1.Comparison of bioelectrical impedance analysis and dual energy X ray absorptiometry in measuring body composition among Tibetan children and adolescents
Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(4):569-573
Objective:
To compare the consistency between bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and dual energy X ray absorptiometry (DXA) in measuring body composition among Tibetan children and adolescents and to explore the applicability of BIA in plateau region, so as to provide scientific and convenient body composition measurement support among children and adolescents.
Methods:
From May to June, 2022, a total of 344 Tibetan children and adolescents aged 6-17 years were selected from Golmud Municipal National Middle School and Changjiangyuan Nationality Primary School in Qinghai Province by cluster sampling method, and their fat mass, fat mass percentage and lean mass were measured by DXA and BIA. The consistency and correlation between the two methods were assessed by using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Spearman correlation analysis, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Bland-Altman analysis.
Results:
DXA measured fat mass and fat mass percentage were significantly higher than those obtained by BIA (6-12 years old: Z =9.91, 11.28; 13-17 years old: Z =9.02, 10.21), while lean mass and lean mass percentage were significantly lower than BIA results (6-12 years old: Z =-11.60, -11.30; 13-17 years old: Z =-10.77, -10.36) (all P < 0.05 ). The two methods showed strong correlations in fat mass and lean mass (all r >0.80, all ICC >0.90), but exhibited poor agreement in fat mass percentage and lean mass percentage (6-12 years old: Lin s CCC =0.64, 0.41; 13-17 years old: Lin s CCC = 0.79 , 0.35). Bland-Altman analysis showed that the difference between the two methods was negatively correlated with the average value in FM%(6-12 years old: r =-0.75, 13-17 years old: r =-0.79, both P <0.01).
Conclusion
BIA and DXA show high consistency in measuring body fat mass and lean body mass in Tibetan children and adolescents, although some bias is still present in certain individuals.

Objective:To investigate the anatomical feasibility of the endoscopic transorbital approach (ETOA) to the orbital apex and lateral middle cranial fossa, to identify stable and recognizable surgical landmarks under endoscopic visualization, and to provide morphometric data for preoperative planning and intraoperative navigation. Methods:Stepwise anatomical dissection was performed on five formalin-fixed cadaveric heads and one fresh arterially injected cadaveric specimen to simulate the ETOA using a 0° endoscope. Key structures and their anatomical relationships were observed and recorded. Additionally, high-resolution CT scans of 50 adults were retrospectively analyzed. Three-dimensional reconstructions and measurements were performed using Mimics 17.0 software. Spatial validation was performed using 17 dry skulls to verify the consistency and reliability of osseous anatomical landmarks. Results:Cadaveric dissection identified the meningo-orbital band, superior orbital fissure, optic canal, foramen rotundum, and foramen ovale as reliable surgical landmarks for the ETOA. A topographic map of the surgical region was established based on the endoscopic view. CT measurements revealed the following distances (Mean±SD): the midpoint of the supraorbital rim to the foramen rotundum (57.31±3.59) mm and foramen ovale (71.46±3.42) mm; the lateral orbital rim to the lateral edge of the superior orbital fissure (37.38±2.52) mm; the distance from the superior orbital fissure to the optic canal (9.98±1.49) mm; and the distance from the anterior ethmoidal artery to the optic canal (19.98±2.05) mm. These measurements were consistent with dry skull data, indicating that these osseous landmarks had stable spatial relationships and were suitable for intraoperative localization. Conclusions:The ETOA provides favorable anatomical accessibility and clinical feasibility for lesions involving the orbital apex and lateral skull base. Key osseous structures demonstrate high identifiability and stable spatial relationships, serving as critical references for intraoperative navigation and preoperative pathway planning. The quantitative anatomical framework established in this study provides critical morphometric support for minimally invasive surgery targeting lesions in this region.

BACKGROUND:During the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fractures through the fibular head approach, the gap between the fibular head and the lateral plateau cannot accommodate the posterior placement of a plate for all patients.OBJECTIVE:To analyze, via finite element analysis, the differences in fixation strength resulting from varying the angles and quantities of horizontal arm variable angle screws in the plate during the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fractures through the fibular head approach.METHODS:A finite element model was established based on CT images of the knee to ankle joints of a 30-year-old healthy adult male volunteer. The models were divided into two categories:posteriorly placed group and non-posteriorly placed group based on whether the lateral locking compression plate was posteriorly placed. The posteriorly placed group was further subdivided into groups A-D based on the offset angle of the two variable angle screws(0°,5°,10°,and 15°).The non-posteriorly placed group was subdivided into groups E and F based on offset angles(0° and 15°).Finite element analysis was used to evaluate the von Mises stress distribution, maximum von Mises stress, and compressive displacement under loads of 250,500,and 750 N,exploring the mechanical differences between the groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)Finite element analysis results showed that under a 750 N load, the maximum compressive displacement trend of the internal fixation device was D<B=C=F<A<E.The trend for maximum von Mises stress was B<C<A<D<F<E.The trend for maximum compressive displacement on the bone was C=D<B<A<F<E,and for maximum von Mises stress,it was B<C<A<F<D<E.The displacement and stress trends for the six models were similar under loads ranging from 250 N to 750 N.(2)These results suggest that for posterolateral tibial plateau fractures fixed through the fibular head approach, posterior placement of the plate should aim to accommodate two screws. If only one screw can be fixed during surgery, variable angle screws should be offset in the range of 0-15° to increase the probability of securing two screws.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)and lung cancer(LC)pose a serious threat to human health, the prognosis of IPF is poor, the 5-year survival rate is low,and the incidence rate and mortality of LC are high.At present,IPF combined with LC(IPF-LC)has attracted much attention, but the pathogenesis is unclear.Epidemiology shows that, the risk of LC in IPF patients is 7 times than that of the general population, the incidence rate varies in different regions, which is related to smoking rate and diagnostic criteria. In terms of pathogenesis, chronic inflammation, angiogenesis, signaling pathways, aging, gene mutations, epithelial mesenchymal transition(EMT),and immune dysfunction are common pathogenic factors of both, and pathological changes such as smoking and pulmonary fibrosis increase the risk of LC.Thoroughly studying these mechanisms is of great significance for the early diagnosis, treatment strategy formulation, and improvement of patient prognosis of IPF-LC.
