1.Research progress on interactions between medicinal plants and microorganisms.

The interactions between microorganisms and medicinal plants are crucial to the quality improvement of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants attract microorganisms to colonize by secreting specific compounds and provide niche and nutrient support for these microorganisms, with a symbiotic network formed. These microorganisms grow in the rhizosphere, phyllosphere, and endophytic tissues of plants and significantly improve the growth performance and medicinal component accumulation of medicinal plants by promoting nutrient uptake, enhancing disease resistance, and regulating the synthesis of secondary metabolites. Microorganisms are also widely used in the ecological planting of medicinal plants, and the growth conditions of medicinal plants are optimized by simulating the microbial effects in the natural environment. The interactions between microorganisms and medicinal plants not only significantly improve the yield and quality of medicinal plants but also enhance their geoherbalism, which is in line with the concept of green agriculture and eco-friendly development. This study reviewed the research results on the interactions between medicinal plants and microorganisms in recent years and focused on the analysis of the great potential of microorganisms in optimizing the growth environment of medicinal plants, regulating the accumulation of secondary metabolites, inducing systemic resistance, and promoting the ecological planting of medicinal plants. It provides a scientific basis for the research on the interactions between medicinal plants and microorganisms, the research and development of microbial agents, and the application of microorganisms in the ecological planting of medicinal plants and is of great significance for the quality improvement of medicinal plants and the green and sustainable development of TCM resources.

2.Long-distance transport of pathogens by migratory birds and spillover of pathogens between migratory birds and poultry

Migratory birds are found worldwide.These birds are natural carriers of pathogens,because of their long-distance mi-grations across different climatic and geographic regions.The pathogens carried by migratory birds can enter ecosystems along migra-tory routes through direct and indirect contact between animal hosts,thereby potentially threatening the health of local poultry and even humans.Herein,we systematically analyzed evidence of pathogen spillover between migratory birds and poultry,and summa-rized the three modes of long-distance pathogen transmission by migratory birds(internal carriage,surface carriage,and environmen-tal contamination),as well as the two pathways of pathogen spillover between migratory birds and poultry(direct contact and indirect contact).Furthermore,this study proposes a multi-tiered mitigation strategy,grounded in the One Health framework,for targeting animal-environment-human interfaces to decrease the pathogen transmission risks associated with migratory birds.Key interventions include establishing an early-warning surveillance system for migratory flyways,enhancing biosecurity protocols in poultry production systems,and developing cross-regional risk assessment models for pathogen spread.Our findings provide critical theoretical founda-tions and empirical evidence for preventing zoonotic disease emergence and safeguarding sustainable poultry production.This inte-grated approach advances the coordinated development of biosafety measures and global health security.

Objective To investigate the incidence rate,clinical characteristics,and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen,China.Methods Led by Shenzhen Children's Hospital,the Shenzhen Neonatal Data Collaboration Network organized 21 institutions to collect 36 cases of neonatal stroke from January 2020 to December 2022.The incidence,clinical characteristics,treatment,and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen were analyzed.Results The incidence rate of neonatal stroke in 21 hospitals from 2020 to 2022 was 1/15 137,1/6 060,and 1/7 704,respectively.Ischemic stroke accounted for 75%(27/36);boys accounted for 64%(23/36).Among the 36 neonates,31(86%)had disease onset within 3 days after birth,and 19(53%)had convulsion as the initial presentation.Cerebral MRI showed that 22 neonates(61%)had left cerebral infarction and 13(36%)had basal ganglia infarction.Magnetic resonance angiography was performed for 12 neonates,among whom 9(75%)had involvement of the middle cerebral artery.Electroencephalography was performed for 29 neonates,with sharp waves in 21 neonates(72%)and seizures in 10 neonates(34%).Symptomatic/supportive treatment varied across different hospitals.Neonatal Behavioral Neurological Assessment was performed for 12 neonates(33%,12/36),with a mean score of(32±4)points.The prognosis of 27 neonates was followed up to around 12 months of age,with 44%(12/27)of the neonates having a good prognosis.Conclusions Ischemic stroke is the main type of neonatal stroke,often with convulsions as the initial presentation,involvement of the middle cerebral artery,sharp waves on electroencephalography,and a relatively low neurodevelopment score.Symptomatic/supportive treatment is the main treatment method,and some neonates tend to have a poor prognosis.
5.Intervention Effect and Mechanism of Regulating MiR-155 on Young Rats with Dysfunction of Blood Coagulation

