The paper reviews systematically Professor FU Wenbin's academic thinking and clinical experience of integrative acupuncture-moxibustion therapy for cranial tinnitus. Professor FU believes that cranial tinnitus refers to psychosomatic comorbidity. This disease is associated mainly with the brain and liver in terms of the disease location. In pathogenesis, the dysfunction of qi movement, disharmony of internal organs and unhealthy conditions of body and mind are involved. In treatment, based on psychosomatic medicine, from the perspective of the integration of body and mind, and in line with the mode of the integrative acupuncture-moxibustion therapy, holistic regimens are used, including acupuncture, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, etc. to consolidate the therapeutic effect of "tranquilizing the mind and relieving tinnitus".

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2025;42(4):748-756
Heart rate variability time and frequency indices are widely used in functional assessment for autonomic nervous system (ANS). However, this method merely analyzes the effect of cardiac dynamics, overlooking the effect of cardio-pulmonary interplays. Given this, the present study proposes a novel cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) algorithm based on cross-wavelet transform to quantify cardio-pulmonary interactions, and establish an assessment system for ANS aging effects using wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiratory monitoring devices. To validate the superiority of the proposed method under nonstationary and low signal-to-noise ratio conditions, simulations were first conducted to demonstrate the performance strength of the proposed method to the traditional one. Next, the proposed CPC algorithm was applied to analyze cardiac and respiratory data from both elderly and young populations, revealing that young populations exhibited significantly stronger couplings in the high-frequency band compared with their elderly counterparts. Finally, a CPC assessment system was constructed by integrating wearable devices, and additional recordings from both elderly and young populations were collected by using the system, completing the validation and application of the aging effect assessment algorithm and the wearable system. In conclusion, this study may offers methodological and system support for assessing the aging effects on the ANS.

Coronavirus-related diseases pose a significant challenge to the global health system. Given the diversity of coronaviruses and the unpredictable nature of disease outbreaks, the traditional "one bug, one drug" paradigm struggles to address the growing number of emerging crises. Therefore, there is an urgent need for therapeutic agents with broad-spectrum anti-coronavirus activity. Here, we provide evidence that ATV006, an anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleoside analog targeting RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), has broad antiviral activity against human and animal coronaviruses. Using mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) and human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63) as a model, we show that ATV006 has potent prophylactic and therapeutic activity against murine coronavirus infection in vivo. Remarkably, ATV006 successfully inhibits viral replication in mice even when administered 96 h after infection. Due to its oral bioavailability and potency against multiple coronaviruses, ATV006 has the potential to become a useful antiviral agent against SARS-CoV-2 and other circulating and emerging coronaviruses in humans and animals.

Objective:To analyze the clinical characteristics and outcomes of Haemophilus influenzae (Hi) meningitis in children. Methods:This is a retrospective case series study. This study included 34 Hi meningitis patients who admitted to Beijing Children′s Hospital, Capital Medical University, from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2023. Data on clinical presentations, laboratory tests, hearing assessment and outcomes at discharge were collected. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the outcome at discharge: favorable outcome group and unfavorable outcome group. Mann-Whitney U test and Fisher exact test was used to estimate the risk factors for an unfavorable outcome at discharge. Results:Thirty-four patients were enrolled. There were 16 males and 18 females. The age at onset ranged from 3 months to 12 years. Fever (34 patients (100%)), convulsions (17 patients (50%)), and coma (21 patients (62%)) were the common clinical presentations. Twenty-four patients (71%) developed complications. There were 15 patients (44%) needed treatment in the intensive care unit, 5 patients (15%) received intubation, and 4 patients (12%) had developed shock. The favorable outcome group included 23 patients, and the unfavorable outcome group included 11 patients. Female, patients with limb movement disability, dystonia, ventriculomegaly or hydrocephalus, and a concentration of glucose in the initial cerebrospinal fluid lower than 1 mmol/L were risk factors of unfavorable outcome at discharge (all P<0.05). Among the 23 patients (68%) in favorable outcomes group, 13 patients (57%) had data available on their long-term follow-up results, including 12 patients with favorable long-term outcomes and 1 patient with unfavorable long-term outcome. Among the 11 patients (32%) in unfavorable outcomegroup, 1 patient died, the other 10 patients (91%) had data available on their long-term outcomes. Eight patients had unfavorable long-term outcomes and 2 patients with favorable long-term outcomes. Patients who had unfavorable outcomes at discharge were at a greater risk of experiencing unfavorable long-term outcomes ( P=0.001). Conclusions:It is common for patients with Hi meningitis to have intracranial complications or develop into critical conditions. Patients who have limb movement disability, dystonia, ventriculomegaly or hydrocephalus, and who exhibit a concentration of glucose in the initial cerebrospinal fluid lower than 1 mmol/L tend to have unfavorable outcomes; they need to be assessed for sequelae.

