2.Analysis of undernutrition and associated factors among left behind and nonleftbehind primary and secondary school students in the Nutrition Improvement Program areas in central and western China

Objective:
To investigate the prevalence of undernutrition and its associated factors among left behind and non left behind primary and secondary school students in the Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students (NIPRCES) areas of central and western China, so as to provide evidence for improving the nutritional status of children and adolescents.
Methods:
A survey was conducted among 123 782 students selected by random cluster sampling method in grades 3-9 from NIPRCES in central (Hebei, Shanxi, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, and Hainan) and western (Gansu, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Tibet, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Yunnan, Qinghai, and Chongqing) China in 2023. Anthropometric measurements and questionnaires were used to assess nutritional and dietary status. The prevalence of undernutrition was compared between left behind and non left behind students by Chi square test, and associated factors were analyzed by three level Logistic mixed effects model.
Results:
The prevalence of undernutrition was 8.5% (4 326) in left behind students and 8.1% (5 905) in non left behind students. Three level Logistic mixed effect model analysis showed that whether left behind or non left behind, the undernutrition rates of primary and secondary students in western regions were higher than those of students in central regions [ OR (95% CI )=1.72(1.57-1.87),2.25(2.07- 2.43 )]; the undernutrition risk was lower for those whose fathers had a cultural level of high school or above [ OR (95% CI )=0.69(0.62-0.77),0.90(0.82-0.98)] or junior high school [ OR (95% CI )=0.72(0.66-0.79),0.92(0.85-0.99)] compared to those with primary school or below; picky eating or selective eating increased the risk of undernutrition [ OR (95% CI )=2.36(2.07-2.68),2.28(2.04-2.55)], and primary and secondary school students without nutritional content in health education classes had higher rates of undernutrition [ OR (95% CI )=1.12(1.03-1.23),1.09(1.01-1.17)](all P <0.05).
Conclusion
The prevalence of undernutrition is slightly higher in left behind primary and secondary students than in non left behind primary and secondary students in central and western NIPRCES areas, with variations across different characteristics.
3.Impact of milk and egg supplementation on body composition and bone mineral density of rural primary school students in Yunnan Province

Objective:
To investigate the impact of milk and egg supplementation on body composition and bone mineral density of rural primary school students in Yunnan Province, so as to provide a reference for developing targeted nutritional intervention strategies.
Methods:
In December 2023, a cluster sampling method was adopted to select students from grades one to three in four primary schools each from Jinggu and Shidian countys of Yunnan Province, as the intervention group (662 students). Additionally, two boarding primary schools were selected from each county based on the principle of matching scale and student numbers as the control group (455 students). Starting from April 2023, the intervention group received 200 mL milk and 50 g eggs during the break on school days for 8 months, while the control group maintained their usual diet behavior. Body composition was measured by using bioelectrical impedance analysis, and distal radial bone mineral density was assessed via dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in April and December 2023. The intervention effects were analyzed by using a difference in-differences approach.
Results:
The final measurements of body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass and fat free mass of the intervention group and the control group of primary school students were significantly higher than the baseline values, and the net effect of milk and egg intervention on these body composition indicators was not statistically significant ( P >0.05, both before and after adjustment). In contrast, bone mineral density increased significantly by 0.02 g/cm 2 in the intervention group. The net intervention effect on bone mineral density was statistically significant ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04), and remained significant after model adjustment ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04) (both P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed statistically significant effects of the intervention among girls ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04), day students ( β=0.04, 95%CI =0.01-0.07), and students with normal nutritional status ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04) (all P <0.05). No significant effect of milk and egg supplementation was observed on body composition indicators (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Milk and egg supplementation can improve bone mineral density among rural primary school students in Yunnan Province. It is recommended that rural school aged children should increase intake of milk and eggs to support growth and development.
4.FU Wenbin's experience of integrative acupuncture-moxibustion therapy in treatment of cranial tinnitus based on psychosomatic medicine.

The paper reviews systematically Professor FU Wenbin's academic thinking and clinical experience of integrative acupuncture-moxibustion therapy for cranial tinnitus. Professor FU believes that cranial tinnitus refers to psychosomatic comorbidity. This disease is associated mainly with the brain and liver in terms of the disease location. In pathogenesis, the dysfunction of qi movement, disharmony of internal organs and unhealthy conditions of body and mind are involved. In treatment, based on psychosomatic medicine, from the perspective of the integration of body and mind, and in line with the mode of the integrative acupuncture-moxibustion therapy, holistic regimens are used, including acupuncture, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, etc. to consolidate the therapeutic effect of "tranquilizing the mind and relieving tinnitus".

