AIM: To compare the clinical outcomes of extended depth-of-focus intraocular lenses(EDOF IOLs)using either micromonovision implantation or mixed implantation of EDOF and diffractive bifocal IOLs.METHODS: This retrospective clinical trial included 130 patients(260 eyes), who were divided into two groups. Group RR comprised 70 patients(140 eyes)bilaterally implanted with ZXR00 IOLs(Tecnis ZXR00, where one target was -0.5 D to -0.75 D and the other was 0 to -0.25 D). Group RM comprised 60 patients(120 eyes)unilaterally implanted with both ZXR00 and ZMB00 IOLs(Tecnis ZMB00, 0 to -0.25 D). Postoperative outcomes were compared after 3 mo, including visual acuity, defocus curves, stereoacuity, modulation transfer functions(MTFs), higher-order aberrations, and Visual Function-14(VF-14)questionnaire responses.RESULTS: Group RR had superior bilateral intermediate vision, while the group RM had superior bilateral near vision(both P<0.05). Group RM also exhibited superior MTFs and reduced higher-order aberrations(both P<0.05). Stereoacuity and VF-14 questionnaire results showed no statistically significant difference between groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: The implantation of micromonovision has significantly improved near vision. IOLs and their collocation can be customized according to individual patient needs to achieve precise treatment and provide cataract patients with high-quality vision.

With the rapid development of social economy and the continuous improvement of human living standard, the incidence, fatality and recurrence rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) are increasing year by year, which seriously affects people's life and health. Conventional therapeutic drugs have limited improvement on the disability rate, so the search for new therapeutic drugs and action targets has become one of the hotspots of current research. In recent years, the therapeutic role of the natural compound rosmarinic acid (RA) in CVD has attracted much attention, which is capable of preventing CVD by modulating multiple signalling pathways and exerting physiological activities such as antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation, as well as anti-coagulation and endothelial function protection. In this paper, the role of RA in the prevention of CVD is systematically sorted out, and its mechanism of action is summarised and analysed, with a view to providing a scientific basis and important support for the in-depth exploration of the prevention value of RA in CVD and its further development as a prevention drug.

Cinnabar(HgS) was widely used in ancient times for medicinal purposes, religious rituals, and pigments. A group of bright red powdery clumps was excavated from Mawangdui Tomb No.3 of the Han Dynasty. Early studies considered the clumps as evidence of cinnabar's medicinal use during the Qin-Han period. This study employed a range of archaeometric techniques, including extended-depth-of-field stereo imaging, micro-CT, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry FTIR, to systematically analyze the material composition and structural characteristics of these remains. The results revealed that the cinnabar particles were granular, finely ground, and tightly bound to silk matrix, with no detectable excipients typically associated with medicinal formulations. Micro-CT imaging indicated a well-preserved textile structure, with clear signs of sedimentary accumulation and mechanical damage. Based on historical and archaeological studies, this study suggested that these remains were more likely degraded accumulations of cinnabar-colored silk textiles rather than medicinal cinnabar. By clarifying the diversity of ancient cinnabar applications and preservation states, this study provides new insights for the archaeological identification of mineral medicinal materials and contributes to the standardized study of Chinese medicinal materials and understanding of the historical use of cinnabar.

Objective To explore the relationship between the levels of serum death-associated protein kinase 1(DAPK1)and total tau(T-tau)protein and cognitive dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 178 patients with T2DM who were diagnosed and treated at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from May 2024 to January 2025 were selected.According to whether the patients had cognitive dysfunction,they were divided into cognitive dysfunction group(88 cases)and control group(90 cases).Based on Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA)score,patients with cognitive dysfunction were further divided into severe group(MoCA score＜10 points,24 cases);moderate group(10 points ≤MoCA score ≤17 points,31 cases),and mild group(18 points ≤MoCA score＜26 points,33 cases).The levels of serum DAPK1 and T-tau proteins were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,and the risk factors were analyzed by Logistic regression.Spearman correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between T-tau protein,DAPK1 and the severity of cognitive dysfunction.Results The age,duration of diabetes mellitus,proportion of hyperlipidemia,fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,glycated hemoglobin,T-tau protein,and DAPK1 of patients in cognitive dysfunction group were significantly higher than those in control group,while the educational level was significantly lower than that in control group(P＜0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the duration of diabetes mellitus,T-tau protein,DAPK1,and glycated hemoglobin were all independent risk factors for cognitive dysfunction in patients with T2DM(P＜0.05).The T-tau protein and DAPK1 of patients in severe group were significantly higher than those in mild group and moderate group(P＜0.001).Spearman correlation analysis showed that DAPK1 and T-tau proteins were positively correlated with severity of cognitive dysfunction(P＜0.05).Conclusion The duration of diabetes mellitus,glycated hemoglobin,DAPK1 and T-tau protein are all independent risk factors for cognitive dysfunction in patients with T2DM.The levels of DAPK1 and T-tau protein are related to the severity of cognitive dysfunction and can be used as potential markers for risk assessment.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect and mechanism of Shuangshi Tonglin Capsules (SSTL) in the treatment of prostate fibrosis (PF). METHODS: Human prostate stromal cells (WPMY-1) were used for in vitro experiments to establish PF cell models induced with estradiol (E₂). The cell proliferation, migration and clonogenic capacity were determined by cell counting kit-8, scratch assay, and crystal violet staining, respectively. Sprague-Dawley rats were used for in vivo experiments. The changes in histomorphology and organ index of rat prostate by SSTL were determined. Pathologic changes and collagen deposition changes in rat prostate were observed by haematoxylin and eosin (HE) and Masson staining. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits were used to determine changes in rat PF markers fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23), E₂ and prostate specific antigen (PSA). Mechanistically, changes in oxidative stress indicators by SSTL were determined in WPMY-1 cells and PF rats. Then the expressions of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)/Smad pathway-related proteins as well as Nrf2 and TGF-β1 mRNA were further detected by Western blot or quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction both in vivo and in vitro. RESULTS: In the efficacy study, SSTL significantly reduced the proliferation, migration, and clonogenic ability of cells, improved the morphology of the glandular tissue, significantly reduced the prostate index, reduced glandular fibrous tissue and collagen deposition, and resulted in a significant decrease in the levels of FGF-23, E₂ and PSA (P<0.01 or P<0.05). In the mechanistic study, SSTL ameliorated oxidative stress by significantly increasing superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase levels and decreasing malondialdehyde level in WPMY-1 cells and rats (P<0.01 or P<0.05). SSTL significantly elevated the expressions of Nrf2, HO-1, NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1), and Smad7 proteins in both cells and rats, and significantly decreased the expressions of TGF-β1, collagen I, α-smooth muscle actin and Smad4 proteins (P<0.01 or P<0.05). SSTL also elevated the content of Nrf2 mRNA and decreased the content of TGF-β1 mRNA in cells and rats (P<0.01 or P<0.05). The Nrf2 inhibitor ML385 was added in in vitro experiments to further validate the pathway relevance. CONCLUSION SSTL was effective in improving PF in vivo and in vitro, and its mechanism of action may function through the Nrf2/TGF-β1 signaling pathway.