Objective:To investigate the intervention effect and mechanism of regulating miR-155 on young rats with dysfunction of blood coagulation.Methods:Twenty-six healthy and clean SD male rats were selected to establish the coagulopathy models.Twenty-four rats successfully established models and were randomly divided into three groups:model group,up-regulated miR-155 group and down-regulated miR-155 group,with 8 rats in each group.The expression of miR-155 was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction.The changes of coagulation factors and coagulation indicators were observed.Liver pathological tissues were observed by HE staining.The expressions of HMGB1-RAGE/TLRs-NF-κB signaling pathway related proteins were detected by Western blot.Results:Compared with model group,the expressions of HMGB1,RAGE,TLR2,TLR4 and NF-κB were significantly increased in up-regulated miR-155 group(all P<0.05),while decreased in down-regulated miR-155 group(all P<0.05).Compared with model group,the expressions of coagulation factor Ⅱ,Ⅶ,Ⅸ,and X were significantly decreased in up-regulated miR-155 group(all P<0.05),while increased in down-regulated miR-155 group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the expression of coagulation factor Ⅺ among the three groups(P>0.05).Compared with model group,the levels of prothrombin time(PT)and activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT)were lower and fibrinogen(FIB)was higher in up-regulated miR-155 group(all P<0.05),while in the down-regulated miR-155 group they were opposite.Conclusion:Down-regulation of miR-155 can effectively improve coagulation factors and coagulation indexes and inhibit inflammation in young rats with dysfunction of blood coagulopathy,and the mechanism may be related to HMGB1-RAGE/TLRs-NF-κ B signaling pathway.
6.The Endoplasmic Reticulum-associated Degradation System Regulates Mitochondrial Energy Metabolism Activity via Ca2+in Hepatocytes

In hepatocytes,the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria work together in a reciprocal manner to regulate the physiological functions of the cells.Nevertheless,its precise mechanism remains unknown.Endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) is a key process for maintaining pro-tein quality in the endoplasmic reticulum.Recent studies have found that ERAD can regulate the adipo-cyte mitochondrial function through mitochondria associated membranes (MAMs).However,it is still unknown how exactly ERAD and mitochondria interact with one another in hepatocytes.In this study,chemical induction and gene deletion were used to induce ERAD deficiency in HepG2 cells.To investi-gate the effect of ERAD on mitochondrial function in hepatocytes,we employed fluorescent labelling,flow analysis,immunoblotting and other methods.The results demonstrated that ERAD dysfunction resulted in a reduction in the mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP levels in HepG2 cells (P<0.01) .Fur-thermore,ERAD dysfunction also disrupted the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondrial Ca2+homeosta-sis in HepG2 cells,and improved mitochondrial energy metabolism function when endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+release was reduced (P<0.05) .These findings were further validated in ERAD dysfunctional pri-mary hepatocytes,which had been induced by pharmacological agents.The data above indicate that ERAD plays a key regulatory role in endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondrial interactions in hepatocytes.En-hanced ERAD function may boost mitochondrial activity in hepatocytes.This study offers fresh perspec-tives on disorders linked to mitochondrial malfunction.

