OBJECTIVE To observe the preventive and therapeutic effect of Ganoderma lucidum spore powder on cancer-related fatigue in postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy patients with breast cancer, and to provide a basis for using traditional Chinese medicine processed by modern processing to effectively improve the quality of life of cancer patients. METHODS Seventy-four female patients who received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer in Zhejiang Cancer Hospital from November 2021 to March 2023 were randomly divided into either treatment(n=37) or control group(n=37). Both groups were given 4 cycles of epirubicin(or liposomal doxorubicin) combined with cyclophosphamide adjuvant chemotherapy and corresponding symptomatic treatment: the treatment group was treated with sporoderm-removed Ganoderma lucidum spore powder 2 g·d–1, and the control group was treated with placebo. The incidence and severity of cancer-related fatigue, the changes in T lymphocyte subsets, serum inflammatory factors, intestinal flora, and the effects of drugs on blood routine, liver, and kidney function were compared between the two groups after treatment. RESULTS The incidence of cancer-related fatigue and the score of the Piper correction scale in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05), the proportion of CD3+, CD4+, and CD3-CD56+ was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05), while the proportion of CD8+ was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). The counts of IL-2 and IL-10 were higher than those in the control group, while the counts of IL-6, IL-8, and CRP were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). The counts of leukocytes, neutrophils, and platelets in the control group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05), and the abundance of intestinal microflora in the control group was higher than that in the control group. There was no significant difference in liver and kidney function between the 2 groups. CONCLUSION Sporoderm-removed Ganoderma lucidum spore powder can significantly reduce the incidence and level of cancer-related fatigue in breast cancer patients during adjuvant chemotherapy, inhibit inflammatory factors, regulate intestinal flora and body immunity.

Background::The dermoscopic features of rosacea have already been reported. However, the current findings are incomplete, and little is known about phymatous rosacea. Hence, this study aimed to summarize and compare the dermoscopic features and patterns of three rosacea subtypes (erythematotelangiectatic [ETR], papulopustular [PPR], and phymatous [PHR]) in the Chinese Han population and to evaluate whether these features differ with patients’ genders, ages, and durations.Methods::Dermoscopic images of 87 rosacea patients were collected in non-polarized and polarized dermoscopy contact modes at 20-fold magnification. Dermoscopic features, including vessels, scales, follicular findings, and other structures, were summarized and evaluated.Results::The reticular linear vessels and red diffuse structureless areas of ETR were distinctive. For PPR, red diffuse structureless areas, reticular linear vessels, yellow scales, follicular plugs, and follicular pustules were typical dermoscopic criteria. The common dermoscopic features of PHR were: orange diffuse structureless areas, linear vessels with branches, perifollicular white color, orange focal structureless areas, and white lines. The following features statistically differed among the three rosacea subtypes: reticular linear vessels ( P < 0.001), unspecific linear vessels ( P= 0.005), linear vessels with branches ( P < 0.001), yellow scales ( P = 0.001), follicular plugs ( P < 0.001), perifollicular white color ( P < 0.001), red diffuse structureless areas ( P = 0.022), orange diffuse structureless areas ( P < 0.001), red focal structureless areas ( P = 0.002), orange focal structureless areas ( P = 0.003), white lines ( P < 0.001), follicular pustules ( P < 0.001), and black vellus hairs ( P < 0.001). Conclusions::The dermoscopic patterns of ETR are red diffuse structureless areas and reticular linear vessels. For PPR, the pattern comprehends combinations of red diffuse structureless areas, reticular linear vessels, yellow scales, follicular plugs, and follicular pustules. Meanwhile, PHR is characterized by remarkable orange diffuse structureless areas, linear vessels with branches, perifollicular white color, orange focal structureless areas, and white lines.

