Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effect of ultrasound-guided sphenopalatine ganglion block on allergic rhinitis. Methods:A total of 719 patients with allergic rhinitis admitted to Changsha Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Changsha Eighth Hospital) from January 2022 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. Among them, 483 patients who received sublingual desensitization treatment in the otolaryngology outpatient department were selected as the control group, and 236 patients who received ultrasound-guided sphenopalatine ganglion block treatment in the pain outpatient department were selected as the observation group. All patients underwent Nasal Provocation Test (NPT) scores and Quality of Life Scale (QLS) scores before and after treatment to evaluate the treatment efficacy of both groups and record adverse reactions. Results:The NPT scores of both groups of patients improved after treatment at 1, 3, and 6 months compared to before treatment (all P<0.05); After 1 and 3 months of treatment, the NPT score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05); After 6 months of treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in NPT scores and treatment efficacy between the two groups of patients (all P>0.05). The QLSscores of both groups of patients improved after treatment at 1, 3, and 6 months compared to before treatment (all P<0.05); After 1 and 3 months of treatment, the QLS score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05); After 6 months of treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in QLS scores between the two groups of patients ( P>0.05). During the treatment process, some patients experienced brief facial numbness, pain, and other discomforts, which all resolved on their own within a short period of time. Conclusions:Ultrasound guided sphenopalatine ganglion block has a good therapeutic effect on allergic rhinitis and can quickly improve the quality of life of patients.
