Childhood simple obesity has become a significant public health issue in China. Modern medicine primarily relies on lifestyle interventions and often suffers from poor long-term compliance， while pharmacological options are limited and associated with potential adverse effects. Traditional Chinese Medicine （TCM） has a long history in the prevention and management of this condition， demonstrating eight distinct advantages， including systematic theoretical foundation， diversified therapeutic approaches， definite therapeutic efficacy， high safety profile， good patient compliance， comprehensive intervention strategies， emphasis on prevention， and stepwise treatment protocols. Additionally， TCM is characterized by six distinctive features： the use of natural medicinal substances， non-invasive external therapies， integration of medicinal dietetics， simple exercise regimens， precise syndrome differentiation， and diverse dosage forms. By combining internal and external treatments， TCM facilitates individualized regimen adjustment and holistic regulation， demonstrating remarkable effects in improving obesity-related metabolic indicators， regulating constitutional imbalance， and promoting healthy behaviors. However， challenges remain， such as inconsistent operational standards， insufficient high-quality clinical evidence， and a gap between basic research and clinical application. Future efforts should focus on accelerating the standardization of TCM diagnosis and treatment， conducting multicenter randomized controlled trials， and fostering interdisciplinary integration， so as to enhance the scientific validity and international recognition of TCM in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity.

Recent clinical trials have demonstrated a protective effect in using traditional Chinese medicine Tongxinluo (TXL) capsule to treat atherosclerosis. However, clinical evidence of the effects of TXL treatment on coronary plaque vulnerability is unavailable. In response, we developed this study to investigate the hypothesis that on the basis of statin therapy, treatment with TXL capsule may stabilize coronary lesions in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The TXL-CAP study was an investigator-initiated, randomized, double-blind clinical trial conducted across 18 medical centers in China. Patients with ACS aging from 18 to 80 years old who had a non-intervened coronary target lesion with a fibrous cap thickness (FCT) < 100 μm and lipid arc > 90° as defined by optical coherence tomography (OCT) were recruited. A total of 220 patients who met the selection criteria but did not meet the exclusion criteria will be finally recruited and randomized to receive treatment with TXL (n = 110) or placebo (n = 110) for a duration of 12 months. The primary endpoint was the difference in the minimum FCT of the coronary target lesion between TXL and placebo groups at the end of the 12-month follow-up. Secondary endpoints included: (1) changes of the maximum lipid arc and length of the target plaque, and the percentage of lipid, fibrous, and calcified plaques at the end of the 12-month period; (2) the incidence of composite cardiovascular events and coronary revascularization within the 12 months; (3) changes in the grade and scores of the angina pectoris as assessed using the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) grading system and Seattle angina questionnaire (SAQ) score, respectively; and (4) changes in hs-CRP serum levels. The results of the TXL-CAP trial will provide additional clinical data for revealing whether TXL capsules stabilizes coronary vulnerable plaques in Chinese ACS patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between serum levels of fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23), heparanase (HPSE) and early renal impairment (RI) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 125 MM patients who were initially diagnosed in the Department of Hematology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology from June 2020 to June 2023. The patients were divided into RI group (>176.80 μmol/L) and non-RI group (≤176.80 μmol/L) based on their serum creatinine levels when diagnosed. The baseline data and laboratory indexes of the two groups were compared. The relationship between serum FGF-23, HPSE and early RI in MM patients was analyzed. RESULTS: Among 125 newly diagnosed MM patients, 33 cases developed early RI, accounting for 26.40%. The proportion of light chain type, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), blood uric acid, lactate dehydrogenase, FGF-23, and HPSE levels in RI group were higher than those in non-RI group (all P <0.05). There was no statistical significant difference in other data between the two groups (P >0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that BUN, FGF-23 and HPSE were associated with early RI in MM patients (all P <0.05). The serum FGF-23 level was divided into Q1-Q4 groups by quartile, and the serum HPSE level was divided into q1-q4 groups. The correlation analysis showed that with the increase of serum FGF-23 and HPSE levels, the incidence of early RI increased (r =0.668, 0.592). Furthermore, logistic regression analysis showed that after controlling for confounding factors, elevated levels of serum FGF-23 and HPSE were still influencing factors for early RI in MM patients (OR>1, P <0.05). According to Pearson's linear correlation test, there was a positive correlation between serum FGF-23 level and HPSE level (r =0.373). CONCLUSION There is a certain correlation between serum levels of FGF-23, HPSE and early RI in MM patients, and the incidence of early RI is higher in patients with abnormally high levels of both.

