resuscitation.

Journal of Army Medical University 2025;47(12):1401-1412,封3
Objective To investigate the effect of polymyxin B(PMB)combined with tigecycline(TGC)on delaying Klebsiella pneumoniae(KP)resistance to PMB,and to analyze the possible mechanisms involved in the induction and delay of resistance. Methods Six clinical isolates of KP strains from the Intensive Care Unit of First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University were subjected and then induced with PMB at 1/2 minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)alone or combined with TGC at 1/2 and 1/4 MIC,respectively. The MIC changes of PMB in these strains were monitored over 14 consecutive passages. The strain 686K,which showed the most significant delay in resistance, was selected for further analysis.Differences in gene and protein expression were examined among the wild-type strain 686K,PMB-induced resistant strain(686K·R),and PMB combined with TGC delayed resistant strain(686K·DR)using transcriptome sequencing,qRT-PCR,and proteomics.Relevant target genes during the delay of resistance were analyzed through literature and bioinformatics analyses.Additionally, cpxR gene knockout strain 686K/ΔcpxR∷Apr and its complementation strain 686K/ΔcpxR∷Apr/pRK415-cpxR were constructed using homologous recombination technology to assess the expression levels of resistance-related genes and changes in MIC after induction in vitro. Results Under sub-MIC(1/2)PMB alone, resistance developed in all 6 KP strains within 2 d,while, the combination with TGC significantly delayed the development of resistance.Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses indicated that in strain 686K·R,the expression levels of the PhoP/Q two-component system, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)modification enzymes, and efflux pump systems were significantly up-regulated(|Log2FC|≥2,P<0.0001),while TGC co-administration markedly inhibited these expression changes. The cpxR deletion and complementation strains were successfully constructed. The expression levels of resistance-related genes phoP,pmrD,and acrA were decreased in the cpxR deletion strain(P<0.001),and the resistance was delayed until day 6 under PMB monotherapy, whereas the complementation strain restored the resistance phenotype by day 2.In the absence of cpxR,the effect of PMB when combined with TGC on delaying resistance did not differ from that observed with PMB monotherapy. Conclusion The combination of PMB and TGC can delay KP resistance to PMB.cpxR,as a critical regulatory factor, can impact PMB resistance by modulating LPS modifications and the expression of the AcrAB-TolC efflux pump, and plays an important regulatory role in the process of resistance induction.
