Helicobacter pylori(Hp)is responsible for chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and even gastric cancers.Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent or treat Hp infections. Here,we described the chemical synthesis of α-1,6-glucans with different lengths(di-to hexasaccharide),which are present in the core oligosaccharide of Hp lipopolysaccharide(LPS).The 1,2-cis-glucosidic bonds were constructed successfully using a synergistic glycosylation strategy based on acyl remote participation and solvent effects. The results of glycan microarrays indicated that all synthesized α-1,6-glucan fragments possessed a strong binding to IgG antibodies in both rabbit serum immunized with Hp O1 LPS and patient serum infected with Hp.The α-1,6-linked trisaccharide exhibited strong binding affinity to anti-LPS rabbit IgG antibodies. The α-1,6-glucan trisaccharide and pentasaccharide elicited a strong response to IgG antibodies in sera of most Hp-infected patients. Some patients'sera exhibited strong binding activity with α-1,6-linked disaccharide. The results suggest that the α-1,6-glucan disaccharide, trisaccharide and pentasaccharide could be important carbohydrate antigen fragments in Hp lipopolysaccharide.

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang for benign essential blepharospasm (BEB). Methods: A prospective randomized controlled trial was performed. A total of 105 participants were randomized 1:1:1 into an acupuncture group, a herbal medicine group and an acupuncture plus herbal medicine group. Participants in the acupuncture group received manual acupuncture treatment, twice a week. Participants in the herbal medicine group received Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang, oral administration, once a day. Participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group received both treatments. The therapeutic effects of the three groups were evaluated after four weeks of treatment. The primary outcome was the Jankovic rating scale (JRS) score, and the secondary outcome was the blepharospasm disability index (BSDI) score. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the JRS total scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05). A greater reduction in the JRS total score was reported in participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the herbal medicine group (P>0.05). The acupuncture plus herbal medicine group had a greater decrease in the JRS severity score than the herbal medicine group (P<0.05). The reduction in the JRS frequency score was not significantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). The BSDI scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05), but the reduction in the BSDI score was insignificantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: It is effective in the treatment of BEB either to use acupuncture and Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang alone or in combination. The combination therapy shows a more significant effect than either of the treatment alone.

The magnamosis device for stage-one repair of the rectovaginal tistula consists of two arc magnets. Drawing the interrupting thread along the fistula margin via the vaginal side, and pulling the string to arrange the magnets at the fistula base along the long axis of the vagina, we made the magnamosis device automatically clipped to seal the fistula. After removing the threads we kept the device for 2-4 weeks till the natural detachment of it when the compressed tissue in between healed after vascular necrosis. This device utilizing the unique ability of magnamosis to fulfill anastomosis under inflammatory infected state reduces the current high relapse rate and colostomy drawbacks of the conventional rectovaginal neoplasty.

Cognitive impairment in diabetes (CID) is a severe chronic complication of diabetes mellitus, and its pathogenesis has not yet been fully understood. Increasing evidence has shown that the distribution and expression of N-methyl-D-aspartame receptor (NMDAR) and subunits NR2A and NR2B, which all participated in the development of the central nervous system and formation of learning and memory, are correlated with the occurrence and development of CID.

Journal of Kunming Medical University 2013;(12):149-152
Diabetic cognitive impairment is one of the chronic complications of diabetes, and the pathogenesis has not yet been fully clarified. In recent years, more and more studies of CID showed that the changes of NMDA receptor and subunits NR2A and NR2B might be important during the period of the diabetes, and they are associated with the mechanism of cognitive impairment. This article makes a summary on these researches so as to lay the foundation for a further study.

Objective To investigate the plasma level of SDF-1a in patients with breast cancer after modified radical mastectomy and chemotherapy, and to evaluate the value of serum SDF-1a half-life for predicting breast cancer recurrence and metastasis. The correlation of SDF-1 a half-life and breast cancer recurrence and metastasis after treatment were retrospectively analyzed. Methods Serum chemokine SDF-1a of 112 cases of breast cancer were detected before and after modified radical surgery, and 1 day beforeeach chemotherapy session. SDF-1a levels and the dynamic changes in the process were observed and calculated. Results In 85 cases with no recurrence and metastasis the plasma level of SDF-1 a decreased rapidly to normal level ,while that in 27 cases with recurrence and metastasis was on high level with the halflife of SDF-1a being longer than that in no recurrence group(P <0. 01 ). Taking SDF-1a half-life ≥14 d as cut off point to predict breast cancer recurrence and metastasis after treatment, the sensitivity is 81.5%,specificity is 70. 6 %, and accuracy is 73.2%. Conclusions Serum SDF-1a half-life is a valuable marker in predicting postoperative breast cancer recurrence and metastasis.
