OBJECTIVE:
To explore the function of LIM and calponin homology domains 1 (LIMCH1) in the development and progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), along with their potential clinical applications.
METHODS:
By utilizing transcriptome sequencing data from two groups of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients, along with bioinformatics analytical techniques such as Gene Ontology (GO) and gene co-expression networks, we identified genes that might play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma. We employed real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting to validate the expression patterns of these genes across twelve patient tissue samples. Furthermore, we conducted CCK-8 assays, flow cytometry analyses, and scratch wound healing assays to assess the impact of key genes on the biological behaviors of both the Cal27 oral squamous cell carcinoma cell line and the potentially malignant DOK oral lesion cell line. Additionally, we examined correlations between these key genes and clinical disease parameters in 214 oral squamous cell carcinoma patients using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data; gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) analysis results were also incorporated to enhance our findings from real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting regarding potential mechanisms underlying the action of these key genes.
RESULTS:
The integrated analysis of sequencing data and bioinformatics revealed that LIMCH1 exhibited significantly reduced mRNA (P < 0.001) and protein levels (P < 0.01) in the oral squamous cell carcinoma tissues compared with normal control tissues. In the Cal27 cells, the low LIMCH1 level group demonstrated a larger wound healing area within 24 hours than the control group (P < 0.01), enhanced proliferation capacity over 72 hours relative to the control group (P < 0.01), and an increased apoptosis rate within 24 hours compared with the high expression group (P < 0.05). However, no significant differences were observed between the low and high level groups in DOK cells. Furthermore, it was determined that low LIMCH1 level correlated with poor prognosis in the patients (P=0.013) and a higher lymph node metastasis rate (P < 0.05). Investigations into the potential mechanisms of action indicated that LIMCH1 did not influence the onset or progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma via the epithelial-mesenchymal transition pathway.
CONCLUSION
LIMCH1 level may function as a promising biomarker to aid in the prognostic assessment of oral squamous cell carcinoma; however, its precise mechanistic role requires further investigation.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2024;65(13):1318-1322
This article aimed to summarise the clinical experience of Professor XIONG Jibai in treating henoch-schonlein purpura (HSP) from the perspective of "simultaneous treatment of wind and blood". HSP was devided into acute phase and transitional phase in clinic. It was considered that the wind pathogen exists throughout the disease course, and the treatment is guided by the "four methods of treating blood" in TANG Rongchuan's Treatise on Blood Syndromes - Blood Vomiting (《血证论·吐血》), which are stanching bleeding, expelling stasis, tranquilising blood, and tonifying blood. In the acute phase, wind-heat damaging collateral symdrome and blood-heat frenetic flow syndrome are common, which could be treated by the method of cooling blood to dispel wind, and eliminating stasis to stop bleeding, with self-prescribed modified Ziping Xiaofeng Powder (紫萍消风散); in the transitional phase, syndrome of effulgent fire due to yin deficiency and syndrome of qi deficiency failing to control are common, which could be treated by the method of tranquilising blood and tonifying deficiency, with modified Zhibai Dihuang Decoction (知柏地黄汤) and Guipi Decoction (归脾汤). At the same time, it is believed that wind-related medicinal has the function of eliminating stasis, stanching bleeding, and cooling blood, and the wind-related medicinal should be used throughout the treatment.

Objective:To construct talent training objectives and courses for undergraduate education of tropical medicine. Methods:Two rounds of questionnaire consultation were conducted among 15 experts by Delphi method. SPSS 26.0 software was used for statistical analysis, and the recovery rate, expert authority coefficient, mean of importance score, full score ratio, coefficient of variation and Kendall coordination coefficient were calculated respectively. Kendall's rank correlation test was used to analyze the degree of expert coordination, and the "boundary value method" was used to screen the indicators. Results:The effective recovery rates of the two rounds of consultation were all 100.00% and the expert authority coefficient was 0.815. The coordination coefficient was 0.25, 0.32, and 0.27, 0.36 respectively, and the significance test showed P<0.001. Finally, 11 talent training objectives and 7 courses for undergraduate education of tropical medicine were formed. Conclusions:The talent training objectives and courses for undergraduate education of tropical medicine are reasonable and reliable, which can provide theoretical support for tropical medicine talent training and have certain guiding value.

