1.Research Progress of Vagal Nerve Regulation Mechanism in Acupuncture Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice. It has a high prevalence and poor prognosis. The application of antiarrhythmic drugs and even surgery cannot completely treat the disease, and there are many sequelae. AF can be classified into the category of "palpitation" in Chinese medicine according to its symptoms. Acupuncture has a significant effect on AF. The authors find that an important mechanism of acupuncture in AF treatment is to regulate the cardiac vagus nerve. Therefore, this article intends to review the distribution and function of vagus nerve in the heart, the application and the regulatroy effect for the treatment of AF.

2.A novel anti-ischemic stroke candidate drug AAPB with dual effects of neuroprotection and cerebral blood flow improvement.

Ischemic stroke (IS) is a globally life-threatening disease. Presently, few therapeutic medicines are available for treating IS, and rt-PA is the only drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US. In fact, many agents showing excellent neuroprotection but no blood flow-improving activity in animals have not achieved ideal clinical efficacy, while thrombolytic drugs only improving blood flow without neuroprotection have limited their wider application. To address these challenges and meet the huge unmet clinical need, we have designed and identified a novel compound AAPB with dual effects of neuroprotection and cerebral blood flow improvement. AAPB significantly reduced cerebral infarction and neural function deficit in tMCAO rats, pMCAO rats, and IS rhesus monkeys, as well as displayed exceptional safety profiles and excellent pharmacokinetic properties in rats and dogs. AAPB has now entered phase I of clinical trials fighting IS in China.
3.Causal Associations between Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM 2.5), PM 2.5 Absorbance, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Risk: Evidence from a Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study.

OBJECTIVE:
Several epidemiological observational studies have related particulate matter (PM) exposure to Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but many confounding factors make it difficult to draw causal links from observational studies. The objective of this study was to explore the causal association between PM 2.5 exposure, its absorbance, and IBD.
METHODS:
We assessed the association of PM 2.5 and PM 2.5 absorbance with the two primary forms of IBD (Crohn's disease [CD] and ulcerative colitis [UC]) using Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the causal relationship. We conducted two-sample MR analyses with aggregated data from the UK Biobank genome-wide association study. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms linked with PM 2.5 concentrations or their absorbance were used as instrumental variables (IVs). We used inverse variance weighting (IVW) as the primary analytical approach and four other standard methods as supplementary analyses for quality control.
RESULTS:
The results of MR demonstrated that PM 2.5 had an adverse influence on UC risk (odds ratio [ OR] = 1.010; 95% confidence interval [ CI] = 1.001-1.019, P = 0.020). Meanwhile, the results of IVW showed that PM 2.5 absorbance was also causally associated with UC ( OR = 1.012; 95% CI = 1.004-1.019, P = 0.002). We observed no causal relationship between PM 2.5, PM 2.5 absorbance, and CD. The results of sensitivity analysis indicated the absence of heterogeneity or pleiotropy, ensuring the reliability of MR results.
CONCLUSION
Based on two-sample MR analyses, there are potential positive causal relationships between PM 2.5, PM 2.5 absorbance, and UC.

Objective To investigate the status of population dynamics and distribution changes of Aedes aegypti in Guangdong Province.Methods Continuous monitoring was conducted from May 2018 to July 2024 in Wushi Town and Qishui Town,Leizhou City,Zhanjiang City,Guangdong Province.Additionally,a survey of the distribution of Ae.aegypti along the Leizhou Peninsula coast was carried out.Results The density of Ae.aegypti in Zhanjiang showed a gradual decline from 2018 to 2024.The last detection of adult Ae.aegypti in Wushi Town was in September 2021,and the last larva was found in October 2023.No Ae.aegypti was detected in Qishui Town during surveys from 2021 to 2024.A survey of 18 coastal villages in the Leizhou Peninsula revealed no detections of Ae.aegypti.Conclusions This study provides a basis for understanding the distribution and population density fluctuations of Ae.aegypti,assessing its invasion risk,and scientifically conducting relevant prevention and control efforts.

Objective To investigate the risk factors for bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)in twin preterm infants with a gestational age of<34 weeks,and to provide a basis for early identification of BPD in twin preterm infants in clinical practice.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed for the twin preterm infants with a gestational age of<34 weeks who were admitted to 22 hospitals nationwide from January 2018 to December 2020.According to their conditions,they were divided into group A(both twins had BPD),group B(only one twin had BPD),and group C(neither twin had BPD).The risk factors for BPD in twin preterm infants were analyzed.Further analysis was conducted on group B to investigate the postnatal risk factors for BPD within twins.Results A total of 904 pairs of twins with a gestational age of<34 weeks were included in this study.The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that compared with group C,birth weight discordance of>25%between the twins was an independent risk factor for BPD in one of the twins(OR=3.370,95%CI:1.500-7.568,P<0.05),and high gestational age at birth was a protective factor against BPD(P<0.05).The conditional logistic regression analysis of group B showed that small-for-gestational-age(SGA)birth was an independent risk factor for BPD in individual twins(OR=5.017,95%CI:1.040-24.190,P<0.05).Conclusions The development of BPD in twin preterm infants is associated with gestational age,birth weight discordance between the twins,and SGA birth.
6.Effects of uncinine on lipid metabolism in hepatocytes deficient in glucose-6-phosphatase