OBJECTIVE: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignancies seen in clinic and requires novel treatment options. Morin is a natural flavonoid extracted from the flower stalk of a highly valuable medicinal plant Prunella vulgaris L., which exhibits an anti-cancer effect in multiple types of tumors. However, the therapeutic effect and underlying mechanism of morin in treating GC remains elusive. The study aims to explore the therapeutic effect and underlying molecular mechanisms of morin in GC. METHODS: For in vitro experiments, the proliferation inhibition of morin was measured by cell counting kit-8 assay and colony formation assay in human GC cell line MKN45, human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line AGS, and human gastric epithelial cell line GES-1; for apoptosis analysis, microscopic photography, Western blotting, ubiquitination analysis, quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis, flow cytometry, and RNA interference technology were employed. For in vivo studies, immunohistochemistry, biomedical analysis, and Western blotting were used to assess the efficacy and safety of morin in a xenograft mouse model of GC. RESULTS: Morin significantly inhibited the proliferation of GC cells MKN45 and AGS in a dose- and time-dependent manner, but did not inhibit human gastric epithelial cells GES-1. Only the caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK was able to significantly reverse the inhibition of proliferation by morin in both GC cells, suggesting that apoptosis was the main type of cell death during the treatment. Morin induced intrinsic apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner in GC cells, which mainly relied on B cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) associated agonist of cell death (BAD) but not phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate-induced protein 1. The upregulation of BAD by morin was due to blocking the ubiquitination degradation of BAD, rather than the transcription regulation and the phosphorylation of BAD. Furthermore, the combination of morin and BCL-2 inhibitor navitoclax (also known as ABT-737) produced a synergistic inhibitory effect in GC cells through amplifying apoptotic signals. In addition, morin treatment significantly suppressed the growth of GC in vivo by upregulating BAD and the subsequent activation of its downstream apoptosis pathway. CONCLUSION Morin suppressed GC by inducing apoptosis, which was mainly due to blocking the ubiquitination-based degradation of the pro-apoptotic protein BAD. The combination of morin and the BCL-2 inhibitor ABT-737 synergistically amplified apoptotic signals in GC cells, which may overcome the drug resistance of the BCL-2 inhibitor. These findings indicated that morin was a potent and promising agent for GC treatment. OBJECTIVE: To explore and quantify the association of hot night exposure during the sperm development period (0-90 lag days) with semen quality. METHODS: A total of 6,640 male sperm donors from 6 human sperm banks in China during 2014-2020 were recruited in this multicenter study. Two indices (i.e., hot night excess [HNE] and hot night duration [HND]) were used to estimate the heat intensity and duration during nighttime. Linear mixed models were used to examine the association between hot nights and semen quality parameters. RESULTS: The exposure-response relationship revealed that HNE and HND during 0-90 days before semen collection had a significantly inverse association with sperm motility. Specifically, a 1 °C increase in HNE was associated with decreased sperm progressive motility of 0.0090 (95% confidence interval [ CI]: -0.0147, -0.0033) and decreased total motility of 0.0094 (95% CI: -0.0160, -0.0029). HND was significantly associated with reduced sperm progressive motility and total motility of 0.0021 (95% CI: -0.0040, -0.0003) and 0.0023 (95% CI: -0.0043, -0.0002), respectively. Consistent results were observed at different temperature thresholds on hot nights. CONCLUSION Our findings highlight the need to mitigate nocturnal heat exposure during spermatogenesis to maintain optimal semen quality.

