Objective:To evaluate the association between long-term exposure to ambient ozone (O 3) and sperm quality. Methods:From January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019, healthy sperm donors were recruited through the Human Sperm Bank of Shandong University Affiliated Reproductive Hospital. A total of 37 977 sperm donation data from 2 971 healthy volunteers were analyzed. The average annual O 3 concentration (0.01°× 0.01°) was matched according to household address. A multivariate mixed-effect model was used to analyze the exposure-response relationship between the average O 3 exposure concentration and sperm quality in the previous year, with each donor as a random intercept. All results were presented as % changes with 95% confidence intervals ( CIs) for all sperm parameters associated with 10 μg/m 3 increases in O 3. The effects of individual characteristics on the association between O 3 and sperm quality were evaluated by stratified analysis. Results:The average O 3 concentration in the year before semen collection was (107.09±7.50) μg/m 3. Each 10 μg/m 3 increase in O 3 was associated with declined sperm concentration (-3.12%, 95% CI:-4.55%, -1.67%), total sperm count (-5.21%, 95% CI:-7.28%, -3.09%), total sperm motility (-1.49%, 95% CI:-2.37%, -0.61%), progressive motility (-2.53%, 95% CI:-3.78%, -1.26%), total motile sperm count (-5.82%, 95% CI:-8.17%, -3.41%), and progressively motile sperm count (-6.22%, 95% CI:-8.73%, -3.64%). Men aged 30 and above, obese, and with lower education levels might be more susceptible to the influence of O 3 on sperm quality, but the difference was not statistically significant ( P>0.05). Conclusion:Long-term exposure to O 3 in Shandong Province is associated with a decrease in sperm quality.

Polyolefin plastics are a group of polymers with C-C backbone that have been widely used in various areas of daily life. Due to their stable chemical properties and poor biodegradability, polyolefin plastic waste continues to accumulate worldwide, causing serious environmental pollution and ecological crises. In recent years, biological degradation of polyolefin plastics has attracted considerable attention. The abundant microbial resources in the nature offer the possibility of biodegradation of polyolefin plastic waste, and microorganisms capable of degrading polyolefin have been reported. This review summarizes the research progress on the biodegradation microbial resources and the biodegradation mechanisms of polyolefin plastics, presents the current challenges in the biodegradation of polyolefin plastics, and provides an outlook on future research directions.

Objective:To compare the clinical outcomes of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and titanium mesh as repair materials in the cranioplasty for cranial defect patients, and to screen the independent factors for postoperative complications of cranioplasty. Methods:A total of 95 patients with cranial defects admitted to our hospital from June 2012 to June 2019 were selected for this study. According to the different repair materials used in cranioplasty, these patients were divided into PEEK group ( n=36) and titanium mesh group ( n=59). General data (hospitalization cost, hospital stay, et al), postoperative complications (intracranial hemorrhage, subcutaneous effusion, infection, seizures, and implant exposure), postoperative plastic satisfaction, and improvement of postoperative neurological function (differences of Glasgow outcome scale [GOS] scores and Mini-mental State Examination [MMSE] scores before and 6 months after surgery) were compared between the 2 groups. Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses were used to screen the independent factors for postoperative complications of cranioplasty. Results:The patients in the PEEK group had significantly higher hospitalization cost but significantly shortened length of hospital stay as compared with those in the titanium mesh group ( P<0.05). The overall incidence of complications in PEEK group was significantly lower than that in titanium mesh group ( P<0.05); the incidence of subcutaneous effusion in PEEK group was significantly lower than that in titanium mesh group ( P<0.05). The PEEK group had significantly higher proportion of patients with good satisfaction in postoperative plasticity, and significantly higher proportions of patients having increased GOS and MMSE scores as compared with the titanium mesh group ( P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that repair material was an independent factor for postoperative complications of cranioplasty ( OR=4.550, P=0.019, 95%CI: 1.281-16.161). Conclusion:As compared with titanium mesh, PEEK costs more, but its clinical application effect is better, especially in reducing postoperative complications; selection of appropriate repair materials can be used as one of the methods to reduce postoperative complications.

Objective To study the clinicopathological features of syringomatous adenoma of the nipple (SAN).Methods The clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings of four cases of SAN were described, with a review of the literature. The diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SAN were also discussed. Results Among the four patients, three were female, and one was male. The mean age at onset was 42 years, and clinical course ranged from 3 months to 10 years.Clinically,SAN was manifested as an asymptomatic subcutaneous nodule, which was located in the areola of breast of female patients and in the right armpit of the male patient.Histopathologically, the tumor was located in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, composed of nests and cords of epithelial cells forming tubular structures and infiltrating the indurated stroma between smooth muscle bundles. These tubules were lined by two layers of cells and displayed a comma or tadpole shape.Keratotic microcysts were seen.Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells stained positive for cytokeratin, cytokeratin 5/6,Ki67 (1%),but negative for estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor,CerbB2,cytokeratin 8/18,P53 and gross cystic disease fluid protein-15 (GCDFP-15).The peritubular myoepithelial cells expressed P63 and smooth muscle actin (SMA).Conclusions SAN is a rare benign tumor, which is often confused with some benign and malignant carcinomas of the breast.

Objective Both decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and arterial stiffness were considered as risk factors for atherosclerosis. Previous studies have suggested the association between central arterial stiffness and the degree of GFR loss. Whether decreased GFR contributes to peripheral artery stiffness remains controversial. Moreover, data analyzed from a cohort of Chinese women are rare. Our aim was to explore the relationship between GFR and regional arterial stiffness in Chinese women. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we randomly recruited 1131 adult women residents with GFR ≥ 60 mL/min per 1.73 m2 estimated by the Chinese Modification of Diet in Renal Disease equation from three large communities. Central and peripheral arterial stiffness were estimated simultaneously by measuring carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWVcf) and carotid-radial PWV (PWVcr) using a validated automatic device. Augmentation Index at heart rate 75 beats/minutes (AIx-75) was measured by pulse wave analysis as a composite parameter reflecting both large and distal arterial properties. Results The mean estimated GFR (eGFR) of the study group was 100.05 ± 23.26 mL/minute per 1.73 m2. Subjects were grouped by tertiles of eGFR level. PWVcf and AIx-75 increased ongoing from the top to the bottom eGFR tertile, while the values of PWVcr were comparable. Both univariate Pearson correlations and multiple stepwise regression analyses showed that eGFR significantly correlated to PWVcf, but not to PWVcr and AIx-75. Conclusions In Chinese women with normal to mildly impaired renal function, decreased eGFR affected carotid-to-femoral rather than carotid-to-radial stiffening. This provides rational to conduct future prospective studies to investigate predictors of atherosclerosis in this population.

Chinese Journal of Diabetes 1995;0(04):-
After intracerebral ventricular administration of GLP-1 in NS or 30% glucose to rats, their effects on blood glucose and glucose regulatory hormones were observed. The results demonstrated:1. Intracerebral ventricular administration of GLP-1 in NS didn't influence plasma stucose, insulin and glucagon secretion.2. Intracerebral ventricular administration of GLP-1 in 30% glucose increased plasma glucose concentration significantly and decreased insulin concentration, but no change of glucagon concentration. This experiment showed that GLP-1 might participate in CNS regulation of pancreatic islet hormonesecretion.