Objective To investigate the effect of uncinine on abnormal lipid metabolism in hepatocytes caused by glucose-6-phosphatase(G-6-Pase)deficiency and its mechanism.Methods Mouse hepatocytes AML12 were randomly divided into blank group(normal culture),si-NC group(transfected with si-NC plasmid),si-G-6-Pase group(transfected with si-G-6-Pase plasmid),si-G-6-Pase+DMSO group[transfected with si-G-6-Pase+solvent dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)],si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine group(transfected with si-G-6-Pase+80.0 μmol·L-1 uncarine)and si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine+3-MA group[transfected with si-G-6-Pase+80.0 μmol·L-1 uncarine+5.0 mmol·L-1 3-methyladenine(3-MA)].The kit was used to detect triglyceride(TG)and total cholesterol(TC),Western blot assay was used to detect protein expression.Results The levels of TG in blank group,si-NC group,si-G-6-Pase group,si-G-6-Pase+DMSO group and si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine group were(0.13±0.01),(0.13±0.01),(0.20±0.02),(0.21±0.02)and(0.17±0.01)μ,mol·L-1·mg protein-1;the TC levels were(0.08±0.01),(0.07±0.01),(0.15±0.01),(0.16±0.01)and(0.10±0.01)μmol·L-1·mg protein-1;the Beclin 1 protein relative expression were 0.79±0.06,0.80±0.07,0.42±0.07,0.41±0.03 and 0.70±0.05;the relative expression of nucleus transcription factor EB(TFEB)protein were 0.47±0.05,0.45±0.04,0.19±0.03,0.20±0.03 and 0.59±0.06;the phosphorylated-adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase(p-AMPK)protein relative expression were 0.91±0.13,0.93±0.07,0.54±0.07,0.55±0.06 and 0.70±0.09,respectively.The above indicators:si-G-6-Pase group were compared with si-NC group,si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine group were compared with si-G-6-Pase+DMSO group,the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).The levels of TG in si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine group and si-G-6-Pase+Uncarine+3-MA group were(0.19±0.03)and(0.12±0.01)μmol·L-1·mg protein-1;the TC levels were(0.10±0.01)and(0.15±0.01)μmol·L-1·mg protein-1,respectively,the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusion Uncarine may improve the abnormal liver lipid metabolism caused by G-6-Pase deficiency by enhancing autophagy.
7.Effect of ureteral wall thickness at the site of ureteral stones on the clinical efficacy of ureteroscopic lithotripsy

Objective To investigate the effect of varying ureteral wall thickness(UWT)at the site of ureteral stones on the clinical efficacy of ureteroscopic lithotripsy(URL).Methods The clinical data of 164 patients with ureteral stones in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed.According to different UWT,the patients were divided into the mild thickening group(84 cases,UWT<3.16 mm),the moderate thickening group(31 cases,UWT 3.16 to 3.49 mm),and the severe thickening group(49 cases,UWT>3.49 mm),and the differences of clinical related indicators among the three groups were compared.Results The incidence of postoperative renal colic and leukocyte disorder in the mild thickening group and the moderate thickening group were lower than those in the severe thickening group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The postoperative catheterization time in the mild thickening group and the moderate thickening group were shorter than that in the severe thickening group,and the incidences of secondary lithotripsy,residual stones and stone return to kidney in the mild thickening group and the moderate thickening group were lower than those in the severe thickening group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The length of hospital stay and hospitalization cost in the mild thickening group and the moderate thickening group were shorter/less than those in the severe thickening group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion With the increase of UWT(especially when UWT>3.49 mm),the incidence of postoperative complications and hospitalization cost of URL increase to varying degrees,and the surgical efficacy decreases.In clinical work,UWT measurement holds potential value in predicting the surgical efficacy and complications of URL.
8.Heavy metal pollution in rural soil and ecological risk in Wanzhou District, Chongqing

