Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(8):1116-1119
Objective:
To explore the mediating effect of life meaning and subjective well being during college students values influence depression, providing insights for reducing college students depression.
Methods:
Utilizing a longitudinal approach, the study employed four scales of assessing Chinese adolescent values, sense of life meaning, subjective wellbeing, and depression to conduct a twoyear followup survey of 576 university students (September 2021 T1; September 2023 T2). Three multiple chained mediation models were constructed and analyzed using PROCESS Model 6.
Results:
Across the two waves, students endorsement of collective responsibility [(3.74±0.67)(3.64±0.65)] and self improvement [(3.78±0.75)(3.54±0.73)] decreased, while personal happiness [(3.46±0.77)(3.70±0.71)] and depression levels [(0.92±0.43)(0.99±0.50)] increased. Personal happiness T1 negatively predicted depression T2 ( β =-0.21) by enhancing subjective well being T2 ( β =0.20), with a mediation effect of -0.04 (95% CI =-0.07 to -0.02)(all P <0.01). Self improvement T1 negatively predicted depression T2( β =-0.08,-0.20) by increasing sense of life meaning T2 ( β =0.49) and through a serial mediation (sense of life meaning T2 →subjective well being T2, β =0.29), with mediation effects of -0.04 (95% CI =-0.06 to -0.02) and -0.03 (95% CI =-0.04 to -0.02)(all P <0.01). Collective responsibility negatively T1 predicted depression T2 ( β =-0.08,-0.21) via separate pathways (sense of life meaning T2: β = 0.29 ; subjective well being T2: β =0.17) and a serial mediation (sense of life meaning T2→ subjective well being T2, β =0.28), with mediation effects of -0.02 (95% CI =-0.04 to -0.01), -0.04 (95% CI = -0.07 to -0.01) and -0.02 (95% CI =-0.03 to -0.01 )(all P <0.01).
Conclusion
The three values influence depression through distinct psychological mechanisms, providing a basis for mental health interventions and values education.

Objective:To analyze the long-term trends in cause-specific mortality across different sexes and age groups in China from 1990 to 2021, and quantitatively assess the impact of population aging on cause-specific deaths by sex. Methods:Based on data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021, this study extracted the number of deaths, crude mortality rates and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMRs) for all causes, Level 1 causes (communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases; non-communicable diseases; injuries) and Level 3 causes in China from 1990 to 2021, stratified by sex and age group. This study analyzed the current situation and long-term trends in mortality in China, applying decomposition analysis to quantify the impact of population aging on the number of deaths. Results:In 2021, the ASMRs of all-cause death and the three primary causes of death in Level 1 in China were 644.68, 26.59, 575.55, and 41.82 per 100 000, respectively. The ASMRs of the three primary causes continued to decline, with the smallest decrease observed in non-communicable diseases [EAPC=-1.79%, 95% CI (-1.92%, -1.66%)] and the largest in communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases (CMNND) [EAPC=-5.86%, 95% CI (-6.06%, -5.65%)]. The ASMRs were higher in males than females, with a smaller decline. Mortality was higher in the elderly. CMNND deaths mainly occurred in children under 5 and the elderly; non-communicable disease deaths were concentrated in the elderly; injury deaths were relatively evenly distributed across age groups. The proportion of CMNND deaths decreased annually, while the proportion of non-communicable disease deaths increased. From 1990 to 2021, population aging contributed to an increase of 8.11 million all-cause deaths, 167 464.42 CMNND deaths, 7.74 million non-communicable diseases deaths, and 196 287.78 injury deaths. The impact of population aging differed by sex and disease, with male and female aging-related deaths increasing by 4.47 million and 3.70 million, respectively. Compared to 1990, the age-specific mortality rate contributions in 2021 were -72.82% for males and -93.87% for females, with variations by sex and disease. Conclusion:The composition of disease-related deaths in China has changed notably. Population aging is linked to the sharp rise in deaths, with varying impacts across sexes and diseases. Reducing disease mortality can help lessen the negative effects of population aging.

