A 65-year-old male patient was admitted for recurrent lymph node enlargement for 5 years and elevated creatinine for 6 months. This patient was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma 5 years ago and underwent multiple lines of anti-tumor therapy, including cytotoxic chemotherapy; epigenetic modifying drugs such as chidamide and azacitidine; the immunomodulator lenalidomide; and targeted therapy such as rituximab, a CD20-targeting antibody, and brentuximab vedotin, which targets CD30. Although the tumor was considered stable, multiple virus activation (including BK virus, JC virus, and cytomegalovirus) accompanied by the corresponding organ damage (polyomavirus nephropathy, cytomegalovirus retinitis, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy) occurred during anti-tumor treatment. Anti-tumor therapy was suspended and ganciclovir was used. The serum viral load decreased and organ functions were stabilized. The purpose of this report was to raise clinicians′ awareness of opportunistic virus reactivation during anti-tumor treatment.

Objective To design a wearable cardiopulmonary monitoring system and validate its performance through preliminary human trials.Methods The wearable cardiopulmonary monitoring system was composed of a data collector,a wearing vest and an information management platform.The data collector used an EFM32GG330 SCM as the main microcon-troller unit(MCU),which included a respiratory modulation module,an ECG modulation module,a body position modulation module,a wireless communication module(involving in a Bluetooth module and a Wi-Fi module),a storage module and a power management module.The wearable vest had a cardigan-type structure,and was equipped with ECG sensors and respiratory motion sensors at its inner side.The information management platform was developed with Client/Server(C/S)architecture and Java/JavaScript.The system developed was compared with Mindray's IPM10 Patient Monitor routinely used in hospitals through preliminary human trials to verify its effectiveness in monitoring human heart rate and respiratory rate.Results The system developed could continuously monitor the human heart rate and respiratory rate for a long time,and the monitoring results had high consistency with those of Mindray's IPM10 Patient Monitor.Conclusion The system can be used for medical monitoring of cardiopulmonary indicators during training or exercise,providing accurate physiological information for health management.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2024,45(4):51-55]

Objective: To explore the distribution patterns of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) in elderly patients with colorectal cancer, and provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular metabolic diseases in these patients. Methods: Clinical data of 3 894 elderly patients with colorectal cancer from January 2008 to March 2018 admitted in the Chinese PLA General Hospital were recruited and the incidence rate of CMD was retrospectively analyzed. The influence factors of elderly patients with colorectal cancer combined with CMD were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression model. Results: The morbidity rate of CMD in elderly patients with colorectal cancer is 33.4% (1 301/3 894), among them, the morbidity rate of the male was 31.9% (768/2 409), and that of the female was 35.9% (533/1 485). There was not significant difference between these two sex (P=0.074). The morbidity rates of CMD in patients of 65-74 years, 75-84 years and ≥85 years were 30.6% (754/2 462), 37.0% (479/1 294) and 49.3% (68/138), respectively, with significant differences (P<0.001). Multiple Logistic regression analysis revealed that female (OR=1.213, 95%CI: 1.056-1.394), age (75-84 years group: OR=1.344, 95%CI: 1.164-1.552; ≥85 years group: OR=2.345, 95%CI: 1.651-3.331) and body mass index (BMI 18.5-24.9 kg/m(2) group: OR=1.319, 95%CI: 1.065-1.638; ≥25 kg/m(2) group: OR=2.041, 95%CI: 1.627-2.561) were independent risk factors for elderly colorectal cancer patients with CMD. Conclusion: The morbidity rate of CMD in elderly patients with colorectal cancer increases with age and it is urgent to strengthen multidisciplinary cooperation and develop reasonable treatment plans to extend the survival and life quality of these patients.

Objective: To assess the incidence of dengue fever and E gene evolution of dengue virus in Guangzhou in 2020 and understand the local epidemiological characteristics of dengue fever and spreading of dengue virus. Methods: The information of dengue fever cases in Guangzhou in 2020 was collected from Notifiable Infectious Disease System of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention Information System. Serum samples from the cases were detected by real-time PCR. The E gene was sequenced and analyzed. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees were constructed using software MEGA 5.05. The statistical analysis was conducted using software SPSS 20.0. Results: A total of 33 dengue fever cases were reported in Guangzhou in 2020, including 31 (93.94%) imported cases and 2 (6.06%) local cases. Compared with the data during 2016 to 2019, the number of cases, overall incidence and local incidence all decreased with statistically significant differences (all P<0.05). The imported cases from Southeast Asia constituted 90.32% (28/31) of imported cases. The E gene sequences and the phylogenetic trees of imported and local cases demonstrated close relationship with the virus sequences from Southeast Asian, and they were less homologous with the sequences of dengue virus isolated in Guangzhou in previous years. Conclusions: The incidence of dengue in Guangzhou in 2020 was significantly affected by the imported cases, especially those from Southeast Asian countries. The study result demonstrated that dengue fever was not endemic in Guangzhou and it was caused by imported ones.