Objective:To explore the application of photoplethysmography (iPPG) for contactless vital signs monitoring in the intensive care unit (ICU).Methods:Ten tracheostomy patients in intensive care had their heart rate, oxygen saturation, and diastolic and systolic pressures monitored using iPPG technology and a 24-hour bedside monitor. The readings included periods at rest, during turning, during suctioning, and when undergoing vigorous physical therapy and occupational therapy. The monitoring lasted 3 consecutive days. The data collected by the two methods were compared to analyze the accuracy of the contactless vital signs monitoring system. Results:The oxygen saturation readings of the two systems showed no significant differences. The heart rates, diastolic pressures, and systolic pressures did, however, differ significantly. Conclusions:In the situations tested, contactless monitoring of oxygen saturation is effective, but there is still significant room for improvement in the three indicators of heart rate, systolic pressure, and diastolic pressure.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2023;44(3):419-422
Objective:
To investigate the longitudinal association of plasma Irisin concentrations with changes in blood pressure (BP) levels among children, and to assess the moderating effect of physical activity (PA) or sedentary behavior (SB) on the relationship between Irisin levels and BP.
Methods:
Based on a cohort study, a cluster sampling method was used to select 3 651 school aged children from five schools in Guangzhou in 2017 at the baseline survey and follow up in 2019. Both at baseline and during follow up, PA and SB were assessed by validated questionnaires, and BP levels were measured by an electronic sphygmomanometer. A final sample of 521 children were enrolled based on the PA and SB at baseline. Plasma Irisin concentrations were measured by ELISA at baseline. Logistic regression analysis was recruited for exploring the associations of plasma Irisin concentrations with changes in BP. Moderating effects of PA and SB on the relationship between Irisin concentrations and BP were estimated using stratified analysis.
Results:
Logistic regression analysis indicated that there was no significant association between Irisin concentrations and changes in BP levels among children ( OR =0.98, P >0.05). After stratification for SB, Irisin levels in the low SB subgroup were inversely associated with changes in diastolic blood pressure ( OR=0.87, 95%CI=0.77-0.98, P =0.02). In addition, SB level had a moderating effect on the relationship between Irisin levels and the DBP changes ( P =0.01).
Conclusion
Increased Irisin concentration is associated with the decrease of DBP level among low SB children. Furthermore, SB level shows moderating role in the relationship between Irisin concentrations and changes in DBP levels.

Objective:To explore the application value of ultrasonic measurement of the pubic symphysis distance in predicting pubic symphysis diastasis(PSD) during delivery. Methods:A total of 262 pregnant women from June 2021 to July 2022 who delivered at Suzhou Wuzhong People′s Hospital and Jiangyin People′s Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into PSD group of 26 cases and normal pregnant women group (control group) of 234 cases according to whether or not PSD was confirmed during postpartum follow-up. Relevant data of the two groups were collected, including the biparietal diameter and femoral length of the fetus within 7 days before delivery, the pubic symphysis distance of pregnant women when the cervix was not dilated, pubic symphysis distance when the cervix dilated to 5 cm during the first stage of delivery, and the pubic symphysis distance after delivery, the age of the pregnant woman, the gestational week, the number of pregnancies, and the birth weight of the fetus. The differences of the above relevant data between the two groups were compared.Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between various parameters. The occurrence of postpartum PSD, and Logistic regression was used to analyze the predictive value of various parameters on the occurrence of postpartum PSD. ROC curve was used to analyze the diagnostic efficacy of each parameters to predict PSD.Results:The fetal birth weight, number of pregnancies, pubic symphysis distance in three time points in the PSD group were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P<0.05). The age of the pregnant women was negatively correlated with the occurrence of postpartum PSD ( rs=-0.152, P=0.014). The fetal birth weight, the number of pregnancies, the pubic symphysis distance in the cervix no-dilated and the first stage of labor were positively correlated with the occurrence of postpartum PSD( rs=0.160, 0.166, 0.678, 0.581, all P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that the increase of pubic symphysis distance before labor would increase the risk of postpartum PSD, and the difference was statistically significant ( OR=2 506.028, 95% CI=14.293-439 402.630, P=0.003). The increase of pubic symphysis distance at the first stage of labor increased the risk of postpartum PSD, with a statistically significant difference ( OR=10 704.027, 95% CI=33.830-3 386 803.429, P=0.002). The ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve of the pubic symphysis distance in the cervix no-dilated and the first stage of labor for the diagnosis of PSD were 0.896 and 0.917 respectively, the sensitivity were 0.731 and 0.885, the specificity were 0.940 and 0.829, and the corresponding critical values were 0.87 cm and 1.06 cm respectively. The area under the curve of the combination of the two parameters for the diagnosis of PSD was 0.930, the sensitivity was 0.885, and the specificity was 0.876. Conclusions:Ultrasonic measurement of pubic symphysis distance during delivery can predict the occurrence of postpartum PSD in pregnant women and can provide a basis for the occurrence and treatment of postpartum pubic symphysis separation in pregnant women.

