1.Application of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of radiofrequency ablation

Objective:To investigate the application of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of radiofrequency ablation.Methods:A case-control study was conducted among high-risk HCC patients who underwent puncture biopsies at Lishui Central Hospital from January 2019 to January 2023. A total of 118 confirmed HCC patients were selected as the case group, and 118 patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis were selected as the control group, following a 1:1 matching principle. All patients underwent a CEUS examination, and the therapeutic efficacy of CEUS in detecting HCC was analyzed. The case group underwent radiofrequency ablation for 1 month. The case group underwent 1 month of radiofrequency ablation treatment, and the application value of CEUS in assessing the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation for HCC was evaluated based on the results of Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.Results:The results of the CEUS examination were compared with the pathological diagnosis results. In the case group, 6 cases were misdiagnosed, while in the control group, 8 cases were missed. The diagnostic accuracy of CEUS was 94.07%, and the Cohen's Kappa value for CEUS was 0.88, indicating a good consistency between CEUS and pathological diagnosis results. After radiofrequency ablation, the alpha-fetoprotein levels in the case group decreased significantly from [(141.27 ± 34.90) μg/L] before the procedure to [(59.78 ± 14.55) μg/L] after the procedure ( t = 24.32, P < 0.001). However, the longest diameter of the lesions increased from [(17.44 ± 4.17) mm] before the procedure to [(28.47 ± 5.41) mm] after the procedure ( t = -16.46, P < 0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in the longest diameter of the tumors assessed by CEUS postoperatively compared to the Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI results ( P > 0.05). When comparing the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation assessed by CEUS to the results from Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI, there were 8 true positive cases, 107 true negative cases, and 3 cases that were misdiagnosed. The accuracy of CEUS in assessing the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation for HCC was 97.46%, with a Cohen's Kappa value of 0.83. Conclusions:CEUS demonstrates a high accuracy in the diagnosis of HCC and can serve as an effective method for evaluating the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation. It shows good consistency with pathological diagnoses and Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI results, indicating a high clinical application value.
2.Research on the Correlation between Balance Function and Core Muscles in Patients With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Objective:
This study aimed to explore the correlation between balance function and core muscle activation in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), compared to healthy individuals.
Methods:
A total of 24 AIS patients and 25 healthy controls were recruited. The limits of stability (LOS) test were conducted to assess balance function, while surface electromyography was used to measure the activity of core muscles, including the internal oblique, external oblique, and multifidus. Diaphragm thickness was measured using ultrasound during different postural tasks. Center of pressure (COP) displacement and trunk inclination distance were also recorded during the LOS test.
Results:
AIS patients showed significantly greater activation of superficial core muscles, such as the internal and external oblique muscles, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Diaphragm activation was lower in AIS patients during balance tasks (p < 0.01). Although no significant difference was observed in COP displacement between the groups, trunk inclination was significantly greater in the AIS group during certain tasks (p < 0.05).
Conclusion
These findings suggest distinct postural control patterns in AIS patients, highlighting the importance of targeted interventions to improve balance and core muscle function in this population.
3.Preparation and Characterization of Docetaxel-loaded Lipid Microbubbles

Objective:To prepare nanoscale docetaxel-loaded lipid microbubbles(DLLM),characterize their physical and chemical properties,evaluate their biosafety and anti-tumor effects in vitro,and explore their potential as a targeted delivery system for chemotherapeutic drugs.Methods:DLLM was prepared by thin film hydration method.The morphology,particle size and distribution were characterized by transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy and particle size analyzer.The drug encapsulation efficiency was determined by high performance liquid chromatography.Human hepatoma HepG2 cells were used as a model to set up the control group(Control group),the docetaxel group(DOC group),the docetaxel-loaded lipid microbubbles group(DLLM group)and the docetaxel-loaded lipid microbubbles+ultrasound group(DLLM+US group).The cell morphology was observed by optical microscope,the cell survival rate was detected by CCK-8 method,and the apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry.The biocompatibility of microbubbles and their mediated ultrasound-enhanced anti-tumor effect were evaluated.Results:The prepared DLLM was regular spherical,with a particle size distribution range of 200-600 nm,an average particle size of 380 nm,and an encapsulation efficiency of 80.3%±2.6%.The cell viability of the DOC group and the DLLM+US group was significantly lower than that of the Control group(P<0.01),and the apoptosis rate was significantly increased(P<0.01).The cell viability of the DLLM+US group was lower than that of the DOC group(P<0.05),and the apoptosis rate was higher than that of the DOC group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in cell viability and apoptosis rate between the DLLM group and the Control group(P>0.05).Conclusions:The nano-scale DLLM prepared in this experiment has uniform particle size,high encapsulation efficiency,good stability and biocompatibility.DLLM can enhance the killing and pro-apoptotic effects of docetaxel on HepG2 cells under ultrasound irradiation.
4.RCM method-based study on preventive maintenance strategy of heating,ventilation and air-conditioning system in pharmacy intravenous admixture services

Objective To propose a preventive maintenance strategy of the heating,ventilation and air-conditioning(HVAC)system in pharmacy intravenous admixture services(PIVAS)based on the reliability centered maintenance(RCM)method so as to provide references for PIVAS equipment maintenance.Methods Firstly,a HVAC system RCM review team was formed,and the failure modes and impacts of important functional components of the equipment were analyzed to clarify the consequences of the failure of each functional component under the premise of ensuring the safety and integrity of the equipment and with the goal of minimizing the loss of maintenance downtime and the consumption of maintenance resources.Secondly,with a standardized logical decision-making procedure the preventive maintenance strategy was determined and implemented based on the consequences of functional failure.Finally,statistical analyses were carried out on such equipment indicators as performance parameter qualification rate,failure rate and maintenance cost before and after the RCM method-based strategy was executed,in order to evaluate the efficacy of the strategy.Results The RCM method-based preventive maintenance strategy had the performance qualification rate increased from 97.47%to 99.06%(χ2=24.139,P<0.01),the failure rate decreased from 0.24%to 0.03%(χ2=13.519,P<0.01)and the maintenance cost reduced by 11.5%,from RMB 134,200 to 118,700.Conclusion The RCM method-based preventive maintenance strategy provides reliable equipment for PIVAS and lowers the maintenance cost effectively,and references are given for the development of automated and intelligent equipment maintenance strategies for PIVAS.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2025,46(10):78-83]