Objective:To investigate the postoperative changes in levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-[OH]D], parathyroid hormone (PTH) and other relevant biomarkers in obese patients receiving metabolic surgery and analyze the dynamic changes in relevant biomarkers in the short term (after 3-6 months) and the long term (after 12-24 months).Methods:A total of 96 obese patients who underwent metabolic surgery and received follow-up examinations from January 2018 to January 2020 were included. Baseline and postoperative data were collected, including anthropometric data (height, weight, neck circumference, waistline and hipline) and laboratory test results (fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin, 25-[OH)D, PTH, serum calcium and serum phosphorus). Body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio were calculated. The anthropometric data were analyzed by repeated measures analysis of variance and laboratory data were compared between groups using t test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results:96 patients (33 males and 63 females) were included, of whom 49 were complicated with diabetes. Prior to surgery, 79 (79.17%) of the patients had 25-(OH)D deficiency (< 20 μg/L), 16 (16.67%) had 25-(OH)D insufficiency (≥ 20 μg/L and < 30 μg/L) and 23 (23.96%) had high PTH levels (> 70 ng/L). After the surgery, 25-(OH)D level was transiently increased in the short term ( P = 0.01) but declined thereafter in the long term ( P < 0.01) to levels lower than baseline ( P = 0.023). Long-term PTH level was higher than baseline ( P = 0.012), with 11 patients showing PTH levels higher than normal (> 70 ng/L). Serum phosphorus level was increased in both the short term and the long term ( P < 0.01). Conclusions:Obese patients have 25-(OH)D deficiency/insufficiency before metabolic surgery and experience further decrease in the long term after surgery, despite a transient increase. Secondary increase in PTH level occurs in some of the patients after surgery. Long-term nutritional supplements and comprehensive nutritional management play important roles in postoperative management of obese patient.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Epothilone D on traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) in rats. METHODS: Forty-two SD rats were randomized to receive intraperitoneal injection of 1.0 mg/kg Epothilone D or DMSO (control) every 3 days until day 28, and rat models of TON were established on the second day after the first administration. On days 3, 7, and 28, examination of flash visual evoked potentials (FVEP), immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting were performed to examine the visual pathway features, number of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), GAP43 expression level in damaged axons, and changes of Tau and pTau-396/404 in the retina and optic nerve. RESULTS: In Epothilone D treatment group, RGC loss rate was significantly decreased by 19.12% (P=0.032) on day 3 and by 22.67% (P=0.042) on day 28 as compared with the rats in the control group, but FVEP examination failed to show physiological improvement in the visual pathway on day 28 in terms of the relative latency of N2 wave (P=0.236) and relative amplitude attenuation of P2-N2 wave (P=0.441). The total Tau content in the retina of the treatment group was significantly increased compared with that in the control group on day 3 (P < 0.001), showing a consistent change with ptau-396/404 level. In the optic nerve axons, the total Tau level in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group on day 7 (P=0.002), but the changes of the total Tau and pTau-396/404 level did not show an obvious correlation. Epothilone D induced persistent expression of GAP43 in the damaged axons, detectable even on day 28 of the experiment. CONCLUSION Epothilone D treatment can protect against TON in rats by promoting the survival of injured RGCs, enhancing Tau content in the surviving RGCs, reducing Tau accumulation in injured axons, and stimulating sustained regeneration of axons.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to investigate the effect of the regulator of G-protein signaling 2 (RGS2) on the proliferation and invasion of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells and its potential molecular mechanism. Metho⁃ds The expression status and clinical significance of RGS2 in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas and matched adjacent normal tissues were evaluated using TCGA database. Three OSCC cell lines (i.e., SCC-9, Cal27, and Fadu) were overexpressed with RGS2, and the effect of RGS2 on cell proliferation and invasion was determined using the Transwell, clone formation, and cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assays. Moreover, the yeast two-hybrid scree-ning and co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) assays were conducted to detect the correlation of RGS2, four and a half LIM domains protein 1 (FHL1), and damage DNA-binding protein 1 (DDB1). RESULTS: The expression level of RGS2 in OSCC was significantly lower than that in matched adjacent normal tissues ( CONCLUSIONS RGS2 plays an important role in the inhibition of OSCC proliferation and invasion. The structure stability of RGS2 is competitively regulated by FHL1 and DDB1.

The study aims to qualitatively analyze the chemical composition of compound Nanxing acesodyne plaster by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry( UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS). The analysis was performed on Agilent Zorbax SB-C_(18)( 4. 6 mm×250 mm,5 μm) column. The mobile phase consisted of methanol and 0. 2% formic acid-water was used as gradient elution. The flow rate was 1 mL·min~(-1) and column temperature was 30 ℃. The Mass spectrometry was acquired in both positive and negative ion modes using ESI. The components were identified by the precise mass-to-charge ratio,secondary fragmentation and other information combined with reference substance and literature data. As a result,58 compounds were identified and predicted,including alkaloids,flavonoids,coumarins,organic acids and lactone compounds,of which 12 compounds were verified by the reference substances. The results provide reference for the quality control of compound Nanxing acesodyne plaster,and lay the foundation for elucidating the active components mechanism.