6.Short-term effectiveness of Gamma 3 U-Blade system for osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare the short-term effectiveness between Gamma 3 intramedullary nails and Gamma 3 U-Blade system in the treatment of osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 124 elderly patients with osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures, who were admitted between February 2020 and February 2023 and met the selection criteria. The fractures were fixed with Gamma 3 intramedullary nails in 65 patients (control group) and Gamma 3 U-Blade systems in 59 patients (UB group). The differences between the two groups were not significant in age, gender, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification, bone mineral density, time from injury to operation, fracture classification, and affected side ( P>0.05). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and fracture healing time were recorded; the tip-apex distance, fracture reduction quality, and lag screw position were evaluated on X-ray films at immediate after operation; the lag screw sliding distance and change value of neck-shaft angle were measured on X-ray films at last follow-up. Harris hip score at 1 year after operation and the occurrence of internal fixation-related complications were compared between the two groups.
RESULTS:
The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay in the UB group increased compared to the control group, but the differences were not significant ( P>0.05). All patients in both groups were followed up 12-24 months (mean, 17.1 months). At 12 months after operation, there was no significant difference in the Harris hip score between the two groups ( P<0.05). Radiological examination showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05) in terms of tip-apex distance, fracture reduction quality, and lag screw position. Fractures healed in both groups, and there was no significant difference in healing time ( P>0.05). At last follow-up, the change value of neck-shaft angle and lag screw sliding distance in the UB group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P<0.05). During follow-up, no related complications occurred in the UB group, while 6 cases (9.2%) in the control group experienced complications, and the difference in the incidence was significant ( P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
For the osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly, the Gamma 3 U-Blade system fixation can achieve good short-term effectiveness, with better imaging results compared to Gamma 3 intramedullary nails fixation.

7.Application of precise-guided temporary fixation assistive devices in proximal femoral nail antirotation fixation for femoral intertrochanteric fractures.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of precise-guided temporary fixation assistive devices in assisting the main nail guide pin placement and precise temporary fixation in proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) internal fixation of femoral intertrochanteric fractures.
METHODS:
A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted to analyze the clinical data of 60 patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures over 65 years old who met the selection criteria between January 2020 and June 2022 and were treated with PFNA internal fixation. The patients were randomly divided into the trial group (auxiliary device guided main nail guide pin placement and temporary fixation) and the control group (conventional treatment), with 30 cases in each group. There was no significant difference in baseline data such as gender, age, cause of injury, time from injury to operation, fracture side, AO/Orthopaedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification, and combined medical diseases between the two groups ( P>0.05). The operation time, times of main nail guide pin placement, intraoperative fluoroscopy frequency, intraoperative blood loss, and perioperative blood transfusion were recorded and compared between the two groups. The quality of fracture reduction was evaluated by CHANG Shimin et al criteria. Harris score was used to evaluate the hip function at 1 year after operation.
RESULTS:
In the trial group, 2 temporary fixation needles were successfully placed 2-5 times, including 2 times in 13 cases (43.3%), 3 times in 8 cases (26.7%), 4 times in 7 cases (23.3%), and 5 times in 2 cases (6.7%). The operation time, times of main nail guide pin placement, intraoperative fluoroscopy frequency, and intraoperative blood loss in the trial group were significantly less than those in the control group, and the reduction quality score was significantly better than that in the control group ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in perioperative blood transfusion between the two groups ( P>0.05). All patients were followed up 12-19 months (mean, 15 months). There was no complication such as incision infection, deep vein thrombosis, or internal fixation loosening. At 1 year after operation, the Harris score of the affected hip joint in the trial group was significantly higher than that in the control group ( P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
The technique of main nail guide pin placement and temporary fixation under the guidance of auxiliary devices in PFNA internal fixation can achieve faster insertion of the main nail guide pin, accurate temporary fixation to maintain reduction, and avoid the subsequent operation space, so as to improve the effectiveness.

8.Deep space environment empowering drug design and development.

The unique characteristics of the deep space environment, microgravity, cosmic radiation, and extreme temperature fluctuations, are emerging as major driving forces for pharmaceutical innovation. These factors provide new avenues for optimizing drug formulations, improving crystal structure quality, and accelerating the discovery of therapeutic targets. Advances in deep space research not only help overcome critical bottlenecks in terrestrial drug development but also promote progress in structure-based drug design and deepen understanding of cellular stress-response mechanisms. Current progress in space-based pharmaceutical research primarily includes the study of disease mechanisms under microgravity, protein crystallization in microgravity, and drug development utilizing deep space radiation and resources. However, the operational complexity, high costs, and limited data reproducibility of space experiments remain key challenges hindering widespread application. Looking ahead, with the integration of automation, artificial intelligence analysis, and on-orbit manufacturing, deep space drug development is expected to achieve greater scalability and precision, opening a new frontier in biopharmaceutical science.

10.Clinical applicability analysis of predictive models for radiation-induced lung injury in non-small cell lung cancer

Objective To develop and validate a model to predict the risk of radiation-induced lung injury (RILI) and assess its clinical feasibility. Methods Clinical data from 125 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were included in the study. The patients were divided into training group (88 cases) and validation group (38 cases). Key predictive factors were identified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses combined with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression. A predictive model was constructed and evaluated using a nomogram, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. Results The key variables identified by the model were tumor volume (P = 0.017), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score (P = 0.035), 95% of the minimum dose to the target volume (P = 0.028), percentage of bilateral lung volume receiving 20 Gy of radiation (P < 0.001), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (P = 0.021). The ROC curve showed that the areas under the curve (AUC) for the model in the training and validation groups were 0.987 and 0.992, respectively, indicating good predictive ability. The calibration curve and decision curve further confirmed the accuracy and clinical practicability of the model. Conclusion The predictive model proposed in this study can accurately assess the risk of developing RILI in patients with NSCLC who have undergone radiotherapy, demonstrating its potential value in clinical practice.
