AIM: To evaluate the reliability of a digital multimedia system for measuring near-distance horizontal heterophoria.METHODS: This cross-sectional diagnostic study enrolled patients with refractive errors who visited Shantou Aier Eye Hospital from May 2023 to August 2025, presenting with symptoms of visual fatigue, undergoing myopia management, or receiving routine ophthalmic examinations, and who completed heterophoria testing during this period. All patients wearing full refractive correction underwent near-distance(0.4 m)horizontal heterophoria measurement in a random order using the digital multimedia system, the Von Graefe method, and the Maddox rod method. Two consecutive measurements were performed for each method. The intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC)was used to analyze the measurement repeatability of each method, and Bland-Altman analysis and Spearman correlation analysis were employed to evaluate the consistency between the digital multimedia system and the two traditional methods.RESULTS: A total of 60 patients(120 eyes)were included, comprising 27 males and 33 females, with a mean age of 21.03±7.24 y. Repeatability analysis showed that the ICC for the digital multimedia system was 0.960(95%CI: 0.934-0.976), for the Von Graefe method was 0.979(95%CI: 0.964-0.987), and for the Maddox rod method was 0.956(95%CI: 0.926-0.973), all indicating excellent repeatability. Bland-Altman analysis revealed a mean difference of 0.367△ [95% limits of agreement(LoA): -2.97△ to 3.70△] between the Von Graefe method and the digital system, and a mean difference of 0.067△(95% LoA: -3.05△ to 3.19△)between the Maddox rod method and the digital system. Both differences were within the clinically acceptable range(difference <4△). Spearman correlation analysis showed positive correlations between the digital system and the Von Graefe method(rs=0.867)and between the digital system and the Maddox rod method(rs=0.777, all P<0.001).CONCLUSION: The digital multimedia system demonstrates high repeatability and good consistency with the traditional Von Graefe and Maddox rod methods for measuring near-distance horizontal heterophoria. It shows promise as a new and effective tool for clinical near-distance horizontal heterophoria measurement.

Objective:To delineate clinical characteristics of infantile myofibroma/myofibromatosis (IM) .Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on histologically confirmed IM cases from Beijing Children's Hospital, Henan Children's Hospital, and Maternity and Child Health Care of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region between August 2014 and July 2021. The clinical, pathological, imaging features, and outcomes were analyzed and summarized. Results:A total of 44 IM patients were included, comprising 28 males (63.6%) and 16 females (36.4%). Their ages at onset ( M[ Q1, Q3]) were 14.8 (4.7, 42.4) months, and 26 patients (59.1%) developed IM before the age of 1 year. Seven patients (15.9%) were initially diagnosed with IM. Skin involvement occurred in 42 patients (95.5%), of whom 30 (71.4%) presented with a solitary lesion and 12 (28.6%) with multiple lesions. Skin lesions mainly manifested as painless, firm nodules or masses. The most commonly involved extracutaneous site was the skeletal system (21/44, 47.7%). Histopathological examination of all 44 IM cases revealed a biphasic architecture pattern, characterized by the coexistence of two distinct morphologies or cell types within the tumor tissues (including spindle cell areas composed of fascicularly and densely arranged myofibroblasts, and primitive mesenchymal cell areas composed of small, round undifferentiated cells. Immunohistochemical study was performed in 42 cases; 40 (95.2%) were positive for smooth muscle actin, and 20 (47.6%) were positive for CD34. Genetic testing was conducted in 3 cases, and NOTCH mutations were identified in 2. Among the 44 patients, 30 patients (68.2%) underwent surgical excision, 5 patients (11.4%) received intralesional injections of triamcinolone acetonide, 1 patient (2.3%) received chemotherapy for intestinal involvement, and 8 patients were managed expectantly. During the follow-up of 49 (36, 60) months, lesions completely resolved in 42 cases (95.5%), while 2 cases died of pulmonary infection following chemotherapy or postoperative airway compression. Conclusions:IM predominantly affected infants and young children, with the skin and skeletal system being the most commonly involved sites. Skin lesions often manifested as firm nodules or masses, and histopathological examination was crucial for definitive diagnoses. Most IM cases exhibited favorable outcomes.

Objective To observe the impact factors of vascular heat sink effect during in vitro microwave ablation(MWA)of porcine lung. Methods Simulation models were established using in vitro porcine lung tissue blocks based on isobaric inflation with an air pump and cyclic perfusion of duck blood with a glass tube and peristaltic pump, etc.MWA was performed under 8 different combining conditions(vessel diameter of 3 or 5 mm,blood perfusion of 30 or 50 cm/s,as well as distance between vessel and ablation antenna of 5 or 10 mm)each for 3 times. The highest temperature TV on vessel side and TC on control side during MWA,and ablation depth DV on vessel side and DC on control side after MWA were recorded.Multi-factor linear regression equations were constructed based on simulated vessel diameters, blood perfusion and distance between vessel and ablation antenna, and the impact factors of|TC-TV|and|DC-DV|were screened, respectively. Results Simulated vessel diameter showed linear positive correlation with both|TC-TV|and|DC-DV|(both P<0.001).Simulated distance between vessel and ablation antenna showed linear negative correlation with both|TC-TV|and|DC-DV|(both P<0.001),and the latter had more obvious impact on vascular heat sink effect than the former.Meanwhile,no significant linear relationship was found between simulated blood perfusion and|TC-TV|nor|DC-DV|(both P>0.05).Conclusion Simulated vessel diameter and distance between vessel and ablation antenna were both impact factors of vascular heat sink effect during in vitro MWA of porcine lung, and the latter was more influential, whereas simulated blood perfusion showed no significant impact on it.