Objective:To investigate the correlation between non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection by using the method of two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Methods:Genetic variation data for NHL came from the Finnish database (FinnGen) Consortium 2021 public genome-wide association study (GWAS) dataset including 1 088 patients with NHL and 299 952 control subjects. The GWAS dataset for chronic HBV infection was derived from GWAS analysis published in 2021, including 145 NHL patients and 351 740 control subjects. NHL was used as an exposure factor, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) significantly associated with NHL was used as an instrumental variable (IV), chronic HBV infection was used as an outcome variable. The two-sample MR analysis was performed by using inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. Chronic HBV infection was taken as an exposure factor, SNP significantly associated with chronic HBV infection was taken as IV, and NHL was taken as outcome variable, and then reverse two-sample MR analysis was performed. The IVW method used the inverse variance of each IV as the weight to fit, and the ratio method was used to measure SNP one by one and make weighted regression analysis, so as to obtain the overall estimate. MR-Egger regression and the weighted median (WME) method were also used to supplement the IVW method. In sensitivity analysis, leave-one-out sensitivity analysis was used to evaluate the impact of a single SNP. Cochran Q test was used to analyze the heterogeneity of the selected IV. MR-Egger regression was used to measure the average horizontal pleiotropy of IV, and the P-value of directivity was calculated. The MR-pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO) Global Test was used to exclude possible horizontal pleiotropic outliers and reduce bias. Results:In the leave-one-out sensitivity analysis, SNP with significant effects on causal associations was excluded. In forward MR analysis, IVs were 10 SNPs associated with NHL; the IVW method indicated that there was no causal association between NHL and chronic HBV infection ( OR = 0.979, 95% CI: 0.925-1.036, P = 0.465). MR-Egger regression ( OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.926-1.062, P = 0.825) and WME method ( OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.934-1.055, P = 0.805) were used as supplementary methods to obtain the consistent results. In sensitivity analysis, Cochran Q test showed no heterogeneity among IVs (IVW method: P = 0.271, MR-Egger regression: P = 0.239). Horizontal pleiotropy was not found in the MR-Egger regression (intercept was -0.01, P = 0.778) and the MR-PRESSO Global Test ( P > 0.05), suggesting robust results. In the reverse MR analysis, IVs were 8 SNPs associated with NHL; the IVW method ( OR = 1.117, 95% CI: 0.942-1.324, P = 0.202) also found no significant causal relationship between chronic HBV infection and NHL; MR-Egger regression ( OR = 0.777, 95% CI: 0.450-1.343, P = 0.401) and WME method ( OR = 1.120, 95% CI: 0.887-1.415, P = 0.351) also showed similar risk estimates. Sensitivity analysis also suggested the consistency and reliability of the results. Cochran Q test showed no heterogeneity among IVs (IVW method: P = 0.775, MR-Egger regression: P = 0.903). Horizontal pleiotropy was not found by MR-Egger regression (intercept was 0.102, P = 0.548) and MR-PRESSO Global Test ( P > 0.05). Conclusions:MR analysis suggests no causal relationship between NHL and chronic HBV infection.

Objective:To analyze the effects of low-molecular-weight heparin combined with insulin (LMWH+INS) and double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on lipid profiles and clinical outcomes in patients with hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) based on propensity score matching. Methods:The clinical data of 126 patients with HTG-AP from October 2022 to February 2024 in The Third Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Changzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Traditional Chinese Medicine University and Changzhou First People's Hospital were retrospectively included. Patients were divided into LMWH+INS group ( n=87) and DFPP group ( n=39) according to the treatment. Propensity score matching was applied at a 1∶1 ratio. The repeated measures analysis of variance was conducted to assess dynamic changes of blood lipids within the 5 days of admission between the LMWH+INS and DFPP groups after matching. Clinical symptoms and outcomes were compared between the two matched groups following matching. Results:29 patients were included in both LMWH+INS group and DFPP group after propensity score matching. No statistically significant differences were observed in triglycerides (TG), acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ(APACHEⅡ) score, or bedside index for the severity of acute pancreatitis (BISAP) between the two groups (all P value >0.05), indicating comparability. Repeated measures analysis of variance revealed that TG and TC levels in the DFPP group were significantly lower than those in the LMWH+INS group at 2-5 days after admission [TG 2 d: (5.26±2.59) mmol/L vs (10.79±3.81) mmol/L, 3 d: (3.35±1.01) mmol/L vs (7.72±3.64) mmol/L, 4 d: (3.45±0.77) mmol/L vs (6.57±3.17) mmol/L, 5 d: (3.73±1.26) mmol/L vs (5.61±3.07) mmol/L; TC 2 d: (4.83±2.29) mmol/L vs (8.2±2.82) mmol/L, 3 d: (4.23±2.17) mmol/L vs (7.71±2.68) mmol/L, 4 d: (4.28±1.59) mmol/L vs (7.55±2.41) mmol/L, 5 d: (4.1±1.21) mmol/L vs (7.84±2.6) mmol/L], with a more rapid decrease. LDL levels in the LMWH+INS and DFPP groups showed similar trends, with significant decreases at 2 day after admission [(5.41±3.24) mmol/L vs (2.96±1.47) mmol/L, (4.99±3.51) mmol/L vs (2.47±1.53) mmol/L]. The differences mentioned above are all statistically significant (all P value <0.001). No significant changes were observed in HDL levels in either LMWH+INS and DFPP groups at 2-5 days after admission. After matching, the DFPP group had a significantly longer time of resuming feeding [3(2, 3) days vs 4(3, 6) days] and higher hospital cost [12113.87 (9055.31, 14401.84) yuan vs 28025.34 (25388.11, 36335.48) yuan] compared with the LMWH+INS group, with statistically significant differences. Conclusions:DFPP could reduce TG and TC levels more rapidly and effectively than LMWH combined with INS, but does not show an advantage in improving clinical outcomes and reducing hospitalization costs.
