AIM:To investigate the effect of apoptosis stimulation protein 2(ASPP2)on the development of traumatic proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR)in a rabbit model.METHODS:A total of 30 New Zealand white rabbits were selected, and the right eyes of all rabbits were inflicted with a scleral penetrating wound of approximately 6 mm. Then rabbits were randomly and evenly divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group received an intravitreal injection of 0.1 mL of ARPE-19 cell suspension transfected with lentivirus-ASPP2, while the control group received an intravitreal injection of 0.1 mL of ARPE-19 cell suspension transfected with negative control lentivirus. At 1, 2, 3, and 4 wk after PVR modeling, a handheld tonometer was used to measure the intraocular pressure. Moreover, fundus photography and ocular ultrasound examination were performed to detect the retinal proliferation. At 4 wk after modeling, hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the morphological retinal changes, and Western blot was used to determine the protein expressions of ASPP2 and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)marker Vimentin in the rabbit retinas.RESULTS:At 1, 2, 3, and 4 wk after modeling, there were no significant changes in intraocular pressure within the experimental and control group of rabbit eyes, either before or after PVR modeling, the success rate of PVR modeling in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05), and the retinal proliferation and structural disorder was less severe in the experimental group. At 4 wk after modeling, the retinal protein expression level of ASPP2 in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(t=3.193, P=0.033), while the Vimentin protein expression level was significantly lower in the experimental group(t=-3.599, P=0.023).CONCLUSION:ASPP2 may be involved in regulating the process of EMT in retinal pigment epithelial cells, thereby delaying the development and progression of traumatic PVR in rabbit eyes.

Objective:To survey the status of radiological diagnostic equipment, protective equipment and articles, personnel allocation, and exposure frequencies in Linyi city, Shandong province, and to provide data support for rational allocation of radiological resources and radiological health management. Methods:In 2023, a questionnaire survey was conducted of radiological diagnostic resources in 353 medical health institutions with radiological diagnostic equipment (excluding simple dental clinics, hereinafter referred to as radiological diagnostic institutions) in Linyi. The survey included the radiological diagnostic equipment (including 16 types of equipment in 7 categories), protective equipment and articles, the number of staff, and the exposure frequencies of X-ray diagnosis. The comparisons were conducted using rank sum test of number of peices of equipment and article and staff number in institutions at different levels in different regions. Results:In 2023, the 353 radiological diagnostic institutions in Linyi were all equipped with radiological diagnostic equipment, summing 1 180 pieces. The median value M ( P25, P75) of the number of peices of radiological diagnostic equipment possessed by each diagnostic institution was 2 (2, 3). The highest proportion of a single piece of equipment was 35.4% for digital radiography (RD) machine and 32.5% for computed tomography (CT) scanner, respectively, followed by image intensifier fluoroscopes 7.9% and flat-panel detector fluoroscopes 7.6%, while computed radiography(CR), 3 kinds of breast X-ray machines, 4 kinds of dental CT machines, and bone densitometers accounted for less than 4.0% each. A total of 223 items of protection equipment (radiation monitoring devices) were equipped, about of 47.0%. The radiological diagnostic institution was each equipped with protective articles. A total of 5 709 protective articles were provided, mainly including lead rubber neck covers, lead rubber hats, and lead rubber aprons (accounting for over 20% each). In 2023, there were a total of 2 677 staff engaged in radiological diagnosis in Linyi, with the majority being male (62.9%). The M ( P25, P75) of staff was 3 (2, 5), including 2 (1, 4) males and 1 (0, 2) females. There were level differences in radiological diagnostic equipment ( χ2=109.04, P<0.05), protective articles ( χ2=83.05, P<0.05), and the number of staff ( χ2=96.90, P<0.05), with tertiary institutions significantly higher than other levels. In 2023, there were 107.8 pieces of radiological diagnostic equipment per million population (38.2 DR units and 35.0 CT scanners per million population) and 244 radiological diagnostic staff per million population (154 males and 90 females per million population) in Linyi. The exposure frequencies of radiological diagnosis in Linyi were 543.7 examinations per thousand population, with CT diagnosis having the highest frequency (342.7 examinations per thousand population), followed by X-ray photography (157.8 examinations per thousand population) during the survey period. Conclusions:In 2023, all the radiological diagnostic institutions in Linyi are equipped with diagnostic equipment and protective articles. The number of CT, DR, breast DR units possessed by every millions of population are higher than the national and Shandong provincial average levels. The overall radiological diagnostic resources are generally good. However, the allocation of radiological diagnostic resources is unbalanced to a certain degree, which currently mainly focuses on the tertiary institutions. At the same time, the bone density meters and breast X-ray machines are insufficient, and further adjustments and optimizations are needed in the future.

