Objective: To investigate characteristics of colorectal cancer incidence and mortality in registration areas of Guangdong Province in 2020, so as to provide a basis for optimizing regional prevention and control strategies. Methods: Data on incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in cancer registration areas of Guangdong Province in 2020 were collected from the Cancer Follow-up Registration System and the All-Cause Mortality Registration Reporting System of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The crude incidence, crude mortality, truncated rate for 35 to 64 years, and cumulative rate for 0 to 64 years were calculated, and standardized using the Segi's world standard population. Descriptive epidemiological methods were applied to analyze the characteristics of colorectal cancer incidence and mortality by different genders, urban/rural areas and ages. Results: A total of 14 771 cases of colorectal cancer were reported in Guangdong Province in 2020. The crude incidence, world population-standardized incidence, truncated incidence for 35 to 64 years and cumulative incidence for 0 to 64 years were 35.18/100 000, 24.84/100 000, 38.87/100 000 and 1.37%, respectively. A total of 5 384 deaths of colorectal cancer were reported, with crude incidence, world population-standardized incidence, truncated incidence for 35 to 64 years and cumulative incidence for 0 to 64 years were 14.55/100 000, 8.83/100 000, 10.39/100 000 and 0.37%, respectively. The crude incidence and mortality were higher in males than in females (40.35/100 000 vs. 29.88/100 000, 16.51/100 000 vs. 12.54/100 000, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and mortality were higher in urban areas than in rural areas (38.94/100 000 vs. 26.10/100 000, 16.60/100 000 vs. 10.42/100 000, both P<0.05). The crude incidence of colorectal cancer initially increased with advancing age (P<0.05), reaching a peak of 239.36/105 in the 80-<85 age group, followed by a marked decline after 85 years. The crude mortality of colorectal cancer increased with advancing age (P<0.05), reaching a peak of 174.25/100 000 in the ≥85 years age group. Conclusions In 2020, the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in registration areas of Guangdong Province were higher than the national averages. There were differences in the characteristics of incidence and mortality among genders, urban/areas and age. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the comprehensive prevention and control efforts for colorectal cancer in males, urban areas, and the elderly population.

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of lung cancer in cancer registration areas of Guangdong Province in 2020, so as to provide the evidence for improving prevention and control strategies of lung cancer. Methods: Data of incidence and mortality in 2020 from 30 cancer registries in Guangdong Province were collected from the Cancer Follow-up Registration System and the All-Cause Mortality Registration Reporting System of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The crude incidence, crude mortality, and cumulative rate for 0 to 74 years were calculated. The Chinese population-standardized rate and world population-standardized rate were calculated using the age structure of the standard population from the Fifth National Population Census in 2000 and Segi's world standard population. The incidence and mortality characteristics of lung cancer in different genders, urban/rural areas and ages were described. Results: In 2020, there were 25 357 new cases of lung cancer in Guangdong Province. The crude incidence, Chinese population-standardized incidence, world population-standardized incidence, and cumulative incidence for 0 to 74 years were 60.40/100 000, 43.75/100 000, 43.26/100 000, and 5.30%, respectively. There were 14 366 lung cancer deaths. The crude mortality, Chinese population-standardized mortality, world population-standardized mortality, and cumulative mortality for 0 to 74 years were 38.82/100 000, 24.49/100 000, 24.36/100 000, and 2.88%, respectively. The crude incidence and crude mortality of lung cancer in males were higher than those in females (71.19/100 000 vs. 49.42/100 000, 52.94/100 000 vs. 24.36/100 000, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and crude mortality of lung cancer in urban areas were higher than those in rural areas (66.37/100 000 vs. 45.95/100 000, 40.68/100 000 vs. 35.07/100 000, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and crude mortality of lung cancer exhibited upward trends with increasing age (both P<0.05), peaking in the age of 80-<85 years (347.97/100 000 and 342.14/100 000). Conclusions Comparing to the national data, the incidence of lung cancer in registration areas of Guangdong Province remained relatively high, while mortality remained relatively low. Males, urban residents and the elderly constitute the key populations for lung cancer prevention and control. It is recommend to optimize the allocation of medical resources between urban and rural areas and strengthen lung cancer screening among high-risk groups.

Invasive fungal infection (IFI) is one of the serious complications in burn patients. The gradual development and application of broad-spectrum antibiotics in recent years has led to a serious dysbiosis of the flora, while the widespread prophylactic use of antifungal drugs has led to an increasing number of drug-resistant fungi. The clinical treatment of IFI is difficult and the prognosis is poor. The mortality of burn patients caused by IFI is increasing year by year. This paper reviews the epidemiologic characteristics, related risk factors, diagnostic methods, and treatment progress of IFI after burns, aiming to provide new ideas and reference for the prevention and treatment of IFI after burns.

