Journal of Preventive Medicine 2025;37(7):732-736
Objective:
To analyze the current status and influencing factors of postpartum depression symptoms among elderly multipara, so as to provide a basis for health management among elderly pregnant women.
Methods:
Multipara aged ≥35 years who underwent 42-day postpartum check-ups in Hangzhou Gynecology and Gynecology Hospital from October 2023 to October 2024 were selected as survey subjects using convenience sampling method. Demographic information, sleep quality and feeding methods data were collected using questionnaires. The postpartum depressive symptoms, parenting stress, and social support levels were assessed using the Chinese version of the Simplified Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Parenting Stress Inventory-Short Form, and Perceived Social Support Scale, respectively. Factors affecting postpartum depression symptoms among elderly multipara were analyzed through multivariable logistic regression model.
Results:
A total of 355 elderly multipara were surveyed. The average age was (38.19±2.10) years. There were 228 cesarean deliveries (64.23%) in this pregnancy. There were 21 cases (5.92%) of unplanned pregnancy and 21 cases (5.92%) of preterm birth. The parenting stress score was (72.56±11.08) points, and the social support score was (60.42±8.50) points. Postpartum depression symptoms was detected in 106 elderly multipara, with a detection rate of 29.86%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that monthly household income per capita (≥5 000 yuan, OR=0.470, 95%CI: 0.281-0.785), unplanned pregnancy (yes, OR=2.619, 95%CI: 1.427-4.809), preterm delivery (yes,OR=4.105, 95%CI: 1.848-9.113), poor sleep quality (yes, OR=3.556, 95%CI: 1.659-7.595), feeding methods (mixed feeding, OR=1.483, 95%CI: 1.030-2.135; artificial feeding, OR=4.510, 95%CI: 2.018-10.070), parenting stress (OR=1.206, 95%CI: 1.162-1.441), and social support (OR=0.255, 95%CI: 0.111-0.420) were factors affecting postpartum depression symptoms among elderly multipara.
Conclusion
The detection rate of postpartum depression symptoms among elderly multiparas is relatively high, is associated with family economic status, pregnancy planning status, preterm delivery, sleep quality, feeding methods, parenting stress, and social support levels.

The liver regenerative capacity is crucial for patients with end-stage liver disease following partial hepatectomy (PHx). The specific bacteria and mechanisms regulating liver regeneration post-PHx remain unclear. This study demonstrated dynamic changes in the abundance of Parabacteroides distasonis (P. distasonis) post-PHx, correlating with hepatocyte proliferation. Treatment with live P. distasonis significantly promoted hepatocyte proliferation and liver regeneration after PHx. Targeted metabolomics revealed a significant positive correlation between P. distasonis and β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHB), as well as hyodeoxycholic acid and 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid in the gut after PHx. Notably, treatment with BHB, but not hyodeoxycholic acid or 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, significantly promoted hepatocyte proliferation and liver regeneration in mice after PHx. Moreover, STAT3 inhibitor Stattic attenuated the promotive effects of BHB on cell proliferation and liver regeneration both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, P. distasonis upregulated the expression of fatty acid oxidation-related proteins, and increased BHB levels in the liver, and then BHB activated the STAT3 signaling pathway to promote liver regeneration. This study, for the first time, identifies the involvement of P. distasonis and its associated metabolite BHB in promoting liver regeneration after PHx, providing new insights for considering P. distasonis and BHB as potential strategies for promoting hepatic regeneration.

Chinese Journal of Perinatal Medicine 2025;28(2):142-149
Objective:To investigate the risk factors for mortality in neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).Methods:This retrospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with NEC at stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ (Bell's criteria) and admitted to the Neonatology Department of Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University from January 2017 to December 2022. According to the outcomes, these patients were divided into the mortality and survival groups. Perinatal conditions, clinical manifestations, disease status during hospitalization, and blood routine parameters at different time points after birth were compared between the two groups to analyze the risk factors for mortality of NEC. Statistical analysis was performed using independent-sample t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test (or Fisher's exact test), and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results:(1) A total of 118 NEC cases were included, with 100 in the survival group and 18 in the mortality group. (2) The gestational age and birth weight were significantly lower in the mortality group than in the survival group [(28.9±4.2) weeks vs. (33.7±3.9) weeks, t=4.78; 940 g (685-1 275 g) vs. 1 830 g (1 352-2 368 g), Z=4.18; both P<0.05]. The incidence of neonatal asphyxia was higher in the mortality group [9/18 vs. 18% (18/100), χ2=7.13, P<0.05]. (3) Compared with the survival group, the mortality group had higher proportions of patients who were at NEC stage Ⅲ, accepted surgery, were treated with vasoactive drugs, had undergone invasive mechanical ventilation, or had metabolic acidosis, hyperlactatemia, shock, or hematochezia [17/18 vs. 24% (24/100), χ2=33.39; 17/18 vs. 31% (31/100), χ2=22.88; 16/18 vs. 22% (22/100), χ2=31.26; 16/18 vs. 39% (39/100), χ2=15.26; 18/18 vs. 28% (28/100), χ2=30.29; 16/18 vs. 20% (20/100), χ2=34.15; 17/18 vs. 21% (21/100), χ2=37.69; 9/18 vs. 82% (82/100), χ2=7.13; all P<0.05]. Objective To explore the effect of young plasma intraperitoneal injection on the fertility and ovarian function of aging mice and analyze its potential molecular mechanism. Methods Fifty-four-week-old female C57BL/6 mice and 8-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were selected.Among them, the female mice were randomly divided into three groups:the young plasma group, the aging plasma group and the normal saline group. The young plasma group and the aging plasma group received intraperitoneal injection of plasma from young(25-29 years old)and elderly(45-49 years old)female donors, respectively. Each injection was 500 μL,administered every other day for 2 weeks. The saline group received an equal volume of saline. After the last injection, mating experiments were conducted to evaluate fertility.Ovarian histopathological changes were observed by HE staining.Oocytes and fertilized eggs were collected after superovulation and cultured in vitro to assess oocyte quality and embryo developmental potential.Transcriptomic analysis of ovarian tissue was performed, followed by KEGG and GO enrichment analysis. Results Compared with the normal saline group and the aging plasma group, the number of offspring increased in the young plasma group, which reflected higher extrusion rate of first polar body(PB1),decreased fragmentation rate of oocytes and increased conversion rate of two-cell embryos and increased formation rate of blastocysts. There were no significant differences in these indicators between the aging plasma group and the normal saline group.Transcriptomic sequencing revealed that the differentially expressed genes in ovarian tissue of the young plasma group were mainly involved in steroid biosynthesis and metabolic pathways.Among them, the expression level of steroid sulfatase protein was significantly upregulated. Conclusion Systemic infusion of young plasma enhances the reproductive potential of aging ovaries in elderly mice. The sulfated steroid metabolites in plasma may be key substances in restoring ovarian function and delaying the process of ovarian aging.
