Objective To investigate the intervention effect of Xiao'er Zhixiao Pingchuan Granules(XEZXPCG)on ovalbumin(OVA)-induced airway remodeling in asthmatic mice and its potential mechanism by regulating macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)and inhibiting the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt)signaling pathway. Methods A total of 96 SPF-grade male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into blank, model,XEZXPCG low/medium/high-dose groups(2.05,4.10,and 8.20 g/kg),adeno-associated virus(AAV)NC shRNA,AAV MIF shRNA(MIF gene silencing),and LY294002(PI3K/Akt inhibitor,1 mg/kg)groups(12 mice in each group).Asthma models were established through OVA sensitization and challenge.Airway resistance and the proportions of inflammatory cells(eosinophils and macrophages)in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)were detected.Serum inflammatory factor(OVA-IgE,interleukin[IL]-1β,IL-6,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and interferon-gamma)levels and BALF were quantified.Hematoxylin and eosin,Masson, and periodic acid-Schiff staining were used to evaluate airway wall thickness(Wat/Phm),smooth muscle area(Wam/Phm),collagen deposition, and goblet cell metaplasia.Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and real-time fluorescence-qPCR were used to detect MIF protein and mRNA expressions,as well as activation markers of the PI3K/Akt pathway and cell cycle-related proteins(including cyclin-dependant kinase 6[CDK6],Cyclin D1,Cyclin D3,and p21),in lung tissues. Results Compared to the model group,a XEZXPCG medium or high-dose significantly reduced airway resistance(P<0.05),improved the imbalance of eosinophil and macrophage proportions in BALF,and decreased inflammatory factor levels in serum and BALF(P<0.05).XEZXPCG medium or high-dose alleviated airway epithelial damage, goblet cell hyperplasia, and collagen fiber deposition, and reduced the Wat/Phm and Wam/Phm(P<0.05),with effects comparable to those of the AAV MIF shRNA and LY294002 groups.XEZXPCG medium and high-inhibited MIF protein/mRNA expression(P<0.05),downregulated Akt phosphorylation(P<0.05),upregulated p21 protein expression, and downregulated Cyclin D1,Cyclin D3,and CDK6 expressions(P<0.05).Conclusion XEZXPCG alleviates airway inflammation and improves airway remodeling in OVA-induced asthmatic mice by inhibiting MIF expression, downregulating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, and regulating cell cycle progression.XEZXPCG enhances airway remodeling through MIF-mediated PI3K/Akt pathway regulation.

Objective To explore and summarize the locations, clinical manifestations, and treatment strategies of foreign bodies in the oral and maxillofacial region(FBOMR)among patients treated in our hospital, providing clinical insights and references for the pre-vention and management of FBOMR.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 17 FBOMR patients hos-pitalized in our hospital from May 2022 to May 2024.The demographic information, etiology of injury, characteristics of foreign bodies, extraction methods, surgical duration, complications, and follow-up outcomes were analyzed.Differences in treatment strategies among patients with varying injury patterns were compared. Results The average age of the 17 FBOMR patients was(45.71±18.19)years old, with a male to female ratio of 1∶0.7.Etiological analysis revealed:iatrogenic causes(58.82%,10/17),occupational exposure(23.53%,4/17),and accidental injuries(17.65%,3/17).Secondary infections occurred in 64.71%(11/17)of cases during foreign body retention. All cases underwent successful surgical removal, with the following approaches:conventional surgery(64.71%,11/17),computer navigation-assisted surgery(29.41%,5/17),and endoscope-assisted surgery(5.88%,1/17).Compared to the conventional group, computer navigation-assisted surgery significantly reduced intraoperative trauma(P<0.05).Conclusion Retained FBOMR poses serious risks to patients'physical and mental health.Surgical intervention remains the gold standard for clinical manage-ment.Precise three-dimensional localization and minimally invasive techniques, such as computer-assisted navigation and endoscopy, are recommended to minimize tissue damage and improve outcomes.

Objective:To explore the characteristics of social skills and problem behaviors of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as the association with core symptoms. Methods:A total of 409 patients aged 5-18 years old with ASD or ADHD in the outpatient department of Nanjing Brain Hospital from 2023 to 2024, and 344 children and adolescents with typical development(TD) were recruited. All participants were matched in a ratio of 1∶1∶1 (ASD∶ADHD∶TD) according to gender and age, and 97 participants were included in each group for analysis. The Chinese version of the social skills improvement system rating scales(SSIS-RS-C) was used to evaluate social skills and problem behaviors, and autistic child behavior checklist(ABC), childhood autism rating scale(CARS), the Chinese version of the social communication questionnaire(SCQ) and the Chinese version of Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham, version Ⅳ scale-parent form(SNAP-Ⅳ) were used to evaluate the core symptoms of ASD and ADHD, respectively. SPSS 26.0 software was used to perform variance, Chi-square test, Spearman correlation analysis and multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results:The social skills score of ASD group was lower than ADHD group ((61.53±24.26) vs (80.89±15.19), P<0.05), while the problem behavior score of ASD group was higher than ADHD group ((38.82±11.92) vs (34.00±12.45), P<0.05). In ASD group, the scores of ABC, CARS and SCQ were negatively correlated with the score of social skills ( r=-0.26--0.55, P<0.05). In ADHD group, the total score and each subscale of SNAP-Ⅳ were positively correlated with the score of problem behavior ( r=0.25-0.65, P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that empathy was a negative influencing factor of ASD ( B=-0.246, OR=0.782, P<0.05), and hyperactivity/inattention was a positive influencing factor of ASD ( B=0.589, OR=1.802, P<0.01), while only hyperactivity/inattention was a positive influencing factor of ADHD( B=0.779, OR=2.180, P<0.01). Conclusion:Children and adolescents with ASD and ADHD both have defects in social skills and problem behaviors, and these defects are associated with the core characteristics of their respective diseases.

The rich club, as a community of highly interconnected nodes, serves as the topological center of the network. However, the similarities and differences in how the rich club supports functional integration and segregation in the brain across different species remain unknown. In this study, we first detected and validated the rich club in the structural networks of mouse, monkey, and human brains using neuronal tracing or diffusion magnetic resonance imaging data. Further, we assessed the role of rich clubs in functional integration, segregation, and balance using quantitative metrics. Our results indicate that the presence of a rich club facilitates whole-brain functional integration in all three species, with the functional networks of higher species exhibiting greater integration. These findings are expected to help to understand the relationship between brain structure and function from the perspective of brain evolution.
