Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease affecting the colon(particularly the descending colon and sigmoid)and rectum.UC primarily presents with persistent or recurrent diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloody stools, and other symptoms. The primary pathological mechanism of UC involves intestinal barrier injury. When the intestinal barrier function is compromised, characterized by loss of epithelial layer integrity, thinning of the mucus layer, and microbiota dysregulation, pathogenic microorganisms can infiltrate the lamina propria from the intestinal lumen through the damaged barrier, triggering and exacerbating the intestinal inflammatory response.Current treatments for UC are limited by high costs, numerous adverse reactions, and a high likelihood of relapse.Consequently, there is an urgent need for the development of new drugs that can effectively and safely treat UC.Natural products have become significant research targets in treating various diseases due to their broad biological activity, multiple action targets, low toxicity, and easy availability. They play a crucial role in the targeted repair of the intestinal barrier, with potential mechanisms including enhancing intes-tinal epithelial cells and their secreted proteins, regulating gut microbiota and its metabolism, and balancing immune cell subsets.Additionally,it is essential to consider the synergistic effects, bioavailability, and safety of natural products. This paper summarizes the natural products reported in the past five years for their anti-UC properties by repairing the intestinal barrier, providing a theoretical basis for the development and application of natural products in anti-UC drugs.

OBJECTIVE To explore the epidemiological characteristics of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/ac-quired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)complicated with anorectal diseases and analyze the clinical character-istics of the HIV-positive patients with perianal abscess.METHODS Totally 152 HIV/AIDS patients who were complicated with anorectal diseases and were treated in The Eighth Hospital of Wuhan from Jan.2020 to Dec.2023 were recruited as the research subjects,36 of whom had perianal abscess. The manifestations of anorec-tal diseases, treatment status and incidence rates of the diseases among the patients with different clinical charac-teristics in the different years were statistically analyzed. The clinical characteristics of the HIV-positive patients with perianal abscess were observed.RESULTS Of the 152 HIV/AIDS patients complicated with anorectal disea-ses,51.97%had mixed hemorrhoid, and 23.68%had perianal abscess. The number of patients with HIV/AIDS complicated with anorectal diseases gradually increased from 2020 to 2023;while the incidence rate of male, aged between 30 and 40 years old, married individuals, those with primary school education or below and famers were relatively high.Among the HIV/AIDS patients complicated with anorectal diseases,139 underwent surgical pro-cedures,and 23 did not.Among the 36 HIV-positive patients with perianal abscess,97.22%were male,50.00%were aged between 20 and 30 years old,and 44.44%were married.CONCLUSIONS The number of HIV/AIDS patients complicated with anorectal diseases is gradually increased from 2020 to 2023;the incidence rates are rela-tively high among the patients who are male, aged between 30 and 40 years old, married, with primary school edu-cation or below and famers.Perianal abscess and mixed hemorrhoid are the major types of anorectal diseases.Sur-gical procedures are recommended for HIV/AIDS patients complicated with anorectal diseases, while the HIV-positive patients with perianal abscess are dominated by the population of male, aged between 20 and 30 years old and married. It is necessary to attach great importance to the detection of pathological characteristics of the HIV-positive patients with perianal abscess so as to take appropriate treatment measures to improve the therapeutic effect.

Objective To explore the correlation between ostiomeatal complex(OMC)variation, nasal septum deviation and nasosinusitis with CT imaging. Methods The clinical and imaging data of 256 patients undergoing nasal and paranasal CT examination from June 1, 2015 to May 30, 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with paranasal sinus fractures, tumors and artifacts were not included in this study.Taking the image of standard coronal MPR built with thin axial sections at the level of middle of semilunar fissure as observing image, and the direction, location and extent of OMC variations were observed and recorded. The patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of nasal septum deviation.OMC mutation, the incidence of unilateral mutation, incidence of paranasal sinusitis and the incidence of unilateral bilateral nasal sinusitis between the two groups was analyzed by χ2test with two independent samples. Then according to the presence or absence of OMC mutation, the patients were divided into two groups. The incidence of paranasal sinusitis and bilateral paranasal sinusitis were compared between the two groups. Results Two hundred and fifty six cases of CT imging of parannasal sinus were included in the study,96 cases were with nasal septum deviation, 160 were with non-deviation of nasal septum. The incidence rate of OMC variation between the two groups showed significant difference(χ2=38.40,P<0.05).The incidence rate of unilateral and bilateral OMC variation showed significant difference(χ2=13.70,P<0.05),among which 54 were unilateral variations,50(92.6%)variations were located at the same side of nasal deviation(side of the nasal cavity widened). The incidence rate of sinusitis between the two groups showed non-significant difference(χ2=0.50,P>0.05).The incidence rate between unilateral and bilateral nasosinusitis showed non-significant difference(χ2=2.25,P>0.05).Of the 256 cases,128 were with OMC variations, and 128 were with non-OMC variation. The incidence rate of nasosinusitis between the two groups showed non-significant difference(χ2=0.56,P>0.05). The incidence rate between unilateral and bilateral nasosinusitis showed non-significant difference(χ2=3.57,P>0.05). Conclusion Ipsilateral OMC variation occurred in nasal septum deviation might be a compensation to nasal cavity widening while not a obstructive factor in causing nasosinusitis.

It is generally accepted that both Parkinson's disease (PD) and cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) are chronic diseases of central nervous system which are very common in middle aged and elderly people.Although their clinical manifestations are different,a large number of studies have shown that there is similar pathogenesis in many respects, including age, genetic factors, environmental factors, oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction.Furthermore, inflammation is one of the important pathogenesis of PD and it aggravates the damage of dopamine neurons;inflammatory mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of CSVD,which may be involved in the pathogenesis of PD due to the immune responses that produce or accelerate the damage of dopaminergic neurons. This article will describe the relationship between PD and CSVD from the perspective of inflammation.

ObjectiveTo study the correlation between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features and Nottingham prognostic index (NPI) in patients with breast carcinoma. Methods The ultrasound features and microvascular imaging manifestation of 91 breast carcinomas confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed.NPI was typically stratified into 3 major groups:NPI < 3.4 ( n =19 ), NPI:3.4-5.4 ( n =52 ) and NPI >5.4(n =21 ). Results With the increase of NPI, the rate of heterogeneous enhancement, perfusion defects, edge enhancement higher than center enhancement, and unclear border increased. The difference among the 3 groups had statistical significance (P < 0.05 ).There was no significant difference in enhancement order among the 3 groups ( P > 0.05 ).The lesions of the 3 groups were mainly “high enhancement” and there was no significant difference among the 3 groups ( P > 0.05 ).With the increase of NPI, the rate of early enhancement and late regression increased. The difference among the 3 groups had statistical significance ( P < 0.05 ).With the increase of NPI, the rate of enlarged and twisted vessels as well as peripheral vessel burr increased. There was significant difference among the 3 groups ( P < 0.05 ).ConclusionCEUS festures and microvescular architecture pattern of breast carcinoma are related to NPI, which is useful in predicating the prognosis of breast carcinoma.