8.Genotyping Characteristics of Human Fecal Escherichia coli and Their Association with Multidrug Resistance in Miyun District, Beijing.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the genotyping characteristics of human fecal Escherichia coli( E. coli) and the relationships between antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and multidrug resistance (MDR) of E. coli in Miyun District, Beijing, an area with high incidence of infectious diarrheal cases but no related data.
METHODS:
Over a period of 3 years, 94 E. coli strains were isolated from fecal samples collected from Miyun District Hospital, a surveillance hospital of the National Pathogen Identification Network. The antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates was determined by the broth microdilution method. ARGs, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), and polymorphism trees were analyzed using whole-genome sequencing data (WGS).
RESULTS:
This study revealed that 68.09% of the isolates had MDR, prevalent and distributed in different clades, with a relatively high rate and low pathogenicity. There was no difference in MDR between the diarrheal (49/70) and healthy groups (15/24).
CONCLUSION
We developed a random forest (RF) prediction model of TEM.1 + baeR + mphA + mphB + QnrS1 + AAC.3-IId to identify MDR status, highlighting its potential for early resistance identification. The causes of MDR are likely mobile units transmitting the ARGs. In the future, we will continue to strengthen the monitoring of ARGs and MDR, and increase the number of strains to further verify the accuracy of the MDR markers.

9.Neutralizing Antibody Responses against Five SARS-CoV-2 Variants and T Lymphocyte Change after Vaccine Breakthrough Infections from the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 Variant in Tianjin, China: A Prospective Study.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate whether Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection after receiving the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine could create a strong immunity barrier.
METHODS:
Blood samples were collected at two different time points from 124 Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infected patients and 124 controls matched for age, gender, and vaccination profile. Live virus-neutralizing antibodies against five SARS-CoV-2 variants, including WT, Gamma, Beta, Delta, and Omicron BA.1, and T-lymphocyte lymphocyte counts in both groups were measured and statistically analyzed.
RESULTS:
The neutralizing antibody titers against five different variants of SARS-CoV-2 were significantly increased in the vaccinated population infected with the Omicron BA.1 variant at 3 months after infection, but mainly increased the antibody level against the WT strain, and the antibody against the Omicron strain was the lowest. The neutralizing antibody level decreased rapidly 6 months after infection. The T-lymphocyte cell counts of patients with mild and moderate disease recovered at 3 months and completely returned to the normal state at 6 months.
CONCLUSION
Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection mainly evoked humoral immune memory in the original strain after vaccination and hardly produced neutralizing antibodies specific to Omicron BA.1. Neutralizing antibodies against the different strains declined rapidly and showed features similar to those of influenza. Thus, T-lymphocytes may play an important role in recovery.

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the risk factors for neonatal asphyxia in Hubei Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and establish a nomogram model for predicting the risk of neonatal asphyxia.
METHODS:
A retrospective study was conducted with 613 cases of neonatal asphyxia treated in 20 cooperative hospitals in Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture from January to December 2019 as the asphyxia group, and 988 randomly selected non-asphyxia neonates born and admitted to the neonatology department of these hospitals during the same period as the control group. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify risk factors for neonatal asphyxia. R software (4.2.2) was used to establish a nomogram model. Receiver operator characteristic curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis were used to assess the discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness of the model for predicting the risk of neonatal asphyxia, respectively.
RESULTS:
Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that minority (Tujia), male sex, premature birth, congenital malformations, abnormal fetal position, intrauterine distress, maternal occupation as a farmer, education level below high school, fewer than 9 prenatal check-ups, threatened abortion, abnormal umbilical cord, abnormal amniotic fluid, placenta previa, abruptio placentae, emergency caesarean section, and assisted delivery were independent risk factors for neonatal asphyxia (P<0.05). The area under the curve of the model for predicting the risk of neonatal asphyxia based on these risk factors was 0.748 (95%CI: 0.723-0.772). The calibration curve indicated high accuracy of the model for predicting the risk of neonatal asphyxia. The decision curve analysis showed that the model could provide a higher net benefit for neonates at risk of asphyxia.
CONCLUSIONS
The risk factors for neonatal asphyxia in Hubei Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture are multifactorial, and the nomogram model based on these factors has good value in predicting the risk of neonatal asphyxia, which can help clinicians identify neonates at high risk of asphyxia early, and reduce the incidence of neonatal asphyxia.
