Objective To compare the surgical outcomes of the sequence of screw and rod placement for Lenke type 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS).Methods Lenke type 5C AIS patients who underwent posterior orthopedic fusion and fixation in our hospital from Jan.2013 to Dec.2020 were recruited.Based on surgical sequences,22 cases were assigned to bilateral group(after bilateral screw placement, orthopedics was performed on the convex side and then on the concave side),and 20 cases were assigned to convex group(screws placed on the convex side and performed orthopedics, followed by the concave side). The operation-related indicators(including operation time),imaging parameters, quality of life scores were compared between the 2 groups before and 2 years after surgery.Complications of the 2 groups were analyzed. Results The operation time in the bilateral group was significantly longer than that in the convex group([232.8±13.1]min vs[198.4±16.5]min,P<0.01).At the last follow-up 2 years after operation, the Cobb angle and its correction rate in the convex group were better than those in the bilateral group([8.0±2.3]° vs[9.9±3.2]°,P=0.03;[81.9±5.4]%vs[77.8±5.8]%,P=0.02).The rate of pedicle screw breach rate was 5.4%(17/312)in the bilateral group and 1.4%(4/280)in the convex group, with significant difference(P<0.01).At the last follow-up 2 years after operation, the treatment satisfaction of quality of life assessment of the bilateral group was 4.61±1.38,and that of the convex group was 4.50±1.44,but there was no significant difference between the 2 groups(P>0.05).There were no abnormal electrophysiological monitoring or operation-related complications in the 2 groups. Conclusion For Lenke type 5C AIS,the convex side of pedicle screw placement and orthopedics followed by concave side of pedicle screw placement and orthopedics can achieve better surgical effect.

Objective:To explore the predictive value of preoperative frailty assessment using the Geriatric 8 (G8) screening tool for postoperative complications in elderly patients with radical prostatectomy. Methods:In this prospective cohort study, 145 elderly patients who underwent radical prostatectomy in the Urology Department of the Affiliated Central Hospital of Jiangnan University between September 2023 and March 2024 were selected using convenience sampling method. Preoperatively, frailty was assessed using the G8 screening tool. Postoperatively, complications within 30 days were evaluated using the Clavien-Dindo classification. The predictive value of the G8 frailty score for postoperative complications was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results:The preoperative frailty incidence among the 145 elderly patients with radical prostatectomy was 43.45% (63/145). The postoperative complication rate was 63.49% (40/63) in the frail patients and 13.41% (11/82) in the non-frail patients, with a statistically significant difference (χ 2=39.184, P<0.01). After adjusting for age, smoking history, polypharmacy, albumin, tumor stage, International Prostate Symptom Score, and activities of daily living, the risk of postoperative complications in the frail patients was 6.011 times higher than in the non-frail patients [ OR=6.011, 95% CI (2.177, 16.594) ]. The area under the ROC curve for G8 frailty score in predicting postoperative complications was 0.798 [95% CI (0.723, 0.873) ] . Conclusions:Elderly patients undergoing radical prostatectomy with frailty have a higher incidence of postoperative complications. G8 screening tool has good efficacy in predicting the risk of postoperative complications in elderly prostate cancer patients.

Single-cell or low-input multi-omics techniques have revolutionized the study of pre-implantation embryo development. However, the single-cell or low-input proteomic research in this field is rela-tively underdeveloped because of the higher threshold of the starting material for mammalian embryo samples and the lack of hypersensitive proteome technology. In this study,a comprehensive solution of ultrasensitive proteome technology(CS-UPT)was developed for single-cell or low-input mouse oocyte/embryo samples. The deep coverage and high-throughput routes significantly reduced the starting material and were selected by investigators based on their demands.Using the deep coverage route,we provided the first large-scale snapshot of the very early stage of mouse maternal-to-zygotic transition, including almost 5,500 protein groups from 20 mouse oocytes or zygotes for each sample. Moreover, significant protein regulatory networks centered on transcription factors and kinases between the MII oocyte and 1-cell embryo provided rich insights into minor zygotic genome activation.

BACKGROUNDA positive association between the ABO blood types and survival has been suggested in several malignancies. The aim of this study was to assess the role of the ABO blood types in predicting the prognosis of Chinese patients with curatively resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed 1601 consecutive Chinese patients who underwent curative surgery for NSCLC between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2009. The relationship between the ABO blood types and survival was investigated. In addition, univariate and multivariate analyses were performed.
RESULTSGroup 1 (patients with the blood type O or B) had significantly prolonged overall survival (OS) compared with group 2 (patients with the blood type A or AB), with a median OS of 74.9 months versus 61.5 months [hazard ratio (HR) 0.83; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.72-0.96; P = 0.015]. Additionally, group 1 had significantly longer disease-free survival (DFS; HR 0.86; 95% CI 0.76-0.98; P = 0.022) and locoregional relapse-free survival (LRFS; HR 0.79; 95% CI 0.64-0.98; P = 0.024) than group 2. The association was not significantly modified by other risk factors for NSCLC, including smoking status, pathologic tumor-node-metastasis stage, pT category, pN category, and chemotherapy.
CONCLUSIONSThere is an association between the ABO blood types and the survival of Chinese patients with resected NSCLC. Patients with the blood type O or B had significantly prolonged OS, DFS, and LRFS compared with those with the blood type A or AB.