Objective:To observe the efficacy and safety of micro-focusing ultrasound (MFU) combined with dye pulsed light (DPL) in the treatment of facial skin aging.Methods:A retrospective study was conducted in 133 patients treated for facial skin aging at Zhiyan Medical Beauty Clinic, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from May to September 2023. There were 46 males and 87 females, aged 24-45 (34.5±3.7) years. Patients were divided into two groups based on the treatment they received: combined treatment group: 55 cases, treated with MFU combined with DPL; control group: 77 cases, treated with MFU only. After the completion of treatment in all patients, three clinical physicians evaluated the pre-treatment and immediate post-treatment photos for efficacy, including improvement, deterioration, and ineffectiveness. The pain degree scores and skin reaction scores were compared between the two groups. The occurrence of adverse reactions was recorded.Results:After treatment, the improvement rate of all patients was 100 % (133/133). The pain score of the combined treatment group was 0.10 (0.05, 0.20) points, and that of the control group was 0.75 (0.60, 0.90) points. The difference was statistically significant between the two groups ( Z=-6.66, P<0.001). The skin reaction score of the combined treatment group was 0.40 (0.20, 0.60) points, and that of the control group was 1.20 (0.90, 1.50) points. The difference was statistically significant between the two groups ( Z=-5.18, P<0.001). There were no treatment site wounds and other serious adverse reactions during the treatment of all patients. Conclusion:MFU combined with DPL is effective in the treatment of facial skin aging without serious adverse reactions.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI),how to digitize the teaching of Medical Immunology is a new challenge posed by the times and education.This study is based on the advanced teaching model of Medical Immunology,which includes lectures-PAD class-flipped classrooms-expert lecture.By introducing knowledge mapping and AI teaching assistant into the entire learning process,the students not only deepen their understanding of the knowledge system of Medical Immunology,but also ex-ercise their ability to apply immunological knowledge to solve practical clinical problems,enhance their self-learning ability,expres-sion ability,communication ability,on-site performance ability,and cultivate a spirit of unity,cooperation,and exploration.The practice of empowering Medical Immunology teaching with digital intelligence achieves the integration of theory and application,the linkage between in class and out of class teaching,the connection between commonalities and individualities,and the union of abili-ties and qualities in Medical Immunology teaching.It also provides practical basis for exploring the implementation path of digital intel-ligence empowerment in Medical Immunology teaching.

Objective To quantify the lower limb coordination and coordination variability of children with spastic cerebral palsy(CP)during flat ground walking using vector coding technology.Methods From September to December,2023,eight children with spastic CP(patients)from Ji'nan Rehabilitation Hospi-tal and Ji'nan Special Education School,and eight healthy children(controls)from communities walked on a treadmill at a speed of 0.45 m/s.Lower limb kinematic data were collected using Vicon,a three-dimensional mo-tion capture system.Vector coding technology was used to quantify the temporal and spatial parameters of ipsilat-eral lower limb joints to calculate joint coupling angles and coupling angle variability(CAV).Results In the first and second double support phase,the hip-knee coupling angle was significantly larger in the patients than in the controls(|t|>2.317,P<0.05).In the swing phase,the hip-ankle and knee-ankle coupling angles were significantly larger in the patients(|t|>2.346,P<0.05).In the first double support phase and the single support phase,CAV of the hip-knee and hip-ankle were significantly larger in the patients(|t|>2.454,P<0.05),and they were smaller in the swing phase(t>2.560,P<0.05).In the second double support phase and the swing phase,CAV of the knee-ankle was significantly larger in the patients(|t|>2.909,P<0.05).Conclusion Coordination among hip,knee and ankle joints is poor for children with spastic CP during both the stance and swing phases of walking,and variability is more during the stance phase.

Theory and technology of Medical Immunology are widely used in scientific research.Our teaching and research group uses experimental teaching of Medical Immunology as a platform to carry out practice of scientific research project-based experi-mental system among"5+3"integration students.By completing a mini-project research including experimental design-experimental operation-research article writing,students cultivated scientific research thinking and exercised scientific research practice ability,and generally reported that the course is very difficult,but after completing it,it is very rewarding.
