With the rapid advancement of vaccines, the research and application of vaccine adjuvants have garnered significant attention. Despite the development of numerous vaccine adjuvants, their applications in human vaccines remain limited due to either insufficient efficacy or severe side effects. Consequently, there is growing interest in developing bioactive compounds derived from traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) as vaccine adjuvants, owing to their natural biocompatibility, diversity, and safety. Here, we systematically review the current application status and potential value of TCM-based bioactive compounds in vaccine adjuvants. Firstly, we elaborate on the types and characteristics of active ingredients, such as polysaccharides, saponins, flavonoids, acids, and alkaloids. The mechanisms by which these compounds function as vaccine adjuvants are then discussed, including their roles in enhancing humoral immunity, cellular immunity, and relieving the immune suppression in the microenvironment. Additionally, we summarize the current strategies for structural modification and platform optimization to adapt to different application scenarios. Finally, we offer insights into the future development directions for these potential adjuvants, highlighting research priorities, technical approaches, and application prospects. In conclusion, natural vaccine adjuvants derived from TCMs present broad application prospects and hold promise for future vaccine development.

The first examination showed the presence of peptic ulcers(gastric or duodenal ulcers)under the endoscope, and were ultimately diagnosed with peptic ulcers caused by EGIDs through examination and follow-up. The clinical characteristics, laboratory tests, endoscopic results, and treatment follow-up were analyzed.Results:Thirty-five children were EGIDs,22 males and 13 females.Twenty-two cases(62.9%)had abdominal pain as the main symptom.Laboratory tests:17 cases(48.6%)showed a decrease in hemoglobin,15 cases(42.9%)showed an increase in eosinophil count,20 cases(57.1%)tested gastro positive for food allergen specific IgE,and 17 cases(48.6%)showed thickening of the intestinal wall on gastrointestinal ultrasound. Endoscopic features:8 cases(22.9%)showed gastric antral ulcers, including 7 cases(20.0%)with multiple gastric antral ulcers, and 25 cases(71.4%)showed duodenal bulb ulcers. There were 15 cases(42.9%)showed huge ulcers, and 14 cases(40.0%)were located in the duodenal bulb. Comparison of clinical characteristics between children with EGIDs(EGIDs group)and those with peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection(Hp group):the first clinical symptom in both groups was mainly abdominal pain, but the incidence rate in the EGIDs group was lower(62.9% vs 93.5%),and the weigth for length Z score in the EGIDs group was lower[0(-1.6,0.8)vs 1.1(0,1.9)],with statistical significance(all P<0.05). Comparison of laboratory tests:the EGIDs group showed a statistically significant difference in hemoglobin levels[120(101,124)g/L vs 130(100,138)g/L],eosinophil count[0.28(0.13,0.71)× 10 9/L vs 0.16(0.08,0.22)×10 9/L],a positive rate of food allergen specific IgE detection(57.1% vs 32.3%),and a positive rate of intestinal wall thickening detected by gastrointestinal ultrasound(48.6% vs 16.1%)compared with the Hp group(all P<0.05). Comparison of endoscopic examinations:multiple ulcers in the gastric antrum were more common in the EGIDs group than in the Hp group(20.0% vs 0),and the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). Conclusion:For children with peptic ulcers with onset of abdominal pain, with anemia or malnutrition,or multiple ulcers in the gastric antrum and huge ulcers in the duodenal bulb detected by endoscopy,it is recommended to perform multi site biopsies to help diagnose EGIDs early.

Objective:To analyze clinical efficacy of intensity-modulated chemoradiotherapy for patients with anal squamous cell carcinoma and identify prognostic factors. Methods:Clinical data of patients with anal squamous cell carcinoma who received intensity-modulated chemoradiotherapy in the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Regular follow-up was carried out. The main indexes included disease-free survival (DFS), locoregional failure-free survival (LRFFS) and overall survival (OS), and adverse reactions were recorded. The survival curve was delineated by Kaplan-Meier method and the influencing factors of survival were analyzed by Cox regression models. Results:A total of 65 patients were enrolled with 19 (29%) males and 46 (71%) females. According to the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 7 th edition staging, there were 7 (11%), 28 (43%), 10 (15%), and 20 (31%) patients with stage I, II, IIIa, and IIIb, respectively. Before the chemoradiotherapy, 2 (3%) patients received chemotherapy and 12 (18%) patients received local resection. The median dose of radiotherapy was 54 Gy (range: 45-64 Gy) and the main concurrent chemotherapy regimen was capecitabine combined with cisplatin ( n=34, 52%). The completion rate of radiotherapy during concurrent chemoradiotherapy was 100%, and the chemotherapy completion rate was 88%. During the therapy, 5 patients (8%) were interrupted but completed concurrent chemoradiotherapy in full dose, and 8 patients (12%) reduced the dose of concurrent chemotherapy due to the toxicities. During the chemoradiotherapy, 15 cases (23%) experienced grade 3-4 leukopenia, and 17 cases (26%) experienced grade 3-4 radiation dermatitis. No treatment-related death occurred during the treatment. The median follow-up time was 50.4 months (range: 4.4-142.2 months), local recurrence occurred in 7 cases (11%), distant metastasis occurred in 3 cases (5%), and the 5-year DFS, LRFFS and OS rates were 78.8%, 86.5% and 85.1%, respectively. Cox univariate analysis indicated that T stage was significantly associated with DFS ( P=0.006), and tended to be associated with OS ( P=0.054). Conclusions:Intensity-modulated radiotherapy combined with concurrent chemotherapy is an effective treatment for anal squamous cell carcinoma, with tolerable acute toxicities. T stage is an influencing factor of DFS in anal squamous cell carcinoma patients.