Objective:To investigate the epidemiological characteristics, diagnosis, treat-ment and prognosis of gallbladder cancer in China from 2010 to 2017.Methods:The single disease retrospective registration cohort study was conducted. Based on the concept of the real world study, the clinicopathological data, from multicenter retrospective clinical data database of gallbladder cancer of Chinese Research Group of Gallbladder Cancer (CRGGC), of 6 159 patients with gallbladder cancer who were admitted to 42 hospitals from January 2010 to December 2017 were collected. Observation indicators: (1) case resources; (2) age and sex distribution; (3) diagnosis; (4) surgical treatment and prognosis; (5) multimodality therapy and prognosis. The follow-up data of the 42 hospitals were collected and analyzed by the CRGGC. The main outcome indicator was the overall survival time from date of operation for surgical patients or date of diagnosis for non-surgical patients to the end of outcome event or the last follow-up. Measurement data with normal distribu-tion were represented as Mean±SD, and comparison between groups was conducted using the t test. Measurement data with skewed distribution were represented as M( Q1, Q3) or M(range), and com-parison between groups was conducted using the U test. Count data were described as absolute numbers or percentages, and comparison between groups was conducted using the chi-square test. Univariate analysis was performed using the Logistic forced regression model, and variables with P<0.1 in the univariate analysis were included for multivariate analysis. Multivariate analysis was performed using the Logistic stepwise regression model. The life table method was used to calculate survival rates and the Kaplan-Meier method was used to draw survival curves. Log-rank test was used for survival analysis. Results:(1) Case resources: of the 42 hospitals, there were 35 class A of tertiary hospitals and 7 class B of tertiary hospitals, 16 hospitals with high admission of gallbladder cancer and 26 hospitals with low admission of gallbladder cancer, respectively. Geographical distribution of the 42 hospitals: there were 9 hospitals in central China, 5 hospitals in northeast China, 22 hospitals in eastern China and 6 hospitals in western China. Geographical distribution of the 6 159 patients: there were 2 154 cases(34.973%) from central China, 705 cases(11.447%) from northeast China, 1 969 cases(31.969%) from eastern China and 1 331 cases(21.611%) from western China. The total average number of cases undergoing diagnosis and treatment in hospitals of the 6 159 patients was 18.3±4.5 per year, in which the average number of cases undergoing diagnosis and treatment in hospitals of 4 974 patients(80.760%) from hospitals with high admission of gallbladder cancer was 38.8±8.9 per year and the average number of cases undergoing diagnosis and treatment in hospitals of 1 185 patients(19.240%) from hospitals with low admission of gallbladder cancer was 5.7±1.9 per year. (2) Age and sex distribution: the age of 6 159 patients diagnosed as gallbladder cancer was 64(56,71) years, in which the age of 2 247 male patients(36.483%) diagnosed as gallbladder cancer was 64(58,71)years and the age of 3 912 female patients(63.517%) diagnosed as gallbladder cancer was 63(55,71)years. There were 512 patients with pathological staging ≥stage Ⅲb who underwent radical resection, including 60 cases(11.719%) with postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and 452 cases(88.281%) without postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. There was no significant difference in the overall survival between cases with postoperative adjuvant chemo-therapy and cases without post-operative adjuvant chemo-therapy ( χ2=1.50, P=0.220). Conclusions:There are more women than men with gallbladder cancer in China and more than half of patients are diagnosed at the age of 56 to 75 years. Cases undergoing ultrasound, CT, serum CA19-9 examination before initial diagnosis are independent influencing factors influencing initial diagnosis of gallbladder cancer patients. Preoperative resectability evaluation can improve the therapy strategy and patient prognosis. Adjuvant chemotherapy for gallbladder cancer is not standardized and in low proportion in China.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of apatinib in combination with chemoradiotherapy for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).Methods:37 patients orally received apatinib at 250 mg/d during concurrent chemoradiotherapy until completion of radiotherapy, complete remission assessed by imaging examination, the onset of unacceptable toxicity or death. Baseline characteristics, objective response rates (ORR) and adverse events were assessed in all enrolled patients with complete baseline and safety data. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic factors were statistically identified using Cox regression models. Results:The ORR was 85%(95% CI: 72%-98%). The median PFS was 17.9 months and the 2-year OS rate was 62%(95% CI: 48%-80%). Ineffective short-term efficacy ( HR=0.035, 995% CI: 0.02-0.652, P=0.025) was an independent risk factor for poor OS. In addition, ineffective short-term efficacy ( HR=0.104, 95% CI: 0.017-0.633, P=0.014) and lymphocytopenia ( HR=17.539, 95% CI: 2.040-150.779, P=0.009) were independent risk factors for poor PFS. Common adverse events (>60%) included lymphocytopenia (76%), leukopenia (68%) and irradiation-induced mucosal injury (65%). The most common treatment-associated grade 3 adverse event was lymphopenia (49%). Conclusions:Apatinib combined with chemoradiotherapy yield significant anti-tumor activity for HNSCC with controllable toxicity. For patients with advanced HNSCC, short-term efficacy and lymphocytopenia may be potential predictors for clinical efficacy of apatinib combined with chemoradiotherapy.

