Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(10):1401-1405
Objective:
To investigate the impact of milk and egg supplementation on body composition and bone mineral density of rural primary school students in Yunnan Province, so as to provide a reference for developing targeted nutritional intervention strategies.
Methods:
In December 2023, a cluster sampling method was adopted to select students from grades one to three in four primary schools each from Jinggu and Shidian countys of Yunnan Province, as the intervention group (662 students). Additionally, two boarding primary schools were selected from each county based on the principle of matching scale and student numbers as the control group (455 students). Starting from April 2023, the intervention group received 200 mL milk and 50 g eggs during the break on school days for 8 months, while the control group maintained their usual diet behavior. Body composition was measured by using bioelectrical impedance analysis, and distal radial bone mineral density was assessed via dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in April and December 2023. The intervention effects were analyzed by using a difference in-differences approach.
Results:
The final measurements of body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass and fat free mass of the intervention group and the control group of primary school students were significantly higher than the baseline values, and the net effect of milk and egg intervention on these body composition indicators was not statistically significant ( P >0.05, both before and after adjustment). In contrast, bone mineral density increased significantly by 0.02 g/cm 2 in the intervention group. The net intervention effect on bone mineral density was statistically significant ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04), and remained significant after model adjustment ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04) (both P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed statistically significant effects of the intervention among girls ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04), day students ( β=0.04, 95%CI =0.01-0.07), and students with normal nutritional status ( β=0.02, 95%CI =0.00-0.04) (all P <0.05). No significant effect of milk and egg supplementation was observed on body composition indicators (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Milk and egg supplementation can improve bone mineral density among rural primary school students in Yunnan Province. It is recommended that rural school aged children should increase intake of milk and eggs to support growth and development.

Objective:To analyze the current status and trends of lung cancer incidence and mortality in China and selected global regions, providing evidence for lung cancer prevention strategies in China. Methods:We extracted data from the GLOBOCAN 2022 database. Age-standardized Incidence rate (ASIR) and Age-standardized Mortality rate (ASMR) were calculated using Segi's world standard population. Epidemiological patterns were analyzed by region, age, sex, and human development index (HDI). Simple linear regression and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were used to examine associations between HDI and ASIR/ASMR.Results:In 2022, global lung cancer incidence and mortality reached 2.48 million and 1.82 million cases respectively, with age-standardized rates of 23.6 per 100 000 (ASIR) and 16.8 per 100 000 (ASMR). Gender disparities were prominent, with male ASIR and ASMR being 2.0-fold and 2.5-fold higher than females. Elderly populations showed 11.6-fold higher ASIR and 14.4-fold higher ASMR compared to working-age adults. HDI demonstrated strong positive correlations with both ASIR ( r=0.79, P<0.001) and ASMR ( r=0.74, P<0.001). China accounted for 1.06 million new cases and 0.73 million deaths, with ASIR (40.8 per 100 000) and ASMR (26.7 per 100 000) exceeding global averages by 1.7-fold and 1.6-fold respectively. Chinese males showed 1.7-fold higher ASIR and 2.7-fold higher ASMR than females. Trend analysis revealed persistently high male incidence in China whereas rapidly increasing female rates, narrowing gender disparities. Projections estimate 1.80 million incident cases and 1.41 million deaths by 2050, representing 69.3% and 92.0% increases from 2022 levels. Conclusions:Significant heterogeneity exists in lung cancer burden across demographics and development levels, with strong HDI correlations. China bears disproportionate disease burden, necessitating intensified prevention efforts. These findings underscore the urgency of targeted interventions in high-risk populations.