Objective To study the relationship between platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)and the prognosis of actue respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS).Methods A total of 182 patients with ARDS admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical College from January 2015 to September 2024 were included,including 98 cases in treatment improvement group and 84 cases in death group.The relevant factors included gender,age,height,body mass,body mass index(BMI),nutritional risk screening scores 2002(NRS2002),diabetes,hypertension,procalcitoinn(PCT),ARDS grading(mild-moderate/severe),acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ)scores,PLR and whether to use vasopressor drugs between two groups were recorded and compared.The related factors of ARDS prognosis were evaluated by univariate factor Logistical regression analysis,and the statistical significant variables were analyzed by multivariate factor Logistical regression analysis.Results Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that height,body mass,gender,hypertension,diabetes,PCT and NRS2002 were not significantly related to the prognosis of patients with ARDS(P＞0.05);Age,BMI,APACHE Ⅱ score,PLR,whether to use vasopressor drugs and ARDS grading are closely related to the prognosis of ARDS patients(P＜0.05).By multivariate factor Logistical regression analysis for closely related factor,PLR(OR=1.113,95％CI:1.047-1.278),APACHE Ⅱ scores(OR=1.279,95％CI:1.110-1.473)and ARDS grading(OR=3.769,95％CI:1.397-10.167)were independent risk factors of ARDS prognosis.Conclusion PLR,APACHE Ⅱ scores and ARDS grading were closely related to the prognosis of ARDS.

Objective: To understand the status and related knowledge requirements of health emergency literacy among college students in Shaanxi Province, so as to provide the basis for improving college students health emergency literacy. Methods: A total of 2 723 students from 18 colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province were selected by multi stage random sampling and simple random sampling methods in November 2023, and the survey of health literacy in emergency and knowledge requirements of health emergency literacy was conducted. Statistical analysis was carried out by using χ 2 test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, Kruskal-Wallis H test and Logistic regression analysis. Results: About 28.98% of the surveyed college students had a high level of health emergency literacy, which varied by students whether being only one child, whether having left behind experience, with different personality types, whether being student cadres, and with different frequencies of community or social activities ( χ 2=9.15, 7.90, 32.73, 16.29 , 120.25, P <0.05). The equivalence scores of the four dimensions of health emergency literacy from high to low were poisoning and nuclear and radiation (0.84), medical rescue (0.83), infectious disease (0.82), and basic knowledge and behavior ( 0.77 ). Logistic regression analysis found that college students with left-behind experience were negatively correlated with health emergency literacy and its four dimensions ( OR =0.74, 0.72, 0.80, 0.80, 0.83), while personality type (rational type), community or social activity frequency were positively correlated with the cognitive levels of health emergency literacy and its four dimensions among college students ( OR =1.57, 1.50, 1.33, 1.27, 1.38)( P <0.05). There was a higher level of basic knowledge and behavioral cognition among only child college students ( OR =3.73), and female students had a higher level of health emergency literacy, as well as awareness of infectious disease outbreaks and medical rescue ( OR =1.21, 1.28, 1.21)( P <0.05). The radar map showed that the level of health emergency literacy was positive development radar map. About 67.68 % of the students had a high willingness to acquire health emergency literacy knowledge, and the demand for basic health emergency knowledge and behavioral knowledge was the highest (52.37%). Conclusions College students have insufficient health emergency literacy, but they have the highest demand for health emergency. Publicity and education should be strengthened for students with left behind experience, irrational type, and low frequency of community or social activities.