Objective:To explore the relationship between hypoxia and fertility in female mice.Methods:Twenty-one clean-grade 14-week Kunming female mice were selected and divided into hypoxia groups ( n=11) and normoxia groups ( n=10), and raised under low oxygen concentration (10%-20.5%) and normal oxygen concentration (20.5%) respectively. Four weeks later, hypoxic mice were returned to normoxia environment. Two groups of 21 females were mated with males, the quantity of the litters and body mass at birth were recorded. These females were maintained until 43 weeks to repeat the hypoxic and mating experiments described above. Two weeks after the secondary hypoxia, mating and delivery, these female mice were sampled under anesthesia for inner canthus blood, and the blood estradiol and progesterone were measured by a Roche biochemical analyzer. The mice were put to death by giving over dosage of anesthesia drug; oocytes, ovaries and uterus tissues were obtained, for detection of reactive oxygen species of the oocytes, and HE staining of the ovaries and uterus. Results:The number of litters produced in the young hypoxia group was 13.64±3.35, which was slightly higher than that in the young normoxia group (13.22±1.92), but the difference was not significant ( P=0.734). The birth body mass of the litters in the young hypoxic group [(1.73±0.20) g] was significantly lower than that in the young normoxic group [(1.82±0.22) g, P<0.001]. The mean number of litters in the old hypoxic group (5.11±3.58) was significantly higher than that in the old normoxic group (1.38±2.56, P=0.022). Compared with 23 weeks female normoxia mice, estradiol levels decreased in both the old hypoxia and old normoxic groups ( P=0.019; P=0.035), but there was no significant difference in estradiol level between old hypoxia and old normoxic groups ( P=0.913). There was no significant difference in reactive oxygen species of the oocytes between old normoxic and old hypoxic mice ( P>0.05). Tissue HE staining showed that the old normoxic mice had obvious uterine hyperemia, and the outlook of the uterus of the old hypoxic mice was normal. The old hypoxia mice had more antral follicles than the normoxic group and the size of the follicles was more even. Conclusion:The hypoxia mice produced more offspring than the normoxia mice, however, the birth body mass of the offspring was significantly lower than that in normoxic mice. The ovaries of the old hypoxic mice contained more follicles than the old normoxic mice.

Background: In suckling piglets, transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) causes lethal diarrhea accompanied by high infection and mortality rates, leading to considerable economic losses. This study explored methods of preventing or inhibiting their production.Bovine antimicrobial peptide-13 (APB-13) has antibacterial, antiviral, and immune functions. Objectives: This study analyzed the efficacy of APB-13 against TGEV through in vivo and in vitro experiments. Methods: The effects of APB-13 toxicity and virus inhibition rate on swine testicular (ST) cells were detected using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT). The impact of APB-13 on virus replication was examined through the 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50 ). The mRNA and protein levels were investigated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot (WB). Tissue sections were used to detect intestinal morphological development. Results: The safe and effective concentration range of APB-13 on ST cells ranged from 0 to 62.5 µg/mL, and the highest viral inhibitory rate of APB-13 was 74.1%. The log10 TCID50 of 62.5 µg/mL APB-13 was 3.63 lower than that of the virus control. The mRNA and protein expression at 62.5 µg/mL APB-13 was significantly lower than that of the virus control at 24 hpi. Piglets in the APB-13 group showed significantly lower viral shedding than that in the virus control group, and the pathological tissue sections of the jejunum morphology revealed significant differences between the groups. Conclusions APB-13 exhibited good antiviral effects on TGEV invivo and in vitro.

BACKGROUND:The application of virtual reality technology in preoperative simulation can reduce the risk in operation effectively and improve the quality of surgery. Virtual reality technology has very important practical significance in the application of surgery. OBJECTIVE:The reverse engineering and virtual reality technology were used to achieve the preoperative simulation of a case of Pilon fracture. METHODS:The affected bones were reconstructed according to the CT data using the patient’s ankle portion in MIMICS software, and the separated bone fractures were restored. According to the characteristics of virtual reality technology, further processing on bone model was carried out using Geomagic software;the models of the fractured bones were exported with STL format. The restored bone fragments were checked up to determine integrity in the virtual reality operation platform. These models were used to do simulated operations in the virtual reality operation platform. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A case of Pilon fracture was simulated by using reverse engineering and virtual reality technology preoperatively. The processed 3D model was introduced into the virtual reality system to simulate the operation and help doctors choose the type, position and direction of the surgical approach and plate;the effect is good.

