Objective To investigate the dosimetric differences in preoperative short-course volumetric modulated arc therapy(VMAT)for rectal cancer using different fluence smoothing(FS)levels in the Monaco Treatment Planning System(Monaco TPS).Methods Twenty rectal cancer patients who received preoperative neoadjuvant short-course VMAT at some hospital from September 2021 to December 2022 were retrospectively selected.Four groups of radiotherapy plans were formulated using the Monaco TPS for each case, which were classified into an off group,a low group,a medium group and a high group based on the FS levels. Then the four groups were compared in terms of the dosimetric parameters, monitor unit and number of the segments in the planning target volume(PTV)and organ at risk(OAR).Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 27.0 software. Results All the four groups had the doses to the target volume meeting clinical requirements, which had no significant differences in the doses to 5%(D5%)and 95%(D95%)to the target volume and the maximum dose(Dmax),minimum dose(Dmin),mean dose(Dmean)and conformity index(all P>0.05).Statistical differences were found between the homogeneity indexes of the four groups(P<0.05),with the medium group behaving the best. The number of the segments rose while the mornitor units decreased siginificantly with the increase of FS levels, with the differences being statistically significant(P<0.05).There were no significant differences between the V25,V20,V15 and V10 of the small intestine, the V25 and V20 of the bladder and the V15 and V10 of the left and right femur(all P>0.05).Conclusion In preoperative short-course VMAT for rectal cancer, clinical requirements can be met with different FS levels in the Monaco TPS,and medium-level FS results in optimal overall dose distribution in terms of treatment planning.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2025,46(5):48-53]

The adulteration and counterfeiting of herbal ingredients in medicinal and food homology (MFH) have a serious impact on the quality of herbal materials, thereby endangering human health. Compared to pharmaceutical drugs, health products derived from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are more easily accessible and closely integrated into consumers' daily life. However, the authentication of the authenticity of TCM ingredients in MFH has not received sufficient attention. The lack of clear standards emphasizes the necessity of conducting systematic research in this area. This study utilized DNA barcoding technology, combining ITS2,

Lung is the largest organ of the respiratory system. During hypoxia, pulmonary cells undergo rapid damage changes and activate the self-rescue pathways, thus leading to complex biomacromolecule modification. Death from mechanical asphyxia refers to death due to acute respiratory disorder caused by mechanical violence. Because of the absence of characteristic signs in corpse, the accurate identification of mechanical asphyxia has always been the difficulty in forensic pathology. This paper reviews the biomacromolecule changes under the pulmonary hypoxia condition and discusses the possibility of application of these changes to accurate identification of death from mechanical asphyxia, aiming to provide new ideas for related research.

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the risk factors for refracture of adjacent vertebrae after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in super-old patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures(OVCFs).
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was performed on 40 patients(age≥90 years) with OVCFs who underwent PVP between June 2012 and June 2019. There were 7 males and 33 females, age from 90 to 101 years old with an average of (94.6±1.6) years. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether adjacent vertebral refracture occurred after PVP. Among them, 20 patients occurred refracture after PVP (refracture group) and 20 patients did not occur it(control group). The general information, radiological data and pelvic parameters of the two groups were collected. The items included age, gender, body mass index (BMI), fracture site and bone mineral density(BMD) T-value, fracture to operation time, compression degree of injured vertebra, recovery degree of anterior edge of injured vertebra, bone cement injection amount, bone cement leakage, pelvic index(PI), pelvic tilt angle (PT), sacral angle(SS), et al. Factors that may be related to refracture were included in the single-factor study, and multivariate Logistic regression analysis was performed on the risk factors with statistical significance in the single-factor analysis to further clarify the independent risk factors for refracture of adjacent vertebral bodies after PVP.
RESULTS:
There were no significant differences in age, gender, fracture site, fracture to operation time, compression degree of injured vertebra and recovery degree of anterior edge of injured vertebra between two groups (P>0.05). There were significant differences in BMI, BMD T-value, bone cement injection amount and bone cement leakage rate between two groups(P<0.05). The PI and PT values of the refracture group were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in SS between two groups (P>0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that decreased BMD T-value, bone cement leakage, increased PT and PI values increased the risk of recurrence of adjacent vertebral fractures in OVCFs (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
There are many risk factors for the recurrence of adjacent vertebral fractures in super-old patients with OVCFs. Patients with high PI and PT values may be one of the risk factors.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare the clinical efficacy of distal radius T-plate combined with suture anchor and distal clavicle anatomical locking plate combined with suture anchor in the treatment of Neer Ⅱb distal clavicle fracture.
METHODS:
From June 2014 to June 2018, 42 patients with Neer Ⅱb distal clavicle fractures were retrospectively analyzed. According to different surgical methods, they were divided into the observation group (T-shaped plate combined with suture anchor) and the control group (anatomical locking plate combined with suture anchor). There were 22 patients in the observation group and 20 patients in the control group. In the observation group, there were 13 males and 9 females, aged from 22 to 70 (45.78± 14.44) years old, 12 cases on the left side and 10 cases on the right side, 8 cases of traffic accident injury and 14 cases of fall. In the control group, there were 12 males and 8 females, aged from 24 to 66 (44.17±15.58) years, 13 cases on the left side and 7 cases on the right side, 6 cases of traffic accident injuryand 14 cases of fall. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss and fracture healing time were compared between the two groups, and Constant Murley score was used to evaluate shoulder joint function.
RESULTS:
The patients in both groups were followed up for 18 to 24 (20.96±2.02) months. The incisions of both groups were healed at stageⅠ. The fracture ends of both groups were bony healed at the last follow up. There was no significant difference in operation time, intraoperative blood loss and fracture healing time between two groups (
CONCLUSION
The two methods can obtain satisfactory results in the treatment of Neer Ⅱb distal clavicle fractures, especially suitable for patients with comminuted distal clavicle fractures or osteoporosis; the clinical effect of the treatment of NeerⅡb distal clavicle fractures with T type distal radius plate combined with suture anchor is satisfactory, which provides another feasible treatment scheme for clinic.

Background:
Mental stress-induced myocardial ischemia (MSIMI) is closely associated with adverse cardiac events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and we aimed to determine whether biomarkers and blood pressure could be potential predictors of MSIMI.
Methods:
This study enrolled 82 patients with documented CAD between June 1, 2017 and November 9, 2017. Patient blood samples were obtained at resting period and at the end of mental arithmetic. Then, patients were assigned to MSIMI positive group and MSIMI negative group. The main statistical methods included linear regression, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and logistic regression.
Results:
Patients with CAD with MSIMI had significantly greater median resting N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP, 141.02 [45.85–202.76] pg/mL