Acta Universitatis Medicinalis Anhui 2025;60(2):344-350
Objective:
To utilize machine learning(ML) algorithms to develop accurate and effective prediction models for TAC dose/weight-adjusted trough concentration(C0/D).
Methods:
Data were collected on 264 TAC blood concentration monitoring data from 72 patients undergoing kidney transplantation. The effects of population statistical data, clinical features, combined medication, and ultrasound feature parameters on TAC C0/D were analyzed. Features with a significance level less than 0.05 in the univariate analysis of TAC C0/D were selected for inclusion in the random forest(RF) algorithm to identify significant features. These features were interpreted using partial dependency plots. Five ML algorithms, including RF, support vector regression(SVR), extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost), decision trees(DT) and artificial neural networks(ANN), were employed to establish the TAC C0/D prediction model. Hyper-parameter tuning was performed on the RF model that performed the best.
Results :
Ten characteristic variables with importance scores>5 were retained and included in the ML model: transglutaminase, red blood cell count, blood urea nitrogen, weight, serum creatinine, renal segmental arterial resistance index, renal aortic resistance index, hematocrit, renal pelvic Young′s modulus value, and time after transplantation. The partial dependence plots showed that all 10 important variables screened were positively correlated with TAC C0/D. The tuned RF model outperformed the other models with aR2of 0.81, aRMSEof 43.93, and aMAEof 29.97.
Conclusion
The ML models demonstrate good performance in predicting TAC C0/D and provide innovative interpretations using partial dependence plot. The optimized RF model shows optimal performance and offers a novel tool for individualized medication adjustment for TAC in renal transplant patients.

Purpose To investigate the incidence and risk of malignancy(ROM)of the Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ di-agnosis of thyroid nodules due to insufficient number of follicular cells, and to analyze the correlation between their in-sufficient cell volume and the characteristics of the nodules themselves from the perspective of ultrasound and histology. Methods Clinical data were collected from fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC)of the thyroid gland.Review and statistical analysis was performed on cases with the Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ diagnosis due to insufficient cell volume. The incidence and the ROM of Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ diagnosis were calculated.BRAF V600E(+)or postoperative patho-logical indicating papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC)was used as the criterion for malignancy. Then,we matched the Bethesda class Ⅱ/Ⅵ cases with sufficient cell volume as the control group. The ultrasound characteristics and histo-logical images of the two groups were compared and analyzed in order to reveal the correlation between the insufficient amount of penetrating cells and the objective characteristics of the nodule itself. Results There were 39 solid thyroid nodules with the Bethesda class Ⅰ diagnosis, with an incidence of 3.3%and a ROM of 38.5%,and 160 nodules with the Bethesda class Ⅲ diagnosis, with an incidence of 13.5%and a ROM of 59.4%.The incidence and ROM of nod-ules with C-TIRADS ≥4b(22.4%,67.6%)were higher than those of C-TIRADS ≤4a(12.7%,39.8%),and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.001).Compared to the Bethesda class Ⅱ/Ⅵ nodules with sufficient cell volume, occurrence of the Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ nodules were significantly correlated with small nodules(maximal diameter<5 mm),vertical growth(aspect ratio ≥ 1)and poor blood supply(no or little blood flow signals)(r=0.131,-0.230,0.237,P=0.008,<0.001,<0.001).They were also significantly correlated with the pathologic histologic structure of diffuse significant fibrosis of the interstitium and low parenchyma/interstitium composition ratio(about 1:1)(r=-0.269,-0.396,P=0.019,<0.001).Conclusion Thyroid Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ nodules have a high ROM,and BRAF V600E detection is recommended as a tool of tiered management.Bethesda class Ⅰ/Ⅲ diagnosis of insufficient cell volume is more likely when the nodules are too small, grow vertically and lack blood sup-ply,presumably associated with extensive interstitial fibrosis and sparse parenchymal cells.