Objective To investigate the relationship between thyroid hormone and uric acid (UA) and body mass index (BMI) in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes and normal thyroid function.Methods Total of 313 patients with type Ⅱ diabetes and normal thyroid function were selected.BMI,fasting blood glucose (FBG),the metabolism of blood lipid,thyroid hormones and UA indicators were examined and the correlations of thyroid hormone,BMI and UA were analyzed.Results (1) The patients were divided into two groups according to gender,and FT3,FT4,and UA of male were found to be significantly higher than those in female (P＜0.01).TSH,SBP,HDL-C in female were significantly higher than those in male (P＜0.01);(2) The patients were divided into three groups according to BMI Level.Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH),three iodine armour gland original glycine (TT3),free three iodine thyroid glycine (FT3),UA,and FBG in overweight and obesity groups were found to be higher than those in normal weight group (P ＜ 0.05);(3) The patients were divided into two groups according to the TSH level.Serum uric acid,TT3,FT3,fasting insulin in the group with TSH above 2.5 uIU/L were found to be higher than those in the group with TSH under 2.5 uIU/L (P ＜ 0.05);(4) Patients were divided into two groups according to the UA level.TSH,FT3 in male with high uric acid were found to be higher than those in male with normal uric acid (P ＜ 0.05);TSH was in female with high uric acid was found to be higher than that in female with normal uric acid (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Thyroid hormone in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes can be used to assess the body weight and uric acid,which is of great clinical importance.

An aromatase encoded by the CYP19 gene catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of estrogens, which is related to endometriosis development. To assess the association of CYP19 gene polymorphisms with the risks of endometriosis, chocolate cysts and endometriosis-related infertility, a case-control study was conducted in Chinese Han women by recruiting 225 healthy control females, 146 patients with endometriosis, 94 endometriosis women with chocolate cyst and 65 women with infertility resulting from endometriosis, as diagnosed by both pathological and laparoscopic findings. Individual genotypes at rs2236722:T>C, rs700518:A>G, rs10046:T>C and [TTTA]n polymorphisms were identified. Allelic and genotypic frequencies were compared between the control group and case groups by chi-square analysis. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were determined by logistic regression analysis to predict the association of CYP19 gene polymorphisms with the risk of endometriosis, the related chocolate cysts and infertility. The genotype distributions of the tested CYP19 gene polymorphisms were not significantly different between the healthy control group and the endometriosis/endometriosis with the chocolate cyst group. However, the CYP19 rs700518AA genotype was significantly associated with an increased risk of endometriosis-related infertility (55.4% in the infertility group vs 25.3% in the control group, P<0.001; OR (95% CI): 3.66 (2.06-6.50)) under the recessive form of the A allele. Therefore, we concluded that in Chinese Han females CYP19 gene polymorphisms are not associated with susceptibility to endometriosis or chocolate cysts, whereas CYP19 rs700518AA genotype confers genetic susceptibility to endometriosis-related infertility.

BACKGROUND:Dexamethasone can improve the cellapoptosis and decrease the number of osteoblasts and bone cells through increasing the time of cellcycle. Protein kinase C is a kind of intraecellular singnal transduction pathways, and there are related reports on the relationship between protein kinase C and cellapoptosis. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the mechanism of dexamethasone-induced osteoblast apoptosis via protein kinase C intracellular signal transduction pathway. METHODS:Fetal rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were col ected for osteogenic induction, and the cells were divided into dexamethasone group, phorbol group and star cytochalasin group. The cells in the dexamethasone group were added with 1×10-6 mol/L dexamethasone, the cells in the phorbol group were added with 1×10-6 mol/L dexamethasone and 1×10-7 mol/L phorbol, while the cells in the star cytochalasin group were added with 1×10-6 mol/L dexamethasone and 1×10-7 RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Dexamethasone could induce apoptosis significantly, and after added with mol/L star cytochalasin. The proliferation and inhibition of the cells in different intervention groups were observed, and the content of protein kinase C in the cellmembrane and cytoplasm was measured. phorbol, the apoptosis was increased significantly;while after added with star cytochalasin, the apoptosis was decreased significantly. After added with dexamethasone, the content of protein kinase C in the cytoplasm was significantly decreased, while increased in the cellmembrane. At different time points after added with dexamethasone, the change of the content of protein kinase C in the cytoplasm and cellmembrane was most significant at 30 minutes. The results indicated that mechanism of dexamethasone-induced osteoblast apoptosis was correlated with protein kinase C, and dexamethasone was the agonist of protein kinase C. After the cells were stimulated, the protein kinase C in the cytoplasm wil moved to the cellmembrane, and then the content of protein kinase C in the cytoplasm was decreased, while increased in the cellmembrane.