Cancer Research and Clinic 2022;34(2):92-96
Objective:To investigate the predictive effect of intraoperative selective lymph node frozen pathological examination on central lymph node metastasis in thyroid papillary carcinoma (PTC).Methods:A total of 721 PTC patients who underwent primary radical thyroidectomy and central lymph node dissection in Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 2015 to June 2019 were selected. All patients underwent intraoperative selective lymph node frozen pathological examination. According to the paraffin section pathological diagnosis results, there were 449 cases of thyroid micropapillary carcinoma (PTMC) and 272 cases of non-PTMC. The association of the frozen pathological examination results of intraoperative prelaryngeal lymph nodes, anterior tracheal lymph nodes and paratracheal lymph nodes with the pathological results of postoperative central lymph nodes was analyzed in all patients and those with central lymph node positive confirmed by postoperative pathological examination in different groups stratified by tumor long diameter, including 192 cases in PTMC group, 142 cases in long diameter >1 cm and <2 cm group and 55 cases in long diameter ≥2 cm group; postoperative paraffin pathological results were treated as the gold standard. The sensitivity and false negative rate of intraoperative frozen pathological examination in the diagnosis of central lymph node metastasis were calculated. Results:There were 42.8% (192/449) and 72.4% (197/272) of PTMC patients and non-PTMC patients with central lymph node metastasis, respectively. Among 192 PTMC patients with central lymph node metastasis, the sensitivity of prelaryngeal lymph nodes, paratracheal lymph nodes and anterior tracheal lymph nodes was 28.1% (47/167), 61.4% (70/114) and 53.8% (91/169), respectively based on the intraoperative frozen pathological diagnosis. The sensitivity and false negative rate of intraoperative frozen pathological examination in the diagnosis of central lymph node metastasis was 72.4% (139/192) and 27.6% (53/192), respectively. Among 197 non-PTMC patients with central lymph node metastasis, the sensitivity of prelaryngeal lymph nodes, paratracheal lymph nodes and anterior tracheal lymph nodes was 49.7% (82/165), 51.6% (96/186) and 64.7% (112/173), respectively based on the intraoperative frozen pathological results. The sensitivity and false negative rate of intraoperative frozen pathological examination in the diagnosis of central lymph node metastasis was 84.8% (167/197) and 15.2% (30/197), respectively. The sensitivity of intraoperative lymph node frozen pathological results in the diagnosis of central lymph node metastasis for patients with thyroid capsule involvement in PTMC group, long diameter > 1 cm and < 2 cm group and long diameter ≥ 2 cm group was 81.7% (116/142), 81.7% (103/126) and 92.2% (47/51), respectively. Conclusions:Cervical central lymph node metastasis of PTC is common. Intraoperative frozen pathological examination of prelaryngeal lymph nodes, anterior tracheal lymph nodes and paratracheal lymph nodes can effectively predict whether the central lymph nodes are involved, and this hint is more obvious when the tumor long diameter is more than 2 cm and the thyroid capsule is involved.

Using stratified random cluster sampling method, a total of 4 969 students in grade 1-4 were selected from 5 primary schools in Guangzhou in 2017, and then were followed up in 2019. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data on children s sedentary behaviors, including doing homework, watching TV, playing computer/video games, and taking the bus/car between home and school. Visual acuity was measured in the baseline and the follow up using a 5 m standard logarithmic visual acuity chart. Multiple linear regression and Logistic regression were conducted to analyze the relationship between sedentary behaviors and visual changes.
Results:
The two year cumulative incidence of poor vision was 48.74%. Homework time was inversely associated with visual acuity of left eye( β=-0.012, 95%CI =-0.023- -0.002 ). Homework time was positively correlated with poor vision( OR =1.16, 95% CI =1.05-1.27). However, total sedentary time, screen time and bus/car time were not statistically associated with changes in visual acuity( P >0.05).
Conclusion
Increased homework time was associated with poorer vision in primary school students. Interventions to reduce the academic burden should be taken.