ObjectiveTo analyze and assess the pollution levels of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) in rural soils of Wanzhou District, Chongqing Municipality, and to provide data support for proposing relevant measures and suggestions. MethodsBased on the soil monitoring data from 2017 to 2021, the ecological risk assessment was conducted by applying the Soil Pollution Risk Control Standard for Agricultural Land of Soil Environmental Quality (for trial implementation) (GB 15168‒2018), the pollution index method and the potential ecological risk method. ResultsA total of 100 soil samples were collected, with pH values ranged from 3.50 to 8.30, and a mean value of 6.10. The mean values of Pb, Cd, and Cr in the soil were 25.2 mg·kg-1, 0.310 mg·kg-1, and 68.6 mg·kg-1, respectively. Except for Cr, the mean values of other elements exceeded the soil background values. Cd level had the largest coefficient of variation and uneven spatial distribution, with an overall exceedance rate of 30.0%. Pollution levels of Pb and Cr were generally at the alert level, while Cd was generally at a light pollution level. The proportion of Cd pollution levels was higher than that of Pb and Cr, and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=15.015, P=0.001). The Nemerow comprehensive pollution index in different townships ranged from 0.70 to 2.07, with a median value of 1.10, and was generally at a light pollution level. The potential ecological hazard risk of Cd was relatively high, and was generally at a mild level of hazard. The highest contribution rate in the comprehensive potential ecological hazard index was Cd, accounting for 84.1%. ConclusionThere is a certain degree of Cd pollution and mild ecological risk in rural soils of Wanzhou District. Monitoring and management of Cd pollution in rural soils of Wanzhou District, Chongqing Municipality, should be strengthened.
9.Latent tuberculosis infection among close contacts of positive etiology pul-monary tuberculosis in Chongqing

Objective To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of latent tuberculosis infection(LTBI)among close contacts of positive etiology pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)patients,provide basis for formula-ting intervention measures for LTBI.Methods A multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select close contacts of positive etiology PTB patients from 39 districts and counties in Chongqing City as the study objects.Demographic information was collected by questionnaire survey and the infection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis was detected by interferon gamma release assay(IGRA).The influencing factors of LTBI were analyzed by x2 test and binary logistic regression model.Results A total of 2 591 close contacts were included,the male to female ratio was 0.69∶1,with the mean age of(35.72±16.64)years.1 058 cases of LTBI were detected,Myco-bacterium tuberculosis latent infection rate was 40.83%.Univariate analysis showed that the infection rate was dif-ferent among peoples of different age,body mass index(BMI),occupation,education level,marital status,wheth-er they had chronic disease or major surgery history,whether they lived together with the indicator case,and whether the cumulative contact time with the indicator case ≥250 hours,difference were all statistically significant(all P<0.05);infection rate presented increased trend with the increase of age and BMI(both P<0.001),and decreased trend with the increase of education(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that age 45-54 years old(OR=1.951,95%CI:1.031-3.693),age 55-64 years old(OR=2.473,95%CI:1.279-4.781),other occupations(OR=0.530,95%CI:0.292-0.964),teachers(OR=0.439,95%CI:0.242-0.794),students(OR=0.445,95%CI:0.233-0.851),junior high school education or below(OR=1.412,95%CI:1.025-1.944),BMI<18.5 kg/m2(OR=0.762,95%CI:0.586-0.991),co-living with indicator cases(OR=1.621,95%CI1.316-1.997)and cumu-lative contact time with indicator cases ≥250 hours(OR=1.292,95%CI:1.083-1.540)were the influential fac-tors for LTBI(all P<0.05).Conclusion The close contacts with positive etiology PTB have a high latent infection rate of Mycobacterium tuberculosis,and it is necessary to pay attention to close contacts of high age,farmers,and frequent contact with patients,and take timely targeted interventions to reduce the risk of occurrence of disease.
10.Mechanism of kaempferol on intervertebral disc degeneration based on p38 MAPK signaling pathway.

This study investigated the mechanism by which kaempferol(KAE) affected intervertebral disc degeneration(IDD) through the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(p38 MAPK) signaling pathway. Rats were randomly divided into five groups: control group, model group, low-dose KAE group, medium-dose KAE group, and high-dose KAE group. An IDD model was established by needle puncture of the caudal intervertebral discs. Four weeks post-surgery, the rats were administered KAE via gavage for 8 consecutive weeks. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) was performed, and samples were collected. In vitro, an inflammation model of nucleus pulposus cells(NPCs) induced by tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) was constructed. Anisomycin was used to activate the p38 MAPK signaling pathway. NPCs were divided into blank, model, KAE, agonist, and KAE + agonist groups. After 1 day of treatment, cell proliferation activity was assessed using the CCK-8. Protein expression levels were determined by Western blot, and mRNA expression was measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining, and immunofluorescence staining was used to detect type Ⅱ collagen and matrix metalloproteinase 3(MMP3). In vivo results indicated significant improvement in the degree of IDD in the treatment groups compared to the model group, with the medium-dose group showing more pronounced therapeutic effects than the low-and high-dose groups. In vitro results demonstrated that KAE treatment significantly enhanced NPC proliferation activity, down-regulated the expression levels of Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax), interleukin-6(IL-6), interleukin-17A(IL-17A), MMP3, and a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 5, and inhibited the phosphorylation of p38 MAPK pathway-related proteins. Activation of the p38 MAPK signaling pathway by anisomycin reduced the therapeutic effects of KAE. The study concluded that KAE could improve the proliferation activity of degenerated NPCs, reduce inflammation levels, and slow the progression of IDD in rats, and the mechanism was likely related to the regulation of the p38 MAPK signaling pathway.