Objective:To observe the characteristics of gastrointestinal tract symptoms in patients with Parkinson′s disease (PD) and analyze the characteristics of these symptoms in patients with different PD subtypes. Methods:A total of 297 PD patients who were admitted to the Neurology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from November 2022 to March 2024 were enrolled. The gastrointestinal symptoms of PD patients were evaluated using Drooling Severity and Frequency Scale (DSFS), Sialorrhea Clinical Scale for Parkinson′s disease (SCS-PD), Drooling Rating Scale (DRS), Eating Assessment Tool 10 (EAT-10), Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI), and Rome Ⅳ diagnostic criteria. The patients were grouped based on the presence or absence of gastrointestinal symptoms. Additionally, they were stratified according to disease duration (≤2 years, 2-5 years, 5-10 years, and>10 years) and motor symptom subtype [tremor-dominant (TD) vs. postural instability and gait difficulty (PIGD)]. One-way ANOVA and logistic regression analysis were applied to examine between-group differences while Spearman correlation analysis was employed to assess correlations between clinical symptoms. Results:The average age of the patients with PD was 67.0 (60.0, 72.0) years, and 161 (54.2%) were male. The incidence of PD combined with gastrointestinal symptoms was, in descending order: constipation (191, 64.3%), salivation (155, 52.2%), gastroparesis (93, 31.3%), and dysphagia (68, 22.9%). Compared with PD patients without gastrointestinal symptoms, those with symptoms had higher scores in the RBD-HK [12.0 (5.0, 21.5) vs. 5.0 (0.0, 9.0), Z=-3.74, P=0.017], ESS [6.0 (2.0, 12.0) vs. 3.0 (0.0, 6.0), Z=-3.20, P=0.023], and MDS-UPDRS Part Ⅰ [9.0 (5.0, 14.0) vs. 5.0 (2.3, 9.0), Z=-3.61, P=0.014]. The severity of sialorrhea and deglutition disorders, along with the incidence of constipation, all increased with longer disease duration. Patients with the PIGD subtype had higher GCSI scores than those with the TD subtype [0.0 (0.0, 1.9) vs. 0.0 (0.0, 0.0), Z=-3.57, P=0.007]. Across the cohort, sialorrhea, deglutition disorders, gastroparesis, and constipation were positively associated with the H-Y stage, MDS-UPDRS Ⅰ, HAMD, NMSQ, and SCOPA-AUT; EAT-10 scores were negatively correlated with MoCA ( r=-0.171, P<0.05); and GCSI scores were negatively correlated with MMSE and MoCA ( r=-0.154, r=-0.169, both P<0.05). Conclusions:Overall, 84.5% of the patients with PD had one or more gastrointestinal symptoms, and the incidence and severity of gastrointestinal symptoms increased with disease duration. The severity of gastroparesis was higher in the PIGD group than in the TD group. The scores of all gastrointestinal symptoms were positively correlated with the H-Y stage and MDS-UPDRS Ⅰ, while the GCSI scores were negatively correlated with the cognitive scores.

Objective:To analyze the physical activity level of patients treated with a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary artery disease in the early out-of-hospital recovery phase, and the factors influencing it.Methods:Patients who had been discharged within the previous 6 months after their first PCI treatment were surveyed using a general information questionnaire, the long form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the Chinese version of the Tilburg Frailty Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, and for their ability in the activities of daily living. Epidemiological descriptive methods were used to analyze the reported physical activity levels, and multifactoral logistic regression was applied to explore the influencing factors. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve was drawn to evaluate the predictive value of the risk factors. Results:A total of 394 former patients were surveyed, including 117 (30%) reporting a low level of physical activity, 202 (51%) describing a moderate level and 75 (19%) claiming a high level. The univariate analysis revealed significant differences in physical activity levels among those of different ages, with different chronic co-morbidities, and with different frailty and self-care ability. Multifactoral logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age, chronic co-morbidities, frailty and little self-care ability are significant predictors of a low level of physical activity. The area under the ROC curve for predicting the physical activity level by combining those four factors was 0.89 (95% CI 0.84-0.94), with a sensitivity of 0.89 and a specificity of 0.80. Conclusions:The physical activity level of patients treated with PCI for coronary disease is moderately low early after their release from the hospital. Targeted intervention to increase it is called for.

Tumor immune microenvironment is a local external tumor environment composed of tumor immune cells and the cytokines secreted by these cells, and it plays a regulatory role in the development and progression of tumors. In the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, amino acid metabolism and its reprogramming of proliferating cell metabolism have attracted more and more attention, showing potential in regulating the tumor immune microenvironment. Although amino acid metabolic reprogramming is regarded as a novel approach for tumor therapy, its specific mechanism remains unclear in the regulation of tumor immunity in hepatocellular carcinoma. This article discusses the mechanism of action of amino acid metabolism in the tumor immune microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma and its application prospect in clinical practice, in order to provide new ideas for immunotherapy for liver cancer.
