Objective:To understand the current situation of the ability to screen health information of the elderly in rural areas and analyze its influencing factors, so as to provide a basis for taking targeted measures. Methods:A cross-sectional survey was adopted, and rural elderly people in Yonghe Town, Dahu Town and Dayao Town of Liuyang City, Hunan Province were selected as the survey subjects by the convenience sampling method. The investigation was conducted using the general information Questionnaire, the Health Information Discrimination Ability Scale, the filial Piety Expectation Scale and the two-way Social Support Scale. Results:A total of 228 questionnaires were distributed, and 215 valid questionnaires were retrieved, with an effective recovery rate of 94.30%. Among the 215 rural elderly people surveyed, 86 were male and 129 were female. The ability to discriminate health information was (69.19 ± 13.41) points, the expectation of filial piety was (37.67 ± 6.12) points, and the two-way social support was (46.82 ± 8.11) points. The ability of rural elderly people to discriminate health information was positively correlated with filial piety expectations and two-way social support ( r = 0.340, 0.456; both P<0.01). The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that educational level, filial piety expectations and two-way social support were the influencing factors of the current status of health information discrimination ability of rural elderly people ( t values were 2.60 to 5.35, all P<0.05). Conclusions:The ability of discriminating health information of the elderly in rural areas is affected by the educational level, filial piety expectation and two-way social support. The health information of rural elderly people with low education level should be screened and targeted, so as to enrich their cultural life and combine education with fun. Actively build a filial piety culture to promote children′s attention to their parents. In addition to providing social support for the elderly, we should promote their interpersonal and social communication and exert their self-value, so as to improve the health information screening ability of the elderly in rural areas.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of Glutamine (Gln) on the expression of PCNA in intestinal tissue of neo-natal rats with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and to explore the protective mechanism of Gln in intestinal mucosa. Methods Forty-eight neonatal rats at the age of 48 hours were selected, and divided into 4 groups, control group, Gln group, NEC group, NECGln group. Each group had 12 rats. Control group were fed mice milk substitutes; Gln group were fed mice milk substitutes mixed with Gln; NEC group were fed mice milk substitutes and had cold/ hypoxia exposure twice a day for 3 days; NECGln group were exposed to cold stress, hypoxia and treated with Gln mixed in the milk. The expression of PCNA was detected using immunohistochemical method. Results Compared with control group were and Gln group, the general condition was worse, and the weight was decreased in NEC and NECGln group. The inifltrated inlfammatory cells, congestion, edema, intrinsic layer separation were observed in intestinal mucosa in NEC and NECGln group. The intestinal villus was lost in severe in NEC and NECGln group. The PCNA index was 34.17±5.78, 34.42±5.38, 15.00±1.94, 30.67±3.14 in control, Gln, NEC and NECGln group respectively, with signiifcant difference between each groups (H=24.32,P=0.000). The expression of PCNA in NEC group was lower than that in normal, Gln, and NECGln group (P<0.008). The expression of PCNA had no signiifcant difference among normal, Gln, and NECGln group (P>0.008).Conclusions The expression of PCNA in intestinal mucosa was decreased in NEC rats. Gln supplement could raise the expression of PCNA in intestinal mucosa of NEC rats, and accelerate the speed of intestinal mucosa repair.

OBJECTIVETo study the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in acute liver failure (ALF) using a mouse model of D-Galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide (D-GalN/LPS)-induced ALF.
METHODSThe ALF model was established by administering intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of D-Ga1N (700 mg/kg) and LPS (10 mug/kg) to six C57BL/6 mice. Three of the modeled mice were also administered 4-phenylbutyrate (4-PBA; 100 mg/kg i.p.) at 6 hours before the onset of ALF and served as the intervention group. Non-modeled mice served as controls. All mice were analyzed by western blotting and qRT-PCR to determine the expression levels of ERS-related proteins in liver tissue. Liver function was assessed by measuring levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in serum. Extent of injury to the liver tissue was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining and histological analysis. qRT-PCR was also used to detect differences in expression of inflammation-related genes, and western blotting was also used to detect differences in expression of the apoptosis related protein Caspase-3.The extent of apoptosis in liver tissue was assessed by TUNEL assay.
RESULTSThe ERS markers GRP78 and GRP94 showed increased expression at both the gene and protein levels which followed progression of ALF. The ERS effector proteins XBP-1, ATF-6 and IRE 1 a involved in the unfolded protein response were activated in the early stages of ALF, and the ERS-induced apoptosis regulators Caspase-12 and CHOP were activated in the late stage of ALF. Inhibition of ERS by 4-PBA intervention protected against injury to liver tissue and function, as evidenced by significantly lower levels of serum ALT and AST and a remarkably decreased extent of histological alterations. Furthermore, the inhibition of ERS suppressed expression of the proinflammatory cytokines TNFa, IL-6 and IL-1 β, and reduced the extent of hepatocyte apoptosis.
CONCLUSIONERS is activated in the mouse model of D-GalN/LPS-induced ALF. Inhibition of ERS may be protective against liver injury and the mechanism of action may involve reductions in inflammatory and apoptotic factors and/or signaling. Therefore, inhibiting ERS may represent a novel therapeutic approach for treating ALF.
