This study aims to provide a brief overview of the history and development of global health education (GHE) as academic degree programs worldwide, and to identify GHE's development opportunities and obstacles in China. This is a state-of-the-art review of published and unpublished information that described and evaluated disci-plinary development of global health degree programs worldwide, written in English, and published or shared be-tween 1990 and 2020.Data were derived from official websites of leading global health institutions, like "Google Scholar","PubMed",and unpublished information such as presentation files and unpublished manuscripts col-lected from knowledgeable leaders in the field. We retrieved and reviewed a total of 35 articles and a large amount of unpublished information or sources on the internet.Global Health emerged as a new discipline around the end of the last millennium and proliferated in the last two decades in developed nations, especially the United States and the United Kingdom. The development of China's GHE programs was built on China's increasing engagement in global health affairs and research. In 2012,Wuhan University established the first official global health de-partment in China.Several universities such as Peking University and Duke Kunshan University subsequently set up departments or programs to offer undergraduate and postgraduate majors and degrees. The first school-level global health unit was established in Shanghai in 2019.The Consortium of Chinese Universities for Global Health(CCUGH) grew from 10 founding members in 2013 to 25 in 2020.Major desirable attributes "unique" to stu-dents majoring in global health include global-mindedness,health interests, compassion, intercultural sensitivity, and adventurous spirit.Graduates from GHE programs have a diverse set of career choices spanning research,government,not-for-profit,and private sector occupations. We identified a number of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the future development of GHE in China. To ensure sustainable future growth,we advocate addressing the following key aspects:(1) clearer disciplinary distinctions;(2) multidisciplinary col-laborations;(3) public-sector investments;and (4) non-public sectors participation.Amidst China's increasing engagement in health affairs globally and the proliferation of GHE programs in developed nations,China has experienced fast growth in GHE degree programs since 2012 while a number of challenges remain for its future development.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of electroacupuncture postconditioning on the expression of microRNA-1 (miRNA-1) in rats with arrhythmias induced by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R).Methods:Twenty-four clean-grade healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 2-3 months, weighing 280-320 g, were divided into 3 groups ( n=8 each) using a random number table method: sham operation group (S group), I/R group and electroacupuncture postconditioning group (EP group). The model of myocardial reperfusion arrhythmia was established by ligating the left anterior descending branch of coronary artery for 30 min followed by 30-min reperfusion in anesthetized rats. The artery was only isolated without ligation after thoracotomy in group S. Bilateral Neiguan acupoints were stimulated for 30 min starting from the time point immediately after reperfusion in EP group. The occurrence of arrhythmia during reperfusion was recorded. The rats were sacrificed at 30 min of reperfusion, and hearts were removed for examination of the pathological changes of the myocardium and for determination of miRNA-1 expression (by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction) and expression of Kir2.1 and connexin 43 (Cx43) (by Western blot). Results:Compared with S group, the incidence of arrhythmia was significantly increased, the expression of miRNA-1 was up-regulated, and the expression of Kir2.1 and Cx43 was down-regulated in I/R and EP groups ( P<0.05). Compared with I/R group, the incidence of arrhythmia was significantly decreased, the expression of miRNA-1 was down-regulated, and the expression of Kir2.1 and Cx43 was up-regulated in EP group ( P<0.05). The pathological changes of myocardium were accentuated in I/R and EP groups when compared with S group, and the pathological changes were significantly attenuated in EP group when compared with I/R group. Conclusion:The mechanism by which electroacupuncture postconditioning reduces the occurrence of reperfusion arrhythmia is related to up-regulation of Kir2.1 and Cx43 expression after down-regulation of miRNA-1 expression in rats.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2019;39(3):313-319
OBJECTIVE:
To explore the expression of the RNA-binding protein tristetraprolin in lung adenocarcinoma cells and its molecular mechanism for inhibiting autophagy.
METHODS:
Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting were performed to detect the expression of autophagy-related genes (including Beclin1, LC3-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ and SQSTM1/p62) in cultured lung adenocarcinoma cells at 24, 48 and 72 h after transient transfection with a tristetraprolin-overexpressing plasmid and the empty plasmid. The effects of transfection with the tristetraprolin-overexpressing plasmid and empty plasmids in the presence or absence of tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) on the expressions of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65, c-rel, and p50 were examined in lung adenocarcinoma cells using immunofluorescence assay and Western blotting. The cells were also transfected with the IκBα-mut plasmid and the tristetraprolin-overexpressing plasmid, either alone or in combination, and the changes in the expressions of tristetraprolin and autophagy-related genes were detected using RT-qPCR and Western blotting.
RESULTS:
The expressions of tristetraprolin were significantly reduced at both the mRNA and protein levels in lung adenocarcinoma cells ( < 0.001). Overexpression of tristetraprolin in the cells significantly lowered the expressions of autophagy-related genes Beclin1 and the ratio of LC3-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ at the mRNA and protein levels ( < 0.001), obviously lowered the expressions of NF-κB p65 and c-rel, and almost totally blocked the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 and c-rel ( < 0.05); the expression of p50, however, did not undergo significant changes in response to tristetraprolin overexpression ( > 0.05). The inhibitory effect of tristetraprolin overexpression on autophagy was abrogated by transfection of the cells with IκBα-mut plasmid, which blocked the NF-κB signaling pathway. Co-transfection of the cells with IκBα-mut also attenuated the inhibitory effect of tristetraprolin overexpression on Beclin1 and the LC3-Ⅱ/LC3-Ⅰ ratio at both the mRNA and protein levels ( < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
The expression of tristetraprolin is low in lung adenocarcinoma cells. Tristetraprolin overexpression causes inhibition of autophagy in lung adenocarcinoma cells possibly by blocking NF-κB p65 and c-rel nuclear translocation.