Objective:To analyze the epidemiological patterns and temporal trends of gastric cancer incidence and mortality in China and globally, and to formulate evidence-based prevention strategies. Methods:Based on the GLOBOCAN 2022 database, we evaluated gastric cancer incidence and mortality patterns stratified by sex, age group, geographic region and human development index (HDI). Simple linear regression and Spearman's correlation analysis assessed associations between HDI and age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) or age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR). Temporal trends from 2002 to 2020 were described in selected regions, and projections of global gastric cancer burden by 2050 were estimated. Results:In 2022, there were estimated 969 000 new gastric cases and 660 000 deaths worldwide. The burden was higher in men than in women, with incidence peaking at ages 65-69 and mortality at 70-74. ASIR was weakly correlated with HDI ( r=0.261, P<0.001), while no significant association was found between HDI and ASMR ( r=-0.005, P=0.947). China accounted for 359 000 new cases and 260 000 deaths, representing 37.0% and 39.4% of the global totals, respectively. Both ASIR (13.7/10 5) and ASMR (9.4/10 5) in China exceeded the global averages (9.2/10 5 and 6.1/10 5, respectively). Although the overall global burden is decreasing, absolute case numbers are projected to increase by 84.1% (1.78 million cases) and deaths by 91.2% (1.26 million cases) by 2050. High-HDI regions will bear greater absolute burdens, whereas low-HDI regions face steeper relative increases. In China, new cases and deaths are projected to reach 607 000 and 504 000 by 2050, rising by 69.1% and 93.8%, respectively. Conclusions:Despite a declining global trend, the burden of gastric cancer remains substantial, with notable disparities across regions, sex and age groups. Targeted strategies are urgently needed, particularly in East Asia, among males, and older populations, to mitigate the future burden.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2023;44(3):348-352
Objective:
To explore the effectiveness of healthy school canteen intervention on nutritional literacy, food consumption, as well as attitude towards school canteen.
Methods:
A primary school in Taizhou City was selected as the intervention school, and another comparable primary school was selected as the control one. A total of 320 students (163 in the intervention group and 157 in the control group) received a comprehensive intervention based on the construction of a healthy school canteen in the school, incluling healthy dining environment, food impravement, chef training, nutrition and health education, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Questionnaires survey was administered to both groups before and after the intervention.
Results:
Before the intervention, no significant differences were found in the total scores of skills and nutrition literacy, frequency of food intake, behaviors and attitudes related to canteen construction between the two groups( P >0.05). Daily intake of vegetables, dairy products, fish/poultry/eggs/lean meat increased by 19.63, 15.95 and 19.63 percentage point respectively ( χ 2=15.25,9.14,13.93, P <0.01). The proportion of students reporting have read related intervention materials in the intervention group(95.71%) was higher than the control group(84.71%) ( χ 2= 11.04, P < 0.01 ). The students in favor of low salt, low oil and low sugar dishes in the intervention group (74.85%) was higher than in the control group(48.41%) ( χ 2=23.73, P <0.01).
Conclusion
Based on the comprehensive intervention of nutrition and health canteens can improve students nutrition literacy and dietary structure. It is recommended to adopt the form of "home school linkage" to carry out the construction of large sample, multi regional and long term nutrition and health canteens.

Objective:To investigate the effects and regulation mechanism of lipid-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs) derived from Mycoplasma pneumoniae( Mp) on the expression of quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1) in human monocyte cell line THP-1 cells, and to know the effect of NQO-1 to interleukin 8 secretion in LAMPs stimulated cells, so as to better understand the regulation mechanism upon Mp infection. Methods:Mp were cultivated and the precipitate was collected to extract LAMPs. The cytotoxicity of LAMPs to THP-1 cells was analyzed by using CCK8 test. THP-1 cells were cultured in vitro with different concentrations of LAMPs for different times, and the expression of NQO-1 protein was detected by Western blot. Nrf2 siRNA was used to investigate the role of Nrf2 in NQO-1 expression in LAMPs induced cells, and NQO-1 inhibitor Diminutol was performed to test whether they blocked interleukin 8 (IL-8) secretion when treated with LAMPs in THP-1 cells. Results:LAMPs extracted from Mp had no cytotoxicity to THP-1 cells. The expression of NQO-1 protein in LAMPs-stimulated THP-1 cells showed a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. The production of NQO-1 protein reached peaks when treated with 5.0 μg/ml or 7.5 μg/ml of LAMPs for 12 h. Silencing of Nrf2 by siRNA significantly decreased NQO-1 production, and blocking NQO-1 by Dim increased the level of IL-8 in LAMPs-stimulated cells. Conclusions:LAMPs derived from Mp induced the expression of NQO-1 protein in THP-1 cells via Nrf2, and NQO-1 can inhibit IL-8 secretion in LAMPs stimulated monocytes.