With the advancement of science and technology and the increasing care needs of critically ill patients, critical care nursing robots have developed rapidly. This paper provides an overview of the current applications of nursing robots in intensive care settings, including assessment and monitoring, routine care, rehabilitative care, emotional assistance, remote care, and multifunctional integration. Furthermore, the challenges associated with the implementation of critical care nursing robots and future development directions are discussed, aiming to provide a reference for the optimization and practical application of such technologies.

Early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) shows a different epidemiological trend compared to later-onset colorectal cancer, with its incidence rising in most regions and countries worldwide. However, the reasons behind this trend remain unclear. The etiology of EOCRC is complex and could involve both genetic and environmental factors. Apart from Lynch syndrome and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, sporadic EOCRC exhibits a broad spectrum of pathogenic germline mutations, genetic polymorphisms, methylation changes, and chromosomal instability. Early-life exposures and environmental risk factors, including lifestyle and dietary risk factors, have been found to be associated with EOCRC risk. Meanwhile, specific chronic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, have been associated with EOCRC. Interactions between genetic and environmental risk factors in EOCRC have also been explored. Here we present findings from a narrative review of epidemiological studies on the assessment of early-life exposures, of EOCRC-specific environmental factors, and their interactions with susceptible loci. We also present results from EOCRC-specific genome-wide association studies that could be used to perform Mendelian randomization analyses to ascertain potential causal links between environmental factors and EOCRC.

8.Transcriptomic analysis of key genes involved in sex differences in intellectual development.

Intelligence encompasses various abilities, including logical reasoning, comprehension, self-awareness, learning, planning, creativity, and problem-solving. Extensive research and practical experience suggest that there are sex differences in intellectual development, with females typically maturing earlier than males. However, the key genes and molecular network mechanisms underlying these sex differences in intellectual development remain unclear. To date, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) have identified 507 genes that are significantly associated with intelligence. This study first analyzed RNA sequencing data from different stages of brain development (from BrainSpan), revealing that during the late embryonic stage, the average expression levels of intelligence-related genes are higher in males than in females, while the opposite is observed during puberty. This study further constructed interaction networks of intelligence-related genes with sex-differential expression in the brain, including the prenatal male network (HELP-M: intelligence genes with higher expression levels in prenatal males) and the pubertal female network (HELP-F: intelligence genes with higher expression levels in pubertal females). The findings indicate that the key genes in both networks are Ep300 and Ctnnb1. Specifically, Ep300 regulates the transcription of 53 genes in both HELP-M and HELP-F, while Ctnnb1 regulates the transcription of 45 genes. Ctnnb1 plays a more prominent role in HELP-M, while Ep300 is more crucial in HELP-F. Finally, this study conducted sequencing validation on rats at different developmental stages, and the results indicated that in the prefrontal cortex of female rats during adolescence, the expression levels of the intelligence genes in HELP-F, as well as key genes Ep300 and Ctnnb1, were higher than those in male rats. These genes were also involved in neurodevelopment-related biological processes. The findings reveal a sex-differentiated intelligence gene network and its key genes, which exhibit varying expression levels during the neurodevelopmental process.

9.Polarized light microscopic mineral phase authentication and health risk assessment of raw and calcined fossil mineral Chinese medicinal material Draconis Os.

This study aims to investigate the polarized microscopic mineral phase characteristics, inorganic element content, and potential health risks associated with the intake of raw and calcined fossil mineral Chinese medicinal material Draconis Os. Microscopy was employed to observe the mineralogical characteristics of Draconis Os and compare the microscopic features and phase composition of raw and calcined Draconis Os under monochromatic and orthogonal polarized light. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) was employed to determine the content of 30 inorganic elements. Health risk assessment was conducted by calculating the single pollution index(P_i), average daily intake of elements for adults(ADI), target hazard quotient(THQ), non-carcinogenic assessment method-hazard quotient(HQ), and the carcinogenic risk of elements(CR). The results indicated that under monochromatic polarized light, the Draconis Os powder sections exhibited light gray-brown to gray-brown irregular fragments, some with undulating textures that were slightly curved. Under crossed polarized light, they appeared dark gray, grayish-white, and yellowish-white. Clear apatite was visible in the ground sections of Draconis Os under crossed polarized light. P_i results indicated that Draconis Os samples were free from contamination and were of good quality. According to the maximum allowable limits of heavy metals stipulated in ISO Traditional Chinese Medicine: Determination of heavy metals in herbal medicines used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, ADI, THQ, HQ, and CR were taken as assessment indicators. Only the THQ value for As(arsenic) in raw Draconis Os was greater than 1, while the THQ values for other heavy metal elements in the Draconis Os samples were all less than 1. The study demonstrates that the primary mineral phase of raw and calcined Draconis Os is apatite, with some samples co-existing with calcite, which can serve as one of the means for quality control of Draconis Os. The elemental analysis results from ICP-MS provide scientific evidence for the safety assessment of Draconis Os, indicating that Draconis Os is safe in clinical application.