ObjectiveTo explore the characteristics and risk factors of suicidal ideation among community subjects in Xiamen city and to provide appropriate suicide intervention strategies.MethodsUsing multi-stage stratified cluster sampling,12071 subjects aged 18 years and older were identified in Xiamen City.Their suicidal ideation was recorded with the investigation list made by Beijing Huilongguan Hospital Beijing Suicide Research and Prevention Center.Psychiatrists determined their diagnosis with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder 4th edition (DSM-Ⅳ).ResultsA total of 10757 subjects completed the survey,the completion was 89.1％.The life-time prevalence of suicidal ideation was 2.48％ (95％CI:2.19％ ～ 2.77％ ),the prevalence was higher in female(3.00％ ) than male( 1.88％ ) (RR =1.60,95％CI:1.24 ～2.06).Analysis of risk factors by single logistic regression showed that the suicidal ideation of persons were mostly in female,44 years and older group,in rural,not-being married,no medical insurance,poor mental or physical health in last month,being in hospital due to the mental problems,low quality of life,living alone,having blood relatives or acquaintance with suicidal behavior.While the risk factors by muhivariate logistic regression were ranked as follows:having acquaintance with suicidal behavior (OR =3.66,95％CI:2.44 ～5.50),being in hospital because of mental problems (OR =3.30,95％CI:1.08 ～10.09),poor mental health in last month(OR =3.17,95％CI:2.37 ～4.24),any blood relatives having suicidal behavior (OR =2.91,95％CI:1.61 ～ 5.25 ),low of quality of life (OR =2.21,95％CI:1.50 ～ 3.26 ),not-being married (OR =1.73,95％CI:1.28 ～ 2.32),living alone (OR =1.65,95％CI:1.18 ～ 2.32),being female (OR=1.57,95％CI:1.21 ～ 2.05).The prevalence of mental disorders in suicidal ideation was 46.4％.ConclusionThe prevalence of suicidal ideation is significantly higher in female residents than in male.Having acquaintance with suicidal behavior,being in hospital due to the mental problems as well as poor mental health in last month are the main risk factors of suicidal ideation.

Objective To investigate the effect of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on the expression of a disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 1 motifs (ADAMTS-1), and to study whether the application of small interfering (si)RNA specifically targeting ADAMTS-1 would help to recover IPC protection in the aged heart. Methods The 32 young (4 months) and 32 aged(24 months) male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were assigned randomly to IPC group (n=20) and sham operated group (n= 12) respectively. Myocardial samples from the ischemic-reperfused region were harvested for detecting the ADAMTS-1 expression. In addition, the 110 aged SD rats were assignedrandomly to ADAMTS-1 siRNA group and control group (n=55, each). The effects of ADAMTS-1siRNA transfcction on the expression of ADAMTS-1 protein, myocardial infarction survival rate,heart function and myocardial infarction size after IPC were observed.Results Twenty-four hours after IPC, the ADAMTS-1 protein expression increased significantly in iscbemic-reperfused region both in young and aged rats (P＜0. 05), and the protein expression was higher in aged rats than in young rats (P＜0.05). In young-IPC group, the absorbency showed ADAMTS-1 protein expression at 0 hrs and 24 hrs after IPC were 0. 05±0.01 and 0.12±0.03 by immunohistochemical staining, and were 0.68±0. 16 and 1. 17±0.21 by Western blots respectively. In aged-IPC group, the absorbency showed ADAMTS-1 protein expression at 0 hrs and 24 hrs after IPC were 0.07±0. 03 and 0.21 ±0.04 by immunohistochemical staining, and were 0. 76±0. 21 and 1. 48±0. 17 by Western blots. In the aged rats, ADAMTS-1 siRNA transfection inhibited ADAMTS-1 protein expression (0. 66±0. 19and 0.78±0.21, by Western blots at 0 hrs and 24 hrs after IPC, P＞0.05), but didn't improve myocardial infarction survival rates [ADAMTS-1 siRNA group and sham operated group: 14.3% (5/35) vs. 17.1 %(6/35), P＞0.05], left ventricular fractional shortening [(14.0±3.2)% vs. (13.0±2.9)%, P＞0.05] and myocardial infarction size[(39.0±4.1)% vs. (38.0±5.3)%, P＞0.05].Conclusions ADAMTS-1 expression induced by IPC increases significantly in aged versus in young rats. ADAMTS-1 knockdown by siRNA inhibits ADAMTS-1 protein expression but cannot recover the age-associated loss of IPC protection.

AIM:To study the effect of adiponectin (APN) on lipid peroxidation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in vitro. METHODS:The effect of H2O2 on apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry with Annexin V-FITC labeling. The concentration of malonaldehyde (MDA) in HUVECs was detected by thiobarbituric acid (TBA) method. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were measured by colorimetric assay. The scavenging rate on superoxide anion radicals in xanthine oxidase system and OH radicals produced by Fenton reaction were also tested. RESULTS:APN significantly inhibited H2O2-induced apoptosis. H2O2 increased MDA production and reduced the activities of SOD and CAT,which were inhibited by APN. APN did not alter the activities of SOD and CAT in normal condition. APN dose-dependently decreased the superoxide anion radicals,with the scavenging rate of 11.9%,21.4%,36.9%,respectively,and scavenged OH radicals. CONCLUSION:APN inhibits apoptosis and protects endothelial cells against lipid peroxidation insult by scavenging the free radicals.
